How times change

Post by hector »

When we lost out to Colchester in the play-off final of 1997/98 season the bottom five of (what is now) League 2 makes interesting reading.

20th - Cardiff 50pts
21st - Swansea 50 pts
22nd - Hull 41 pts
23rd - Brighton 35 pts
24th - Doncaster 20 pts

Four of that five could be in the Premiership next season, while the 5th have just been promoted to the Championship for the 2nd time since then.

Incidentally, we, with Rodney Jack et al, finished 5th on 74 pts.

I also remember us playing against Fulham and Wigan either in that same season or the season prior.

Biggest shock is Barnet. Have they ever been that high in L2?

They had a couple of seasons in the division above when Barry Fry was there.

Was looking at those tables and how about this for a stat:

This season was Barnet's highest points tally in the last 5 seasons.

Paraphrasing the words of John Donne, no club is an island, sufficient unto itself: one club's demise diminishes us all... therefore, ask not for whom the whistle blows, it blows for thee...
