Love the post about Rovers asking for the all ticket restriction to be lifted, it was their fans in the home end last season that caused us to put the restriction on in the first place for the listed five games, one of their fans seems to think you can pay on day, best of luck with that one..

And yet there was hardly any trouble at all with these supporters as I remember. And in the local derbies of my youth, fans of both teams intermingled all around the grounds without trouble. On Boxing Day there are no trains, no coaches, no public transport. The Rovers contingent may still be a relatively sizeable one, but the game is hardly going to be a sell-out, and it's difficult to understand why it should have been made all-ticket; the reason given does not in my opinion justify it at all.

any rovers fans looking on here, you should know now yes its all ticket, anyone moaning why its all ticket its because the police ask it to be all ticket and thats because some of your rover fans decided to come into our areas last season and caused problems.had they behaved themselves and showed a bit of respect to home fans then maybe it would have been different. and yes we are the small club down the road just like you are the small team in bristol, nobody likes being the small club, and even worse the big clubs hate being rolled over by the little clubs, so her is to a good game on boxing day .

Forever you missed the point I was making. If some Rovers' fans 'infiltrated' the 'home fans area'
in April, so what? Unless the mere fact of different sets of supporters mingling together is automatically regarded as trouble in itself. I repeat, I don't recall any trouble. And what if I wanted to watch the game with a friend or relation who supported to opposing team. Would we have to split up and watch from different sections of the ground? Or, if we stayed together, would one of us have to stay silent and not shout support for his team. Never happened in my youth. The whole approach to dealing with the small minority in modern crowds who may cause trouble is completely over the top.

ive stood or sat in the away sections a few times over the years at places like home park and exeter, and even brizzle rovers, but have always watched the match and kept quiet as its always a recipe for trouble if you start jumping up and down among the home support which i once found out back it the 70s at swanseas vetch field when i forgot myself for a moment and had to make a hasty retreat guided by one of the boys in blue. im sure rovers fans wouldnt like us doing the sam e in there home ends, so its best for all if supporters stay in there home or away ends respectivly.

People seem to believe that the Police call the shots for `all - ticket` games. What all load of rubbish. The club do. The police just advise, they dont tell them !!!!

Come both games against Rovers and City we will lucky to get 4000 and 4500. I have spoken to so many people who have said they would decide on morning of games on whether to go (cos of family reasons at this time of year). However once ive told them they cant cos of no tickets sold on day, the reply more than once has been....oh well Torquay`s loss.

And it also looks like alot of Rovers fans would like to decide on the morning of the game.

Having Rovers fans on the popside wouldn't bother me one bit, however no one need to pretend here, if Torquay or fans of other clubs went in certain areas at the Mem and started shouting and supporting their club, they would, and I've no doubt over this get thumped.

We've had groups of Exeter and Plymouth fans on the popside during our recent meetings, I know seen them on there, they've respected the fact it's our home end, why couldn't Rovers fans, last April they didn't, big club v small arrogance maybe ? Biggest point missed though, having away fans on the popside is against ground regulations, also unlikely to be missed revenue the amount of home fans wouldn't change that much if at all, if this wasn't all ticket, and so far Rovers have only sold 500 tickets anyway.

Can't really see what the problem would be on Boxing Day in all honesty. As I understand it we have been allocated 1200+ tickets and there is no way we would take that number on Boxing Day. Fans did not go in your end to cause trouble,only to see the game therfore as on Boxing day our allocation is plenty it seems just stupid to prevent extra numbers who make last minute decisions. I felt saturday we did a similar thing by not allowing portsmouth to have the entire South stand end and reallocating our supporters there to another part of the ground,instead we restricted them AND also our own fans anyway because of quite a large amount of seats needed for the splitting the fans. In this day and age every pound should be gratefully received.
Happy Christmas to all you Gull fans but not at our expense on Boxing Day!!! Should be a good game, I said at the start of the season that I thought this season there wouldn't be many points between us but I was really expecting us both to be somewhere near the other end of the table!!

Speaking to one of the main stewards at the Southend game, they have been told to expect no more than 800 or 900 Rovers fans on boxing day. I think at the time they had sold 700 tickets.

On one hand that is a really poor turnout, but considering the 1pm kick off and the fact they are doing so poorly I supose that is reasonable, and probably accurate.

Regarding the police, yes, they can insist matches are all ticket, officially it is done as "police advice" but I cannot imagine any club going against that decision.
As we know we are a little unfortunate to have such an inept police force as we are lumbered with in Devon and Cornwall and following the complete hash up they made of the Plymouth v Exeter paint trophy match (which they categorised as low risk group c match :Oops: ) they will not take any risks in future derbies.

Rovers are in serious threat of the drop like ourselves, especially as they appear as a club to have the same sort of arogance as the likes of Oxford and Luton had ("it will never happen to us" syndrome) ....there is every potential that the April match at Bristol may not be as friendly as I expect it to be on Boxing Day.

900 is probably the maximum we will take remembering it is all ticket and on Boxing Day. Is that a poor turnout? I think not as a lot of people look on Boxing Day as a family holiday and also remember there is no public transport available to get to coach meeting points or back after the game and also a lot of people who would have driven probably will be the worse for wear!!. If we were near the top obviously more would make the effort and it is clear from our home gates that the poor season has had an adverse affect .ie Last season we were getting near and over 8000. i believe Barnet at home was over 8500 with very few Barnet fans there. We have struggled this season to get 7000.
As regards the person who wrote we are a s--te team then position wise , like yourselves we probably are but our recent performances ie the last 12 games have been mainly good and things "appear" to be on the up. Football has a funny thing of biting you on the ass so i would not dare to suggest we will beat you- I have been following the gas too long for that.

Nope, sorry.

Imagine the scenario: the SAG tell us that we need an early KO and an all ticket policy for match X. We tell them to piss off and, come game day, it all goes tits up. How do you imagine it will look when, in Court, Andy Candy is asked why the club weren't advised to make the game all ticket and he says "oh, we were, but we had a big gas bill to pay, so we ignored the advice and did what we liked". How do you envisage the rest of that conversation going?

Beyond this, we have a perfectly excellent online ticket system which allows click and collect. It's a better system (in so far as it exists) than is available at a number of Championship clubs. If you can't decide by 2200 on a Friday, but you'll be absolutely certain of your decision by 0900 the next morning, then you need to reconsider the way you live your life.

If that scenario costs us more than half a dozen attendees, then I think a strongly worded letter to the Health Secretary might be in order to ask him why so many mentally ill people are roaming the streets of Torquay.

I have to agree, if we drew Man Utd in the cup we'd have tens of thousands of people queuing at the ground to buy their ticket in advance. Between turning up in person, phoning or going online, it's not difficult or inconvenient, and doesn't involve two trips or extra hassle.

dont see a problem , my sons live in newton abbot and go over and get theres, like you say if we were playing a big club people wouldnt have a problem getting there, i dont see why people cant get the backsides out of there chairs to go and get tickets, i suppose its just society these days, to frigging lazy!
