First film I remember seeing at the Pictures (aye,that's what we called the cinema back in the day) was Bambi.

When Bambi's mum got shot and died I cried and cried and cried. I was only 5, Ive got the tissue out now just thinking about it.

My little brother (he's not so little now, he towers above me) fell asleep so was spared the agony. Mum had to carry him home still fast asleep with me still crying me eyes out and clinging on to Mum for dear life hoping she wouldn't get shot aswell.

Is that in this day and age classed as child cruelty ? Can retrospective justice be applied ?

I remember seeing that on a family holiday at Butlins in Minehead, was about the same age and it had the same affect on me, spoiled my holiday and gave me nightmares for weeks :Oops:

But it was a long time ago and my Mum couldn't work out why her independent little boy suddenly became clingy. When asked what was wrong I said nothing.

This became a repetitive theme all the way through childhood . . .

"What's up ?"

"Nothing."

"Where have you been ?"

"No where."

"Who have you been with ?"

"No one."

The good thing is we weren't allowed to have air guns, especially after my little brother got shot by someone after he put his whole body above the wall we were hiding behind. He was 6 at the time and I was worldly wise 8. And there's me having nightmares about my Mum dying from projectile wounds when it was little Bruv who stopped one. He didn't cry for ages and ages, that was until he thumbed the sore red spot on his stomach. I thought my Dad is gonna kill that ca hunt with the rifle. When Mum saw the flesh wound I thought she'll kill the ca hunt first and there won't be anything left for Dad to kill.

If Bruv hadn't fallen asleep during Bambi he'd have been worldly wise at 6. He was unbearable for ages after that, strutting about the house infront of our older brothers and sister proudly pointing to the spot. It didn't stop there, the playground and schoolyard aswell.

If anyone has a pop at Bruv now, he just laughs and says been there, done it and got the hole in the T shirt to prove it.

Just watched a film and want to watch it again straight away, it was soooooo brilliant. Dead Man's Shoes. If you haven't seen it, try it - not one of my usual weepie, girly films

Mind you, might now dig out In Her Shoes which couldn't really be more different to Dead Man's...

Another one of my all time favourite films, seen not long after Bruv got shot. We played this one out in the playground of Ellacombe School and Ellacombe Green for ages after seeing it.

We had difficulty finding enough Zulus to play the role as everyone wanted to be behind the barricade(especially Bruv) or part of the flying platoon . . .

Love the RSM in that film, so typically English, even if it was supposed to be the Welsh Guards

Not everything in the film Zulu is historically accurate.

The 24th Regiment at the time were the Warwickshires with a boot camp in Brecon.

Private Alfred Henry Hook (Victoria Cross) was not a malingerer but a real hero in every sense of the word.

Private Fred Hitch (Victoria Cross) didn't get shot in the leg, he had his shoulder near on shattered by a bullet.

Colour Sergeant Frank Bourne (DCM) was the last defender of Rorke's Drift to die and died on VE Day, 8th of May, 1945.

Ironic or what ?

Hard to believe I know, but I have never seen the film Zulu - obviously heard lots about it, and know the general background behind it etc etc, but never actually seen it!!

All I can say is you're in for a treat. Superb film.

My favourite is Rear Window. Most films with James Stewart in were fantastic, he was an acting genius.
And I haven't seen Zulu either.

Inspector 2211. Significant ? It is when one realises JFK was assassinated on the 22nd of November (1963).

That's JFK the President, not the other JFK (Janitor Freddy Krueger).

As the motorcade turned in to Elm Street, the rest as they say is history.
