Gilbertissimus!

At long last our dearly beloved feathered friend is awakening from his slumbers. Years of 'aimless wandering' [the apt description by another contributor] around the periphery of the pitch for a quarter of an hour before the game now seem to be a memory for, mirabile dictu - and mirabile visu - he is now performing and, at last, realising that his raison d'etre is to entertain the masses. So 'The Bird's the Word' will be danced to again: excellent. I have also suggested to Mr. Candy that, if and when we score, the announcer plays 'Bird's the Word' and GILBERT rushes on to the field and celebrates wildly. This is hardly a new idea, but it is for Plainmoor, and as accompaniment to 'Bird's the Word'. Go GILBERT the Great!

Score a goal and Gilbert runs on to that song?
What a crap, tacky idea, worse than just goal music!

I am lost for words at this strange suggestion. Surely he won't be allowed on the pitch, that would not be permitted by the referee?

lets be sensible and just stick to him doing bird is the word at 10 to 3.

dont wanna push our luck. im chuffed enough with that.
he just needs to watch the video clip and get the dance right this time and it will be really good. 10 to 3 is better because the pop will be a bit more full.

p.s where has it said he is actually going to do it again?

just read it. thats made my day! i do like the way the article is worded.
its good that we can add a bit of fun to proceedings and our mascot now has something to do and can at least get involved and try to get whip up some atmosphere.

Perhaps Mr. Candy can employ someone to play Brian (suggestions please) and then the dance will be complete.

Having a passionate and eccentric Gilbert prominent at matches is just amazing. I'm sure the kids love him and I do too. Well done!!

Ah! Happiness and peace. Among the absolute wretchedness of yesterday was a light in the darkness. Yes, GILBERT did his thing, in the middle of the pitch, to the applause and delight of (most of) the fans. It was the only fun element of an afternoon of the deepest darkness and gloom. We're going down - of course we are (everyone subconsciously recognises this fact) - but we can go down smiling (and don't forget once down we're down for ever) with GILBERT among us. Keep him on, Mr. Candy! Give him a rise! Allow him the freedom of the park! Fit him out with a parachute and a personal jet engine! Let him explode and rise again from the dead! Oh, save us, GILBERT, from the wretchedness and misery of the football we endure!

Yes, good; calling the dance 'The GILBERT' is great!

More GILBERT (in his new guise) tomorrow, please; after all, that's the only thing we'll have to cheer us up.

As Mr. Chunkygull says, it is very tempting. However, at 71, I'm probably a bit too old for it. Send for OneCanLasher! He's the only one who can save us now!
