Cambridge's results last season. Some of the defeats are damn right embarrassing. The manager of this team is who our board think is good enough to lead our club. By only interviewing him today, did they actually get time to do any research on him? Or did he just do a very good interview?
Did the board actually consider the bloke's record?

Re: whats is the matter with us
Thing is some disasters you can pre-empt. When you are faced with a very difficult season you do not appoint manager who cannot buy a win. People's reaction maybe extreme but that is because it is an extremely poor appointment. You cannot ignore his recent record. It is utterly appalling. It may be more rational to wait until January to see how badly things have gone but when this appointment is like setting the lifeboats on fire.forevertufc wrote:This to me is acually got nothing to do with his sucsess at Orient, and yes his failure at Cambridge, whats got to me is the fact the majoirty of fans on both sites seemed to have picked up on his failure at Cambridge, and using that as a stick to beat the club and Ling before he has even started life with us.
What get's me aswell is us fans keep refering to the short list,What short list?,the one in the Herald Express?Just aswell have ripped that out and wiped our arse's with it,for what it was worth,my point is we do not know who was on the short list,ok i except that Forster did apply, however did he make the short list ? This we do not know.
To me it is not about what he has done before,it is about what he can do for us,he has been sucsessful in league 2,he know's this league and what players are needed to form a sucsessful team,if he can bring that to us here, then were surely will not complain, the overriding point is,Ling has not even started his life as Torquay united manager ,so we just do not know,he might be rubbish,if he is,i will have my say.
The main thing is we all know next season is going to be tough,we know it is likely going to be fight to stay up,so the club and martin Ling are going to need our support more than ever,so lets start on the right track, and give this guy the support,so he will have atleast the chance to be sucsessful with us,which is what we all want.
It is done now and we just have to lump it...but let's just hope that if this does go the way that many of us fear that the board are prepared to act quickly.

Re: Martin Ling
On Cambridge messageboard there is a thread called the 'Martin Ling debacle' and this was before he was even with our job.

Reading his spell at Cambridge is terrifying. Why oh why have they done this? Ridiculous appointment. I feel so utterly dismayed by this. He was shockingly poor at Cambridge. Embarrassingly poor. This is abysmal!

Re: Do the fans count?
Obviously they are party to things we are not, during the interview process but they are privvy to the same as us when veiwing someone's managerial record. If he cannot manage Cambridge in the BSP, what makes them think he is going to do anything other than struggle with us in League 2. terrible appointment.Richinns wrote:It would seem not.
Forster or Hughes were the fans choice.
So what do the board do? Appoint someone who had an epic fail at one of the biggest clubs in the BSP.
Thanks - you really represent us well don't you.

Re: Martin Ling
Abysmal decision. What on earth are they playing at?
With Branston going today this just finishes off a really shit couple of weeks as a TQY fan.
No wonder Branston left. I am disgusted.
How badly did he fare at Cambridge - one of the biggest clubs in the BSP?
Did he offer to work for free? A fecking joke!

Yes...have the same feeling. Perhaps they are just trying to sell O'Kane and Zebroski before they decide who to appoint.jocktheknife wrote:Anyone else feel that it might not be today now.......not even a mention of a press conference on the O/S yet.

Re: Branston going...
It was widely stated that Branston was going to wait to see who the new manager was before he made a decision. Does signing for Bradford mean that he was never going to sign anyway? I don't blame him for going to Bradford. They are by far the biggest club in this division.
Or does it mean that the board have appointed a right numpty as manager and Branston couldn't wait to get out of here quickly enough.

Re: New manager announcement
With all that has happened, the directors really need to get things sorted. Whilst assuming Branston was going, it is still a kick in the teeth and one wonders just how competitive we are going to be next season. Bevan, Branston, Stanley, Robinson all gone now and we are much the weaker without them so some good news on the manager front will maybe lift spirits, so we need it soon.

Re: Branston going...
I have really been expecting this.
It was obvious he was going and I was so resigned to it that I am almost really pleased because he has not gone to Bristol Rovers.
Just what sort of team are we going to have, especially if O'Kane or Zebroski follow Buckle.

There must be someone who actually knows who can leak it though. I'm surprised it has not leaked out yet, unless of course there is not going to be an announcement today and they cannot make up their minds.
