Re: Gillingham vs Torquay Match Thread
Maybe those singing didn't mean it in a rascist way but it sounds like a rehashing of the song Spurs fans (and now Arsenal and Man. U as well) sang to Adebayor. They most definitely meant it in a rascist way!! Please can we knock this chant on the head.

Re: Away End For Home Fans Poll
I'm not sure why you are confused Dave, I voted no because I don't believe it would be a good idea in the long term. However, I'm happy for the club to give it a trial run and prove me wrong.

Re: Away End For Home Fans Poll
I said give it a trial because I'm perfectly capable of admitting I may be wrong. What have we got to lose? Give it a go and if it works, great and if not we think of something else.
You know perfectly well what I was saying about watching from behind the goal, the view is poor which us why you don't see televised matches filmed from this angle. The reason most grounds have their most vocal support behind the goal is simply because it was cheaper to watch from there so the younger fans tended to congregate there.
My point isn't that we create an amazing atmosphere in the Pop or that a better one couldn't be created in the Away End. I just feel that as we don't even half fill Plainmoor, spreading our fans out even more isn't going to help.
As I said, I'm more than happy to be proved wrong, give it a trial and go from there. I'll be there at every home game whether there is an atmosphere or not.

Re: Away End For Home Fans Poll
I'm not sure that splitting the few of our fans who sing at home games would improve the atmosphere. You certainly wouldn't get all those who like to sing going in there. Some of us like to actually watch the game, something which is next to impossible from behind the goal. I have voted against it and would definitely not be relocating from the pop if it did happen, and I'm sure the others I stand with wouldn't either, so that's 5 singers you've lost just to start with.
The much quoted Histon atmosphere isn't exactly a realistic example, this was a play-off semi-final, of course there was a good atmosphere! Not sure the same would happen for a bog standard league game against the likes of Morecambe, and for any "big" game the away end would be full of opposition fans.
As for the great atmosphere generated by the drummer: no arguments from me, he does an amazing job and improves the atmosphere immeasurably, but how many home games does he get to (this isn't a criticism, I know he lives a long way from Glorious Devon), only one so far this season I think?
I'm happy to see the club embracing ideas from the fans though and I reckon this should be given a trial run to see if it makes a difference, but I'm far from convinced.

I'm convinced he'll prove an excellent signing in time, but i'm not sure he warrants selection yet. I'd be tempted with a slight modifictaion...
Wayno---Manse---Wroe---O'Kane
----------Zebs----Benners
You could also argue that Wayno isn't ready yet either. He hasn't looked fit to me since he came back. I think we have to give Kee a run in the side, tell him he is starting the next 4 games to take some pressure off and see what he can do.

Re: Paul Buckle’s Head
What's wrong with 3 in midfield? Eunan with 2 "minders", that way we get the benefit of Eunans football brain and ability to pick a pass but still remain solid. Obviously this creates a lack of width, but if Senda can reach a decent level of fitness he could provide this as an old fashioned overlapping full back. (harsh to drop Robbo, but he's never going to provide an attacking threat).
Alternatively, 3 centre halves with wing backs would also allow 2 defensive midfielders + Eunan whilst keeping the width.
I know we all want to see less messing with the formation but i feel we have to find a way to utilise Eunans talents. He is a class above this division, we just need to fit him into the side somehow.

Re: Colin Lee pay-off. Will it cut our playing budget?
SouthamptonGull wrote:I'm reliably informed that the Club have agreed a settlement with Colin Lee on a figure of over £100,000.
I thought Colin was on a 12 month rolling contract for considerably less than £100,000? (I'm sure it was posted on here that it was in the region of £60,000 basic with bonuses from our promotion making it up to the oft quoted £100,000)
If this was the case, then once we informed him that his services were no longer required he would surely only be entitled to 1 years salary.
Obviously, I am not privy to the finer details of his contract but this seems like an excessively large pay-off to me.

RussianGull wrote: I blame the low attendance on Sky Sports, fringe supporters who may not come regular are more likely to stay at home with their subscription watching Chelsea drum West Ham than they are to go out to Babbacombe and watch Torquay.
cosmic74 wrote: Also I would like to point out that there are a lot of Gulls fans like myself that can't get to the games for reasons other than because they would rather sit in their front room on a Sat afternoon that make their way to Babbacombe.
Maybe this explains the poor attendances, the missing fans are heading to Babbacombe on a Saturday afternoon instead of Plainmoor?
