[OS] REPORT: United 2 – 0 Eastbourne

Post by TorquayFans.com »

United 2 (Dreyer 86′, Mussa 90+6′) Eastbourne 0   Two late goals sealed an important win for The Gulls, as they emerged as 2-0 winners over Eastbourne at Plainmoor. Sam Dreyer’s goal gave United a late lead, and when Omar Mussa added a second in injury-time, it some became apparent that the three points would be staying at Plainmoor. Boss Paul Wotton made three changes to the starting eleven that went down 1-0 at Maidstone last weekend, with Lirak Hasani, Matt Carson and Ed Palmer replacing Oscar Threlkeld, Jordan Dyer and Mussa. The first half was something of  slow burner until United sprung into life just before the break, as a neat passing move ended with Hasani picking up on a pass on the edge of the box before forcing visiting goalkeeper Joe Wright into a fine low save down to his left. Although The Sports had enjoyed plenty of possession themselves, they struggled to create any clear-cut chances, making it goalless at the break. Image Following the restart, there was an increase in urgency to find the opener, even if the openings still weren’t flowing freely. James Hamon had to make one fine close-range save to deny Jason Adigun on 68 minutes, however, as the game entered its final quarter, it was Wotton’s men who looked to be finishing the stronger. As the game entered its final stages, it looked as though the match would end in stalemate, until a late two-goal burst saw them home. First, Mussa’s turned provider as his corner found Dreyer inside a packed goalmouth, with his deflected effort creeping over the line before goalkeeper Joe Wright could reach the ball in the 86th minute. The clincher followed ten minutes later, when in the final of the six allotted minutes, Mussa’s late charge up field saw him slot calmly past Wright to double his side’s advantage, and seal a hard-earned, but very important three points for Wotton’s men.
