Precisely this. He knew what he was doing and ignored previous warnings. As for being harsh, I think 7 days is a little lenient given his previous history.

Bit harsh in my view, why single Matt out for defending his original post. Would love to add more on the subject however it's not the time or place.

Can we start a "free Ferrarilover and Brucie" thread" ? ;-)

I refer the right honourable gentleman back to my original post as he seems confused ;-)

Start whatever thread you wish as long as it's put on the correct forum :)

I've had my disagreements in the past with Matt over things he has posted, and others have criticised (unjustly, of course) some of my own posts. However, whilst I must accept that his Lordship's judgement is final, there being no right of appeal, I do feel that Matt has been unjustly treated in this particular case, not in the sentence handed down (I am not acquainted with the nature and extent of any previous transgressions, so I cannot discuss the appropriateness of the punishment) but in the actual finding of 'guilt'.

Matt said: 'He slotted straight into a decent side and worked especially well with the other black guys.' There is nothing intrinsically 'racist' in that sentence, nor in the context in which it was written. Matt has been found 'guilty', not because of something he said, but because a guess was made as to what he was thinking and intending at the time.

A guess is not evidence. Neither is guilt something to be guessed at. If people are going to be found guilty, whether in a court, at a tribunal, or on an internet forum, on such a basis, then the outlook for justice is grim..

He's not been banned for being racist.

If you read the thread properly and note exactly what Dave has said, you would realise this (paying particular attention to the one made at 6:07 today (04/08/2014))

No, he's been banned for turning this from a thread about football into a thread about racism. It doesn't seem to matter that it was, in fact, Hector who turned it into a thread about racism, it seems that Matt must be banned because he dared to type the word "black", which is not allowed anymore. That in itself is a damning indictment of the sad state of affairs which now exists in this Godforsaken country.

And I've looked for a post made at 6.07 on 4 August. There isn't one.. :-/

Oh you mean the 6.17 post. But I already responded to this - see my earlier post..

It's back a page, 4 posts up from the bottom, time listed could be either 05.17 or 06.17 depending on your settings.

I believe I've already dealt with this - see my earlier posts.

Pea is correct. It was not Matt who turned this into a thread about racism. And there is nothing upon which you can base your assumption as to what Matt was thinking and intending.

I remember the days when Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole made a great combination at Man Utd. A big thing was made of the fact that they were a black pairing who got on well with each other and seemed to have had some sort of psychic link. Of course, that wasn't considered racist, mainly because it wasn't actually racist. I'm fairly sure nobody got banned from a forum for pointing it out either.

I can't say too much on Matt's previous transgressions, as I normally tend to see things after he's been banned and the post has been deleted, but I think in this case the punishment is incredibly harsh. There are many members of this forum who purposefully post things to get a response, and don't get banned for it. What did Matt do that was so different, assuming his intention was actually to take part in some angling?

that doesnt make that right either.

however i think we are discussing torquayfans.com here and in this case the admin team have decided to do what they have done.

Matt hasn't been banned and if you read my posts carefully there should be no need for any further explanation. If you can't read properly that's not any fault of mine. As for Gullscorers juvenile attempt to insult me I'll refer him to his response to Emet recently when he felt insulted ;-)

Matt has my number and can call me anytime he wishes. We've done this subject to death already though and his post was not only deliberate but got him exactly what he wanted, it just happened to be hector who fell for it this time.

I've not accused Matt of being racist or using racist language .......

If Matt's not banned, there's something wrong with his account which needs mod attention, because he can't log in.

If anyone is confused why Matt has had 7 days to reflect upon, read Dave's original post again.
Southampton Gull wrote:Matt knew exactly what he was doing and got exactly what he wanted turning a matchday thread into a thread on racism.

I've made it clear on plenty of previous occasions that it isn't what we want to be discussing on a football related topic so he can have 7 days to reflect upon his deliberate actions as well.

It was quite clear that Matt didn't say anything racist, but the reason for the reflection was that he "knew exactly what he was doing and got exactly what he wanted turning a matchday thread into a thread on racism." I don't know if that was the case, but that was the judgement of the Admin team and the action of 7 days to reflect upon his deliberate actions has been taken place.

Hector should take a self imposed 7 day ban for reacting to ferrari's provocation. I think 7 days is an appropriate black listing for this type of offence.

Oh , well done Torquay, good result!
