advertising
programme printing (scrapped or reused for rearranged fixture)
food bought in (maybe incurred by the contractor)
ticket printing
staff wages (stewards etc, do they have to be paid still?)
the cost of attempting to drain the pitch

The major cost, one would guess, is that of paying the players. Game or not, they still get paid and I would imagine that it is their wages that are the biggest cost to the club.
Given the last match at Plainmoor was over a month ago, that's four - five weeks worth of expenses, with zero (or very little) income. Can't be good for any club, least of all one like ours!!

I wouldn't cancel anything to attend this match, there's almost no chance of it being on. Our staff are good, but they're not miracle workers.

Heavy rain forecast nearly all day today, again. Will be amazed if this is on.

Does add some more fuel to the argument in favour of the new artificial pitches.

There is more chance of bowling a perfect 300 game with a satsuma than there is of this game being on.

So frustrating - just cannot get any momentum going.

Director's might have to make loans to club to avoid cash-flow problems caused by postponements.

Yep saw that article and was going to paste it on here, I am no accountant, but had a feeling what's outlined on this article would be the case, also found it interesting how the clubs hands are tied regards early postponements, especially as the away club in the event of a postponement are entitled to one set of travel costs and/or one set of hotel expenses, depending on the regulations set out by the football league.

I have spent the last few days checking weather reports silently praying we can all be at plainmoor on sat to cheer our fav footy team in there quest to avoid relegation and to give our new manager the warmest of receptions he so richly deserves. Also wishing this bloody rain would get lost so my sat is not spent wishing i had a game to go to. Then i happened to watch the local news last night listening to the people of somerset talking about the devastation the weather have caused to there homes and livelihoods i kinda felt very humbled that my attitude was praying that the game will be on what i should have been doing is praying that the rain would stop and give these people a chance to try and recover from the major loss and devastation that they must all be feeling . some of the footage of there homes being engulfed in 3 feet of water and there belongings being washed away bought genuine tears to my eyes .

The article tells us more or less what we knew already. Clearly even with all the bad weather it would be possible to have played some of the postponed games if the pitch had been of the required standard.
As per last year the problem area is the strip in front of Bristows Bench - it was pretty clear in the Morecambe game thgat this area was akin to a peat bog.
Failing to address the issue properly and now the groundsman alluding to "collapsed drains" has really come back to bite us.
Also interesting is the Football League rules relating to early postponements.
We will no doubt have the same situation where we are told that the game will be on only for it to be postponed mid morning on saturday - when common sense would suggest that it should be called off tomorrow (or even today).
There isn't a cat in hells chance that the game will go ahead.

Agree Taboo-puts our disappointment at not being able to watch a football match in perspective.

If, as has been suggested by an employee of the club (and by extension 'The Club') the construction of the new Grandstand has had an adverse effect on the draining/drying of the pitch that would have otherwise mean the last two postponements would probably not have happened then maybe people are right to start having a go at the club. Not saying I agree but with this new information I can see why some would.

When you say highlighted above, what and who are your referring to ? Do explain yourself, read through posts on this thread, especially those posted after yours yesterday and can't see anything I would say that is either having a go at the club, or at the very least, not a fair point.
