I remember that day in Manchester. My beloved Gulls playing at Old Trafford. Only they didn't play did they? Buckle clearly didn't give a shit, in fact it was in his interests to make sure we didn't go up or he was going to look extremely foolish to step down a league (how many "ambitious" managers do that?) to take over the job he'd already committed himself to. The front to sit there in interviews and say he had a tough decision to make, he needed time to make the right one for himself. The cock.
