Next Season

Post by DWB »

So, as gutted as I am not to gain promotion this season I am truly proud of the players and we now need to turn to next. I hope the majority, if not all of the players stay with us. Not sure who will still be on a contract but we need to build on what we have achieved this season. I feel for the players who have given their all and hope for a ‘normal’ season to come. Maybe we can add a few more players to our squad ( not sure what happened to Liam Davis and others who haven’t featured this season). It will be tough as there are some big teams left in this league (Stockport, Notts County and Wrexham to name a few). Really please that Gary Johnson has signed a new contract and I for one will buy a season ticket again and hope to go one step further next year COYY

I think that the whole club, from the board of directors to the tea lady, should be immensely proud of this season's efforts.

As a layperson, if this season's squad remains intact - unlikely I admit - I feel that there need to be at least six quality additions, including a top notch 'keeper (no disrepect to the current duo), a young left back, another attacking midfielder and two strikers capable of scoring 15-20 goals each. A tall order I admit, but I have faith that Gary Johnson will recruit well.

I think another physio should be high on the wish list. Overworked this year!

Can't wait for the new season to start! I think the big lesson to learn from the last campaign is that we have to scrap for every possible point. We let too many easy points go at home that would have put us over the line as Champions. 20/20 hindsight maybe, but true nonetheless.

Would I take a playoff spot if offered? Yep!

Undoubtedly, in the coming weeks the forum will be full of rumours and people just making things up to see if they can get a rise out of anyone. We will undoubtedly lose players to bigger wage offers, the odd retirement and several who have just not made the grade, that is the circle of football. I imagine Johnson would not have signed a contract extension if there wasn't a reasonable budget available and I am sure that he already has made contact with a few likely candidates. Our starting eleven were a match for any in this league but due to the reasons we all know about it happened too rarely, if we fell short anywhere it was the lack of quality on the bench.

I'm saying this now: if the club offers streaming 'free' to season ticket holders next season, I will buy one. Even though I'm 3,000 miles away.

I hope they will continue with the streaming offer next season as well. Would be great for us that are not able to attend the matches.

I am not quite sure who is on a contract with us but I think I am right in saying that any contract there is is for next season as well, so if any player wants to leave it would have to be for a fee?
I would guess that all these discussions will have been done, or are being held now. Hopefully Clarke Osborne has given Gary a good sized budget to go and get some useful additions. Over to you then Pete!!

Trying to think of positives for next season.
Players likely to be here - Joe Lewis , what a performance Sunday. Kyle Cameron, Ben Wynter, think Danny will be ok if he stays clear of injuries, and we could get another year out of Asa, after all last season was his best ever for us. Aaron Nemane back on the right, Little who showed signs of a return to form , hope Lucas stays , Gary has been proved right over him when some fans were saying he is not good enough, he has improved massively, great on crosses, great shot stopper and scores goals ! What a keeper. Whitfield doubtful I guess, I would keep Waters and Andrews, wonder what will happen with Nelson don't expect to see him again though. Moxey, Warren and Umerah will no doubt leave. Buse ? Will Koszela feature more or will he always be one for the future when he's say 28 ?
Too much to ask for another season like this with us clear at the top but we should make top seven. Then we'd have to go through this play off pantomime again . Oh Christ !

Our forward line needs a refresh

I would release Umerah, waters, Nelson

Certainly need cover out wide too regardless of whether we resign Nemane

We ended up playing a huge amount of the season with a CM wide right, and a midfielder up front!

I would like to think that the players who have been out for a large chunk of the season (Danny Wright, Aron Nemane, Ben Whitfield) and others owe us one more season at least!!! But probably being nieve in thinking that?
Would love CLE and Jake Andrews to stay, please!!
That is the difference between getting promoted and not. If we had gone up I am sure all those players would definitely stay and it would be slightly easier to attract other players as well.
