A few managerial stats to ponder
Here are some stats/opinions based on what I have seen:
We have 1 good central midfielder (Lathrope) and 1 good striker (Yeoman). Alan Knill sent them both on loan. Good one Alan.

TorquayFans.com Q&A: Eunan O'Kane
Fantastic feature Nick, thanks for taking the time to do this. For Eunan:
You put in a superb individual performance in the 3-1 win at home to Plymouth. Was there an increased sense of excitement and motivation in the dressing room before the games against Argyle that season? Did Martin do anything different in the build up, or were they treated as just another Two games?

Re: Torquay United v York City - 5/10/13
I don't think sacking Knill will help us right now (even though I didn't want him in the 1st place). We did alright in our previous 2 games, even if the result in Newport was bad. Today's result is poor but having a new loan signing at CB with TC can't have helped. Give Alan the opportunity to turn things around in the next few games.

Harding injured? Off for Damon after 42 minutes.

Re: The Bookies Odds Thread
Fleetwood have a quality squad but they were pony after they sacked Mellon. I just think the board might sabotage another campaign with a rash sacking.

Usually, every team will be 18/1. The fair price is 23/1 but you can still find some value sometimes, such as Yeovil +28 last season. If you want to back Torquay for the craic, this is a good market because I don't think we'll go up but we could exceed our lowly expectations.
In other news, I think Chesterfield have signed well this summer, adding League One standard players to an already solid team. I've backed them to win the league and Eoin Doyle top scorer (seperate bets). Benyon is 150/1.. a good price if we see his 2010 form.
Also backed Derby and Bradford to get promoted.

According to the some journalist on twitter (https://x.com/gchase1), Knilly is at the Man Utd v Liverpool U21s game, no doubt watching one of Liverpool's many England U21 internationals.

Re: How times change
Was looking at those tables and how about this for a stat:
This season was Barnet's highest points tally in the last 5 seasons.

Re: Our next manager
It's a good point, compensation for gaffers seems quite cheap when compared to transfer fees for players and it would be shrewd business to get someone like Steve Burr in who worked wonders at Northwich and can count himself very unfortunate not to have been promoted this season. However, with our financial policy, it hadn't even crossed my mind that we would pay compensation for a manager.

Re: The Bookies Odds Thread
That's a tough one to take, especially when the less likely one came in. Had a late back of Real Madrid to qualify at 95 tonight, thought Diego Lopez was gonna make me some money at the end there.
Skybet and BetVictor have outrights up for League 2 next season: http://www.oddschecker.com/football/eng ... son-winner
Obviously it depends on signings and how the playoffs go but it's a good indicator of where the bookies have everyone finishing. I think Rochdale and Mansfield will be exceed expectations and relegated sides Hartlepool and Scunthorpe will under achieve. They've got us as relegation candidates which is fair enough but i'd have us finishing 14th.

Retain: Saah, Downes, Cruise, Howe, Jarvis, Yeoman
I considered Rice, Oastler and Morris but I just think there are better players out there.
Wishlist: Amankwaah, McDonald, Benyon.

Re: Our next manager
I'd imagine that if Adkins was mentioned, it was only in jest. I think Warnock is unlikely but plausible if Plymouth weren't interested. If it did happen, then Keith Curle would be a good man to come in as 'Head Coach'. They've worked together at Palace and QPR, where Curle was highly respected as a coach. His early management career wasn't great but he was doing a reasonable job at Notts County, working under a certain DOF.
My choice would be John Coleman but as mentioned above, he's surely heading back to Accrington. There aren't many other decent options about.. Gary Waddock would be ok but Knill's might be our best option.

Re: The Bookies Odds Thread
Yeah, I'll give you that one. I'm just in favour of keeping betting separate from my support of Torquay. Lets hope that everyone's relegation bet is a loser and I can spend my Aldershot winnings on a night of celebration. Incidentally, Powers have gone in to 80/1 but Coral are standing firm at 100s.
With regards to Fleetwood, the bet is even better value when you consider that if it's level with 5 minutes left, Wimbledon will throw Neil Sullivan and his kitchen sink forward in search of a winner, paving the way for a Torres v Barcelona style winner.
