He's been followed quite closely by Chesterfield as Matlock is only a few miles away. There are a few Spireites who watch Matlock as a 2nd team and they have been screaming for CFC to sign him. He looks to be a "natural" finisher and it will be interesting to see if he can make the step up.
Got this off a forum I post on. Sounds promising.

Hopefully this gets confirmed soon. Would be a really exciting aquisition. Signing players from further down the pyramid seems to be seen (generally) as too much of a gamble, but i'm really glad to hear we've taken the plunge. Nothing ventured...

It's great that it sounds as though we've stolen a march on a couple of other clubs who were presumably waiting until the summer in the hope of picking him up for free. Well, you snooze you lose. Hopefully we get him signed up before someone else is able to turn his head.

Oh dear!

Looks like this may not be a done deal after all??

If comments from two of the posters on the Matlock forum are to be believed, we have had a bid turned down and he (Hannah) is in their squad to play Whitby tonight??? :-/

Matt said on there that he was 'warming up' with our subs at half time last night? - has he got this wrong?

Don't think SG would have started this thread in the manner he did if he was not 100% sure on the facts

The two posters are both super credible sources and will be at the Whitby Vs Matlock match tonight so i would say your man has jumped the gun a bit.

It is quite possible that both (SG and their "insiders") are right.

In this day and age it could just be that Hannah has signed for us - on a pre contract agreement - which would make him ours in the summer when his contract with Matlock runs out. However if we cannot agree a fee with Matlock - for his services between now and when his contract runs out until the end of June - then he is still their player and he (presumably) will still continue to play for them.

I guess the problem is over the level of compensation being sought by Matlock. Realistically he is only their player for another couple of months (a dozen or so games in reality) and they know they will get nothing for him in the summer. They also know that they could take a nominal sum of money for him now (say £5k) and let us have him for the League 2 run in on an emergency loan basis but the problem I would guess is that they have a realistic chance themselves of a place in the play offs and promotion to Blue Square North and probably see Hannah as essential to their chances of success. So, do they take a small fee and risk losing out on the play offs or waive that fee and hang on to the player and get nothing in the summer (but thereby potentially having achieved a "lucrative" promotion with his help).

The most difficult part in all of this is for the player himself as clearly he has been around a long while, he certainly hasn't burst on to the non league scene and at 24 (or is he 25?) this may just represent his one and only chance at a shot at League football (and depending on whether or not there is a pre contract agreement in place) and who knows what may happen in the summer if he isn't allowed to take up this offer - anything can happen - not least our Manager could look elsewhere or even move on himself potentially killing any deal. That would be very unfortuante for the player as clearly he has shown a lot of loyalty to both Matlock and their Manager by signing another contract last summer when by all accounts he was very much in demand.

Let''s hope common sense prevails and that an agreement can be struck that suits all parties!

Aaah, sorry, might have dropped a bollock on this one. He is definitely still coming here, but he wasn't warming up last night. Catastrophic loanee recognition failure. I will make my apologies on their board too.

Matt.
