Johnson latest drivel

This again to me highlights the Yeovil budget to be bigger than ours. We are told our budget is good, but it will be against part time clubs.

This is not a criticism, just the way it is.

Johnson latest drivel

SWgull wrote: 28 Jan 2024, 13:12 Genuine question asked in the spirit of forums are designed for all opinions. I am keen to hear from any pro Johnson supporters on why he is still the man for the job. I think he should have gone months ago but respect the fact others may think differently. If so, why?.
It is a good question and worth exploring further. I would start with, what constraints is he working under, do we honestly know or just like to believe we know. I list a few points to consider.

> Budget - We are told the budget is good, is this correct. We are one of only a handful of full time teams in this league, so you would assume our budget is higher than most. However, does this get you the better players. So, being told our budget is good means little.

> Players - Lets look at a full time player v part time player (these figures are made up for highlighting my point only). Lets say our full time player is on £800 a week / £40,000 a year. A part time player could be on £50 a game / £2,000 a season. However, he has a profession and earns £1,200 a week / £62,000 a year (yes £24k more). There is nothing to say a full time player is better, as we've seen. Part time players are very fit, train a number of times a week and would not take a pay cut to turn full time.

> Past Salaries - Saying we have competed salary wise before is not the answer. In League 2 we would have been paying our players more!

> Location - Does location hold us back. If we were to go part time, do we have the players within, say a 40 mile radius to compete at a part time level. If you believe not, full time remains the only option. So, we are back to budget.

I strongly believe there to be many other factors, but the four above are a great start. We as a club need to think 'outside the box', and that includes us. Lets not shout and scream at each other, while making out we know i) the facts ii) without having a better suggestion.

Worthing v Torquay United - Saturday 27th January 2024

Keithsson wrote: 26 Jan 2024, 07:25 Going back to the OP, for those of you wanting a QUIET drink beforehand you would be advised to avoid The Railway Inn...

The ABF styles itself like a 'firm' but is peaceful and normally well self policed, existing purely to support the club with passion and noise... drums, flags, chants, pyro, that sort of thing. However. With a young demographic, and with the addition of alcohol, 'over exuberance' on the fringes can never be totally ruled out.

When they refer there to 'let's show this former league club what we're about', they are not referring to a physical confrontation but, as stated, 'passion and noise'.

For these bigger games the usual drill is lots of drinking, singing and chanting at the Railway Inn followed by a 'march' en masse down Cross Street, over the crossing at South Farm Road and then down Pavilion Road to the ground, arriving not long before kick-off.

Its not my bag but each to their own.

So for those who simply want a pleasant pre-match drink therefore I would direct you to The Brooksteed in South Farm Road or The Green Man in South Street Tarring. Both are real ale micropubs equidistant from the ground, the former is nearer to Worthing Station, the latter nearer to West Worthing Station.

Enjoy the day, just thought a 'heads up' about the Railway Inn might be in order 👍🏻
Thank you for this message. I was tipped off this morning to avoid the Railway Hotel. Enjoy the game mate, I'll buy you a drink.

Worthing v Torquay United - Saturday 27th January 2024

Saturday see us travel to Sussex, to play Worthing - My home town.

Worthing, currently sit second in the table and score goals for fun.

If we only win one more game this season, please let it be this one. About 50 guys from my golf club will be attending this game, mostly hoping to get one over me. Some attend Worthing games from time to time, but for most it will be their only game of the season. I keep telling them it's their cup final and only there for the Torquay.

The ground is in a street between West Worthing and Worthing stations. A short walk from both. If you are looking to drink before hand, I recommend the Railway Hotel, opposite Worthing station.

I can't see us getting anything from this game. Worthing to win 4 - 1

Full time/Part time

Location Location Location.
Let's be honest, some of our players are miles off others we see week in, week out from visiting teams. A London cabbie earning £100k plus, playing part time for a team within 50 miles of London will not located to Torquay. Simple. . .

And before anyone asks or thinks about it. He will not be returning to Torquay. His family and his partners family are all from the London area.

Just remember the great days he had for us and that goal at Woking in front of the Ben Wynter stand.

Positive Thoughts only!

North Curry House wrote: 15 Nov 2023, 15:00 With my "positive" head on, I predict a 2-1 victory this weekend. I fully expect Yeovil to rest several first choice players. On the other hand we have to play our new additions to cover for the "crocks".

The league reamains our priority but the tile is gone, so we are aiming for second spot.
Yeovil don't have the largest of squads, so expect limited players rotation from them. On the other hand we have a cup tided player.

MOTM - Havant

This is a tough one for all the right reasons.
Donnellan - won everything and covered across the back three very well.
Archer - not the finished article, but cover large areas, gave the midfield legs.
Williams - some great attaching lines and took his goal well.
Ash - was a right handful. Got their centre back booked early, which helped as the game went on. Took his goal well.
Filip - quite simply may have won us the game with his penalty save. Remember, these three points at the season end.

I firmly believe this is exactly the type of squad player we should be signing. If we could get the first choice 13 /16 players right, a handful of guys like this would be very welcome. Some will work out and develop, while other may not.

I believe the negative comments reflect on the first choice element.
