Potential Buyers

Delighted with this news. Romantic notions of the brewdog millionaire were all very well, but this clubs has been through a period of sustaining £1million a year losses , under James Watt I have a feeling we may have gone from the club akin to the 'house that jack built' to the club akin to the 'house that jack built' and long term have been in no better position.

It seems that next week we may have new owners moving in, and they're all true TUFC fans, who will have the best long term interests of our club at heart 'seriously, who doesn't like the sound of that' We all want a return to the EFL, but it comes under romantic notions again. If we look at Sutton and Hartlepool promoted in our near miss season, both couldn't sustain EFL membership past 3 seasons , FGR couldn't sustain EFL membership with the backing of endless pots of gold.

We all agreed' long term sustainably' is what we hoped for, think we're looking at that now, and think these guys may attract backing from bigger gate figures maybe, for now it's about waiting to hear what plans these have for our club.

The fact you posted what's on the link, on the 7th April suggests Michael Westcott led consortium may have been the preferred bidder all along, personally had a hunch this was the case since the Havant home game, I questioned in my own mind why Neil Warnock was still around, cant imagine if Watt/Jarvis had really been preferred bidders they'd have either wanted or required Mr Warnock's help.

Plus, he's never moved more than 20 miles from home lol.
Well that's a creative reaction. I merely named someone I'd like to see here at Torquay, I'd also like to buy a brand new campervan but couldn't afford one.

Until the ownership issue is resolved, and we know what scale of ambition they may, or may not have, it's difficult to know type of manager we'll attract to the club, but then, that would be stating the obvious.

Luke Gerrard free agent now as well. Believe he's won both the Isthmian and NLS as a player, 5th round of the FA cup and twice in the NLP play-offs, I've long time admirer of his work at Boreham Wood knows this level well, had them punching above their weight for a long time. What went wrong there last term I don't know, most successful coach/managers have the odd bad season.

Torquay Utd under 18

Trouble our U18's as we know don't compete at the highest level, so difficult to quantify what level some of them are really at. Sick, tired and frustrated seeing young players with some development potential tossed aside like a dirty rag, Lolos being a prime example only to go and benefit other clubs.

McGavin a first teamer I know, there's a serious player in there with the right guidance, Archer as well, should be looking to keep them at the club, from the youth set up I like both Thomas and Wellington , Havant's performance was nether here nor the there, both Thomas and Wellington were in no way over roared by the occasion and or the big home crowd, Wellington always looking to try and make something happen in the attacking third, of course they aren't forts team starters as yet, however both these lads might have something going forward.

firstly lets get this whole 'one forum is better than another' thing out of the way, to suggest that is utter nonsense, personally think I/we should be grateful to the admins of this forum, the BTPIR and TFF for giving us platforms to expresses and exchange opinions that cater for all ages and tastes, don't think it would be seen widely as a huge success if one forum was getting large number of daily posts from the same 5 people who are all retired, personally I read them all, I gain from them all, even though I'm known for posting here.

Now back on topic, I've kept my powder dry on this subject for a reason, I simply have no clue what's going on behind the scenes, the only thing I do know, I've had this from more than one player (horses mouth) Downes and the players are as much in the dark as we are.

All we've seen across all platforms is people fliting from conspiracy theories, to rumour, and other rumours again, leading to some way over the top emotional responses with out knowing what's reality, personally I won't react until 1) a new owner is confirmed 2) I've given them a fair hearing as to what their future plan for our club is.

This whole situation one way or another has to reach a conclusion soon, it's frustrating being kept in the dark, all we can do is hope for some good news soon.

Doubt Merse or anyone knows. I can assure you having been told by at least one senior pro, the players at this stage do not know. Until the club confirms new ownership and comes out of administration there won't be a retained list , until any new owners appoint a permanent new manager I would hazard a pretty accurate guess no one will be offered contracts.

Torquay United v H&W Sat 20th Apr 3pm

Going to say it. No matter what future Aaron Downes has at our club, or how it may end for him, I'm always going to be grateful for these last few weeks of the season, how he's conducted himself off the field and in interviews, never making it about 'him' unlike GJ, factoring in the heightened pressure, transfer embargo, often having no other choice but to name a largely 'un-useable' 'fake' substitutes bench think he's done a decent job all round, and we've seen a slow but but noticeable change in style of play, I've had limited internet access, couldn't post after Tuesday, but we saw in that game a greater use of width.

As for this game, very difficult to quantify this performance as Havant were just so poor. I've stood up time and again for McGavin, I felt him to be a victim of GJ need to make players fit into his philosophy, rather than adopt a style of play, to suit the players he had, we saw the best of McGavin in this game, why ? In my opinion down to Booth's inclusion in midfield, and yesterday Booth proved to me, he's better midfielder than a defender, Booth had the pace, mobility and enthusiasm to go box to box, which allowed McGavin the freedom to just play his game, rather than McGavin expected to be one of the endless numbers of players flooding forward then expected in return to chase back, which will never suit his game.

This game could have 6.0 at half time, and no real surprise it turned into a bit of a training match second half. In conclusion I did join the wild celebrations Tuesday night, it wasn't for the season, because that's been shocking and we know all know it, it wasn't so much avoiding relegation either, more avoiding relegation coupled with our off the field issues, that has given our club a chance of re-birth.

Whilst my preference is a complete fresh start, part of me is now wondering what Downes could do, with a chance to bring in his own squad, and in print his own ideas, from what I've seen recently I do not think he'd be a Gary Johnson 2.0, what he's done as interim manager for me, at least makes him worthy of consideration, or even retention as part of any first team coaching set up under a new manager.

No idea for this match, you could see the emotion on the players faces, as well as the fans after the game Tuesday. This is a dead rubber, no pressure could be a drab affair.

Taunton Town v Torquay United Tues 16 April KO 19.45.

I'm off to the match with 2 others, will be getting right behind the team, we all know what's riding on this, win and we're safe tonight, lose we could be relegated before Saturday depending on other results.

Prediction, no idea, I have a sinking feeling, but we need a win, so going with it.
