Re: Torquay United v York City 23/3/13

Great result today- well done ot the management and the players. Thought Labadie was superb - any chance of him signing in the summer? Also thought Gus delt with the centre forward well (for most of the game anyway).

Re: Just a plea

The board was credited with saving the club - What wil be said of it when we are back in the Conference, for we ARE Conference bound - make no mistake!!
What has been done to make sure our leagues status? Our poor performance has been gonig on for months. Why oh why Downes up front witrh Benyon on the bench? If I was him I'd feel really insulted - does Talyor know what he is doing?
Up to Baker and the board to act quickly. Hope Green' Days claim that nice guy's come last proves to be wrong!!!!!

Re: Torquay United v Fleetwood Town - 9/2/12

Did'nt go today - listened on the radio. Must say I never thought we would score once we went behind. I no longer have any faith in Ling or Taylor. Tactics are predicatable and largely ineffective and I believe we are in a relegation battle.
This is the first season I have not wanted to go to Plainmoor regularly for a numbr of years. Its because what Ling serves up in boring. Sick of seeing the oppostion dominate possession for long periods.
I know I will be criticised and accused of being a doom merchant but I really think its time for a change. Improved ground, big screen and possibly conference football, ther's a thought. - hope time proves that the board got its strategy right, but......

Re: Exeter City v Torquay United - 28/1/12

At last time to post! Delighted with the win last night and I cannot fault the players for effort. Well done lads!
Thought Rene, Manse and the two centre backs had really good games. However, thought our full backs were caught out on a number of occasions. Time for Cruise and Leadbetter. Ling also needs to accept that Stevens is simply not good enough for League 2.

Re: Torquay V Wimbledon 1/1 15:00 (new years day)

Inept performance today, in fact, I cannot remember the last game where I saw us play really well (I think it was Accrington). We tried hard but really did not pressurize a very poor Wimbledon side. It is interesting to note that after we score a late equalizer at home it is the oppostion who press for the winner and get one ! We appear have lost the mindset for winning and start with the attitude that we will not lose.
I do not understand why Ling plays Craig out wide as he is ineffective there and we are esentially playing with 10 men. I do not think Mansell and Easton in the same team works and Nicholson was very poor to day and needs a rest. I do not agree with our tactics and more importantly they do not seem to be working! I am also not impressed with Ling's alleged reaction to a fan at the end of the game. I have a feeling it will be a long and hard second half to the season. No chance of getting anywhere near the playoffs.
On a positive note (as I would hate to be accused of being only negative) I thought Rene played well to day as did Downes (I forgive him for the penalty). Yeoman also had a good first half.

Re: Why so negative?

Never been a fan of the view that when I pay money for something I should also be grateful .
I guess I will be placed in the negative camp but nevertheless I think AustrianAndy and Coley have some valid points (and I hope they continue to contribute to this forum). I do not expect us to win every week and I am fully aware of the limited resources available to us. My point is that I do believe we have a squad of players that are better than they are showing at present. This situation is, in part, is the result of the tatics being employed by the manager. I am fed up with a formation that sees us give up posession for long periods of time with the result that the defence has to perform outstandingly just to come away with a point (and sometimes a lot less). It does not have to be like this . We do have the players to be more positive. On one of the rare occasions we attacked Argyle we tore them apart and this involved Howe, Yeoman and Stevens. Ling does need to be less cautious and he also needs to drop Bodin who is contributing very little to the team.
Do these comments make me negative? Possibly, but I am fed up with watching us give the ball away, invite pressure and then concede a goal (both home and away) because, simply, we are better than that.

Re: Plymouth Argyle v Torquay United - 26/12/12

Really fed up that we cannot defend a lead successfully. Saying that, we did not deserve to win. Overall, I thought we were poor and I am still not convinced by Ling's tactics. In all honesty, they were the better team overall. However it was interesting to see their fans celebrate the equaliser as if they had won the game. The biggest club in Devon delighted with a draw against 'Little Torquay' - who would have thought it?!!!
As for the players they cannot be faulted for effort, but Bodin, Stevens and Craig were poor. Craig is NOT a wide player and if not in the middle does not deserve a place in the team. Yeoman showed a lot of promise and although he made one wrong decision, his ball to Stevens was great and Danny should have buried it. I also thought the two centre backs were excellent.
Lastly, well done to the Yellow army - once again, an impressive turnout!!

Well done to the players and Ling today. Sounded much better and we seemed to be far more positive in our approach tro the game. Hopefully this is the first of a number of much improved performances up to and through the festive period.

Re: Torquay United v Southend United - 17/11/12

I know I might be accused of not being a true supporter but I did'nt go today because I am simply fed up with Ling's tactics. Not only are we playing football that consists of simply sitting back and inviting pressure but we are now performing badly doing that!! Sorry, losing faith in Ling rapidly -we badly need to go into the loan market or we could find ourselves at the wrong end of the table very quickly.
Even considering not going to the games with the unmentionables and the Cornish because I am so frustrated with the tactics being employed. :@

Re: Attitudes to the new reality.........

I do not expect Torquay to play like Barcelona but I am concerned that our away performances have seemed to be so dire. I have not been to any away games and rely on reports on this forum and listening to the radio and it seems that we spend the vast majority of time defending. Even at home games we have been guilty of sitting too deep and giving far too much possession to the away team. I do not expect us to beat everybody in the league but I would like to be entertained away from home now and again but, we seem to be a very boring team who, without our main striker, have little chance of scoring at all. I am entitled to criticise both the players and Ling if I believe it is justified. This does not make me less of a supporter of TUFC.
I have high expectations of our club and am a little concerned that some say 'remember we are only Torquay surviving on crowds of 2,000 and should be grateful we have a professional football club at all'. This might, in the last analysis be true, but how will such an approach attract more people through the gates? Unless we dream how will we ever grow and challenge the apathy amongst so many in the Bay? Personally, I hate it when I hear people talk of 'little Torquay' which I get a lot of given where I live. I find it patronising at best and at at worst in my opinion, it fails to recognise the highly professional football club that we are.

Re: Oxford United v Torquay United - 10/11/12

First of all, congratulations to Martin Rice. He has worked hard and has taken his opportunity. Deserves to keep his place for the next game. However, I am increasingly concerned about our performances. Listened today and again we sounded like a team that had very little chance of actually scoring - God we must be boring to watch away! I refuse to pay money to watch such cack but salute those who go to the away games.
At the risk of being criticised heavily, I am beginning to have doubts about Ling. I know there is no money, but do we really have to play such negative tactics away when they seem to produce such small returns? As for the players, why oh why did we sign Easton and Jarvis? Is Yeoman really league standard and will Bodin ever score a goal again this season? We badly need a midfielder woh can create opportunities and another forward who can take them.

Re: Oxford United v Torquay United - 10/11/12

Like those above, I think we get well beaten. Without Howe, we have very little chance of scoring - don't buy the argument that Bodin will come good and I can't see Jarvis or Stevens scoring. Last two games point to us having a long and very hard rest of the season unless we bring in a proven goal scorer on loan (if they is one out there).

Re: Torquay United v Harrogate Town - FA Cup Rnd 1 - 3/11/12

Only listened to that dross today. Like many others I can accept losing to a non-league team and good luck to Harrogate in the next round. What I cannot take is a lack of effort by tha majority of our team mentioned by some who were there. If any player cannot be bothered, then please do the decent thing and leave our club! I would rather play youngsters and lose every week as long as there is 100% commitment. Not being interested is simply unforgivable.
Perhaps the club should really refund those that went today. I have no intention of parting with my hard earned cash in the future if the club cannot guarantee 100% effort on the part of those who represent TUFC on the pitch. Starting to get angry about the whole fiasco today....off for a drink!!!

Re: Torquay United v Harrogate Town - FA Cup Rnd 1 - 3/11/12

Absolute rubbish! Take away Howe and we simply do not have another effective striker - as it was said on the radio, there have been a number of games this season at home where we have missed a have full a hatful of chances - clearly we need to go into the loan market and find another player. Jarvis, Yeoman and Bodin do not seem to be the answer - if we do not, then we can forget the possibility of the playoffs.
Back to to the game today, I feel embarrassed. Losing to a part time team of amateurs who have played midweek, had a long journey down to us, and to cap it allwe were at home! Does'nt get much worse than this. The players need to take a long had look at themselves after this debacle.
Much more than a win on Tuesday will be needed to restore my faith.
