Torquay Utd v Worthing 12/8/2023 15:00

Well, I have to agree with almost all the previous posts.

Worst, most spineless performance I can remember. When your keeper is MOTM and you lose 0-3 it says it all. Halstead was generally excellent and pulled off a couple of worldie saves - if his performance had matched the rest of the team it would have been 0-7.

All match we managed 6 attempts (only one before HT) and only 2 were on target, neither looking like beating the keeper. Indeed, he will have had few more relaxing afternoons than this one. But, I have to say, Worthing came with a great game plan, stuck to it and created chance after chance. Well done to their coaching team. If I had one criticism of them it was that they overplayed at times because it was so easy to cut through our joke of a defence.

I was one of those who clapped them off - they played good football throughout making our hoofball look what it is - outdated and clueless.

Agree about the reaction to the substitution of McGavin but I blame the management - it has been clear for over 12 months that he and Hanson do not have what it takes. Not a surprise that GJ didn't want to face the Radio Devon interviewers.

Finally, a comment about recruitment. I find it imcomprehensible that we have not strengthened the centre of defence - Tomlinson had a 'mare, he is clearly not ready for senior football, whilst Craske and Jenkins-Davies look distinctly lightweight. Da Silva looked more promising late on but his team mates seemed reluctant to let him have the ball - presumably because they didn't want to be shown up!

Time is running out for the management team already.

Season tickets - in or out?

Sorry - I will not buy a season ticket to watch regional football. It was the same last time we were related to the 6th tier - I did not attend at all whilst Gary Owers was in charge but did so once Gary Johnson was appointed. I will wait to see what transpires and decide whether to attend on a match-by-match basis.

MOTM - Wrexham

Halstead - four of his saves were truly outstanding
Nouble - caused all sorts of bother for the Wrexham defence and scored of course
Donellan - made a number of important interceptions, surged forward well and generally secure down his flank
Jarvis - again was another thorn in the Wrexham defence with good link play and disallowed goal
Moxey - saw off Mullins

No-one had a bad game.

Pop-side support was amazing!

Torquay United v Wrexham Sat 29 April KO 5.30pm.

Thought that was a great game and a credit to both teams and the league itself. The atmosphere was electric and the action was often end to end. The fact that we held the league champions and would have won but for one missed tackle when we were pressing for the second showed had good our all-round performance was and particularly the masterful goalkeeping of Halstead. So sad that poor performances earlier in the season left us with too big a mountain to climb.

Will we stay up?

Sorry, we are down. Even if we win on Saturday we will not get anything from the champions elect who will enjoy a chance to play with freedom and make us look what we are and have been for much of the season - a shambles.

Torquay Utd v York City - Sat 15th April 3pm

Having seen the highlights it reminded me just what an excellent, exciting game this was. I had kind of forgotten because after the elation of the final whistle I came down to earth with a bump when I realised that Aldershot had grabbed a late winner. Fantastic performance by Jarvis but a great all-round performance by the team. We had a total of 10 attempts with 7 on target for the three goals but in fairness York had even more attempts on target being thwarted only by another fantastic, match-winning performance by Halstead. Will it be enough? I doubt it, but at least we continue to hope!

Will we stay up?

What a game and performance yesterday! Was buzzing at full time but almost immediately fell flat to see Aldershot had grabbed a late winner. We are still no nearer safety despite the win and, as we face two away games and a final home game against the champions elect, it looks increasingly like we will fall agonisingly short of survival.

Torquay United v Eastleigh - Good Friday 7th April

This was a gritty, professional performance against a strong but horrible opposition. There were many excellent performances throughout the team but I thought the standouts were our two scorers, Jarvis and Moxey. It was a game of few clear-cut chances - we only had 5 attempts all game but 4 on target. They probably had slightly more chances but I only remember 2 on target.

MOTM for me was Tom Lapslie who was all over the park (in a good way), harrying their midfield and forcing them to go long much of the time. He put in some great tackles and took his goal superbly.

Also of note was the Plainmoor crowd - not the biggest bank holiday audience but the support was loud and continuous for much of the game. It was an atmosphere which has been missing since the Derby FA Cup game.

Will it be enough? I doubt it. Win tomorrow and I will dare to believe but for the moment I think it is a case of too little too late.

MOTM - Eastleigh

Lapslie - fantastic energy, crucially combative and coolly taken goal
Hall - great goal but another great midfield performance
Jarvis - worked tirelessly up front
Donellan - good defensive performance
Moxey - another quality display

And the home crowd-Plainmoor was eocking

On the substantive issue, I believe only Aldershot is realistically in the mix with the bottom four now. Can't see us accumulating enough points to threaten them though so, I think we are down but hope we continue to fight right to the end.

Anything but a win tomorrow is a further nail (or two) in the coffin!

Strewth - its the hope that kills you! 'Fraid we are still deep in the do-do and I can't see us getting another 4 wins which will be needed to give us a fighting chance. But well done team on making a go of it.

MOTM - Dagenham

Jarvis - our only player to do himself justice all season and a great goal
Evans - provided the energy in midfield until his knock put him out of action
Stobbs - good first half but increasingly anonymous second half
Hall - provided cover for the defence until removed from play
Moxey - the left side of defence was secure all game

Gary Johnson, stick or twist? - As of 07/03/23

His interview was embarrassing - he sounds like a totally defeated man.
