Festive Football

The issue lies with people who live away and are returning for the Xmas period, like myself. I don't know what my plans are, I'll be in Cornwall for 6 days, all my friends and relatives have children now, so I need to be ultra flexible to make sure I fit everyone in. Seeing my friends and families is more important than watching a football match. If I could decide on the day, I could possibly drag 4 others with me, but it might be that I'm invited to something else, that the boys decide to go to rugby or whatever on Boxing Day. I have a ticket to go to the City game. Matt may be correct in assuming that this will only knock a handful off the crowd, but I don't think my situation is unique. And some people will just wake up in the morning and fancy going to footy. They dont have that choice.

Top Man Andrew ! And that is one of the best things about supporting a club like Torquay...you do get individual attention whenever it is possible ! It is also possible to talk to individual players, the manager, players' families & key staff at the club...all part of the TUFC family. Obviously all families have their black sheep & moany members ...Happy Christmas fellow forum fanatics...even Brucie & Wivelgull !

I don't think there is a 'one size fits all' solution to this conundrum and on the whole I would certainly tend to agree with Matt and his post. I just look at it like this - if you're a fan and you live fairly close then why are you considering not going anyway? Just get a ticket and if other pressing plans take precedence then fine, at least the club has made a few quid from your decisiveness (or indecisiveness as it were :~D ). If you do decide to go then you can feel smug that you have made the correct decision and have ticket in hand ready to hotfoot it down for the game.

In the case where there may be others accompanying you last minute then I accept this may be the case for some and the club will miss out on a few extra quid, although I see that Superman err sorry, Supergull Andrew Candy has just stepped in with festive offers of assistance to those struggling with family arrangements, HO HO HO!!

But on the whole the system is in place already for you to get tickets so if you're a fan and you have the money there shouldn't be a problem. Maybe if you know there will be friends / relatives visiting and you may be thinking about going why not ask them now then buy tickets accordingly, if they are unsure then you have to miss out. The club can't please everybody all of the time and certain restrictions aren't going to suit everyone but you just roll with the punches and plan ahead as best you can.

Oh and sorry friendlygas for saying Rovers were sh*te. It was a bit mean of me, i watched you in the abandoned cup game at Crawley and you did ok, if the game had of carried on i think you could have beaten them although the one sided wind played a huge part in penning the facing team into their own half. I haven't seen much of you so perhaps it was remiss of me to comment but i'll just rephrase if i may and say 'you are struggling' .

:~D I think that is the fairest assessment.

You have got some decent players and i really don't know why you continue to struggle but I'm sure you'll be fine. Having seen some of the teams this season and our division overall i just think anyone can beat anyone and on one day you could be crap but dig in and nick a win and on another you can play well but lose. It's just so up and down and it will be tight right to the end both at the top and bottom i reckon.

In all honesty if you are assessing us pn the season so far "shite" could cover the first 12 games and "struggling" the last 12!!
I have a feeling that Boxing Day is going to produce a really good game..Two teams who don't score a lot of goals but recently haven't conceded many so I reckon a 4-4 draw!!!! I imagine with the weather forecast of rain the game could be in doubt but there gain up that bloody hill perhaps there is no chance of a waterlogged pitch! lol

The thing is that the ground is licensed for a capacity of 6,000+ so in theory that number of people should be able to turn up at any game & still be safe. If that number of people did turn up & something went wrong then the club would be deemed to be at fault for not meeting the requirements of the certificate.You could argue that ticketing is not a safety requirement but just helps the police to get the necessary numbers in on overtime, also the club will be able to get in the correct number of meat pies, programmes etc.

It's horrific weather today, hope the ground staff have been preparing for a lot of water, pitch must be quite saturated already, looking at the weather, it's quite dry from tomorrow to Boxing Day, hopefully that's enough!

Oh and when you pass someone in the supermarket with their trolley piled high up to the ceiling with food just gently stroll past and shout in their ear - GREEDY BAST*RD!! HOW CAN YOU GET THROUGH ALL THAT IN 24 HOURS!! I've done it a few times and it's quite therapeutic.

I understand the sentiment of your post, Wodge, and of course, you accept in return the glaring difference between 'in theory' and 'in reality'. Wouldn't it be lovely if the world worked as per the theoretical model?
