As soon as I saw this, I knew we were doomed. Your track record is not good is it?

cambgull wrote:According to a recent ruling in courts, it is now legal for pubs to show EU based streams live, including Saturday 3pm kick offs as they are EU based and therefore part of our trade agreements. I don't know what the rules are for home use but considering streams on the net have pretty much doubled in number since the rulings, I'd assume it is also acceptable.

For the sake of the site though, I won't post them up on public and I will also definitely not send you a PM, DTG...
The streaming of live games on the internet through non-subscription sites is still illegal. It's more difficult to police though because you don't actually store anything like you would with music or films.

The EU 'ruling' you mentioned (still to be ratified by the European parliament) related to a Portsmouth landlady who was receiving her broadcast via a Greek satellite channel which she subscribed to. In other words, she was paying for the service, and that's why it might be allowed in the future.

I wouldn't want anyone to get into trouble .....

Paul Goddard, Francis Jeffers and David Nugent are in the one game/one goal for England club. So it must be one (or all) of them.

Re: 'Gulls On Tour' day?

You shouldn't assume (like TV commentators) that all the away following has made the journey from that team's home town. I would guess that a large proportion of any away following are exiles who live in that general area. So any match in the SE area will attract fans who now live in London and so on.

If you're looking for a game to target, what about Oxford on Easter Monday?

3pm kick off; school holidays; good for travel from the midlands and the home counties; decent ground (well 3 sides anyway). A yellow day wouldn't work though unfortunately, but we could have a 'black' day. As it's 5 games from the end of the season, black might be more appropriate anyway, the way we're playing, we could be doomed .......

Maybe after the last three home games it needs to be called TQ0, and not TQ1!

Either way, I'll be doing nothing to celebrate, it's a pretty pointless day.
St. George's Day is always April 23rd. Like all saints days, it is set by the church, and doesn't move. And it is not a public holiday.

May 2nd is the May Day holiday; should be May 1st but in the UK, it is always the first Monday in May.

Weird and wonderful club names

Driving into Nottingham yesterday, I passed Gedling Miners Welfare's ground (East Midlands Counties Football League - tier 10) and their next fixture is against Thurnby Nirvana.

When I got back home and checked out this league, another team is Graham Street Prims.

Anyone know of any other wierd and wonderful club names? (Pub sides don't count)

Living up to my username ....

St. James' Park and Plainmoor are both 3º31' W of the meridian (Googleearth), so technically Plymouth IS the only club west of Exeter.

Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics

Following on from the dabate about whether we're a 'soft touch', I did some statistics searching on the following sites. (I know I should get out more!).
http://www.footstats.co.uk/index.cfm?task=Leagues
http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/D ... 94,00.html

Maybe you'll be surprised to find that we are the 'fouliest' (?) side in League 2. Although Wycombe have committed more fouls, they've played a game more, so our fouls per game ratio is the highest. Also, we are the team fouled against least. This suggests we are the cloggers rather than the 'cloggees'. Or maybe the conspiracy theory that referees collude to ensure we are given nothing is correct after all.

Individually, Zebroski is the fouliest player in our team, followed by Benyon and Branston.

On the subject of shooting, we are below average at hitting the target, but when we do, we tend to score. The shocker here is how many times we've hit the woodwork. 20 times. The next highest is Shrewsbury with 15, then Wycombe with 10. Why is this? Are our goals slightly too small? Or the posts too thick?

Zebroski is also our 'shootiest' player, unfortunately the majority being off target (57%), and his goals to shots ratio is 14%. Benyon's on target ratio was the reverse at 58%, and his goals to shot ratio was an incredible 39%. Berbatov's by the way is 18%, and Charlie Austin's is 20%, just for comparison. Does this make Benyon better than Berbatov?

I'm not sure what you can make of these statistics, but it kept me amused for a while.
