Walking past what I know as Boots and Laces towards the Popular Side turnstiles yesterday, I was delighted to pass a familiar figure. Yes, it was none other than 'One Can Lasher', the greatest Gilbert ever produced by the club.
Naturally I asked him if he would be interested in taking the job again, as - as is well-known here - the subsequent Gilberts have been pale shadows of this great original. I was surprised to find that he was very keen indeed on the idea, but it was impossible owing to his work at McDonalds in Newton Abbot.
Mr Candy! Here is something for you to look into. This was our greatest ever Gilbert in terms of enthusiasm, fun, laughter, involvement of the crowd; in fact fulfilling every demand that is made upon a club mascot. This man (whose real name I don't know) should be made an offer of employment by the club. 'One Can Lasher' (I'm afraid the significance of the name escapes me) is probably well-known to many readers - and he wants the job!
We could have a mascot at away games too (something that 'One Can Lasher' enjoyed doing) and the profile of the club - both with seniors and juniors - could be enhanced.
Give us our Gilbert back!

He was indeed excellent. I remember him from my younger days when stood in the middle of the pop (we used to make a damn site more noise, and were a lot more imaginative than the current "fanatics").
I fondly remember him taking a banner on to the pitch which read something along the lines of "Sing your hearts out for the lads" he then turned it round and it said on the other side "or I'll sh*t on your cars". Brilliant. Get him back I say!

Used to stand there too, some fond memories.... Singing Don Oriordon's yellow army for an entire half, Hells Bells guest appearing on the drums, feet not touching the floor against Scarborough in the play offs, happy days!Kernowgull wrote:He was indeed excellent. Didn't need a silly name either(!) we all just turned up and sang.
Correct me if i'm wrong but if memory serves one can lasher is aka Bruce.
Yes, the one can lasher.Know the lad well and we do speak every now and again, He is aware of this thread , your man love has made him feel all warm inside..
Can't speak for the lad, however judging on what he has said to me in the past, doubt very much you will see him back as gilbert, his job is just one of a few reasons why not.
