Learn more from a loss, wasn’t there tonight but some players would of stood out more than most. A 1-1 draw would of looked good but a 5-0 loss will hopefully prove to be a positive in the future. Hopefully a better result against the scum.

Couldn’t get to the game tonight sadly but very disappointed that we have mindless dimwits booing. Obviously clueless and brave after their 2 pints.

It was always going to be a tough game - I’m a little surprised at the scoreline nonetheless

Argyle looked two divisions above us to be fair

I saw enough tonight to not be worried about this season. Got some decent players starting to gel.

It's tough having so many new players, but there is definitely a decent team in there. Looking forward to the season.

Did not hear any booing. In fact there was excellent support for the team throughout. We were well beaten by a very good and skillfull Argyle team who will be pushing for promotion IMHO. Adam Rendell was fantastic and ran the midfield for them but their wingers ran our defence ragged. We kept going right to the end and nearly managed a consolation goal. There are positive signs but this was definitely a wake up call - there is still much work to be done.

We are playing Plymouth not Barcelona.

Fair enough its a friendly but 5-0? thats a hammering. Not sure what positives you can draw from that. Our goalkeeper who couldn't keep the ball out of his net last season has started off in the same manner shipping another 5 tonight, and kept being beaten from distance by the sound of it.

Seems like Plymouth felt sorry for us and brought on their entire under 13 side in the second half. To be honest its not great.

It's a friendly against a team two divisions above, who were *very* competitive last season, and who are one week further into their pre-season. Obviously, five goals is less than ideal, but anybody who thought we were going to do anything but lose is probably living in cloud cuckoo land.

4 pre-season games so far. We've beaten the two teams from divisions below us, drawn against a side in the division we aspire to be in, and got beaten (ok, hammered) by a very decent side further along in their pre-season. I would also expect to lose against Exeter on Saturday too, although it'd be nice to be a bit closer, obviously.

Im not particularly worried about things as they stand, although reports of Halstead's fallibility on the last 2 goals today might be cause for minor concern.

The test is Oldham on August 6th. What we're presumably trying to do now is get the last bits of fitness and try to get the team properly acquainted with each other.

Totally unfair to blame Halstead. He was left exposed by a defence which was repeatedly torn apart and, in fact, made several really good saves to keep the score down to 5.

As for who brought on more youngsters in the second half it was us - I actually remarked at half time on the disparity in age and experience between the two groups of 'subs'.

Going home after a five nil lesson in how to play football you may be forgiven for thinking I would be annoyed and down,far from it, I had just seen a very good game and the many differences between us and Plymouth show why they are in division 1 and we aren't. There are many positives to take from last night and many lessons will be learnt, Plymouth midfield ran the show and their wingers turned our back line inside out. We could have had a couple on any other day. Halstead may have been at fault with one goal but any keeper would have been hard pushed to keep out the remainder. Goodwin seems a good acquisition and he has pace something we lacked last season, looking forward to saturday.

Did not see that coming ! A right thumping, which will not help confidence. I appreciate Argyle are League 1 and a good footballing side who gave us a football lesson. Our midfield backing off and giving their number 10 the freedom of the park before scoring was embarrassing.
Also massive ???? over Halstead again , many turning on him after goal number 5......... Big 2 weeks before Oldham for the Gaffer to put it right, and I have every confidence he will.

Not the case at all Brucie! Of the 8 subs they brought on after 70 minutes, SIX of them featured regularly for them in League One last season. Just shows the strength in depth of their squad though

I appreciate they didnt bring on any schoolkids but on the other hand they didn't start with their first eleven last night either.

Lets get real - their centre half who started for them was playing for Plymouth Parkway last season. As has been reported one of their earlier goals was scored by someone picking the ball up in his own half and running straight through the middle of the park - that sounds pretty poor.

As for the "last bits of fitness" well does that apply to the old crocks like Hall and Lapslie?
