Re: Whinge, Moan, Rant And Anything Else Put It Here ...
The problem with your comparison is that the disposable income figures you have used are the 'real' disposable income and allow for inflation, whereas the costs you show are actual costs. And the first few things you thought of? They were exactly the items and prices quoted in articles in the Telegraph and the Mirror, presumably based on ONS publications. I would guess that the prices of things like white goods, TVs, and clothes have not increased anything like as much.ferrarilover wrote:In 1981, the average house cost 3.25 x average annual salary. In 2011, the average house cost 5.5 x the average annual salary.
Average household disposable income in 1981 was £7500. In 2010 it was 14000. That's an increase of 86.66%. Meanwhile:
A pint in 1981 was 53p, today, it's £3 - an increase of 466%
A litre of unleaded was 35p, today, it's £1.30 - an increase of 271%
A sliced white loaf was 36p, it's now £1.32 - an increase of 266%
VW Golf GTi MkI was £5400, it's now £25,845 - an increase of 378%
These were the first few things I thought of, I'm sure I haven't just got lucky.
Matt.
The 'actual' figures for disposable income, not adjusted for inflation, would show an increase of about 150%.
And the house price multiple thing is more to do with lower mortgage interest rates pushing the house prices up. Then it was around 15% and now what, 5%. So as house prices rose, the house price multiple of salary became higher, but the actual monthly repayments were the same or lower.

Actually, I knew who they were (allowing for the V/W typing error). I was waiting to see how long you'd take to respond!AustrianAndyGull wrote:It's Rapid Wien oldpedant (Wien) being the German for Vienna so it's Rapid Vienna they were playing. An Austrian club!![]()

Like Bayern Munich are in fact Bayern Munchen, Rapid Vienna are in fact Rapid Wien.

Re: Today i passed ?????????? Ground
Today I passed the ground of Asteras Tripoli of the Greek 'Super' League. They finished third last season and played in this year's Europa League and lost to some team called Rapid Vien (anyone heard of them?). This season they currently lie sixth.
Clearly a massive club with a ground capacity of 7616! Hope for us yet.

Re: Suicide
In the case you mention, the person being 'assisted' may not be aware of what he is agreeing to due to dementia, which is why the police were asked to look into it. Quite right too.Gullscorer wrote:A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of encouraging or assisting a proposed suicide.
Suicide is not a crime. Nor is attempted suicide. So why should it be a crime to encourage or assist somebody to carry out such an action? Of course there will be cases where ulterior motives may be suspected, but, always providing that the person who wishes to die is compos mentis, and that appropriate safeguards are in place to prevent any skulduggery, what is wrong with helping that person to carry out his or her wish to die?
Unfortunately, it appears at present that people have no option to apply for official or judicial confirmation as to the correctness of their actions nor of the state of mind of the person concerned.
Is it beyond the capabilities of our lawmakers to draft an appropriate law? As things currently stand, making it a crime to encourage or assist somebody to do something which is not a crime, also makes the law something of an ass.

Where have you been? It's the chairwoman now, Thea Bristow. So are you saying that she is to blame?Yellow4life wrote:
It can't really be AK's fault- the chairman holds the money, so surely he is to blame for allowing Alan to use the money.

It seems that his 'legal opinion' is out of date. You'd have thought that a solicitor would know ALL the rulings.

Conversely, we've dropped 15 points from winning positions. So it's definitely not as clear cut as you think.NickGull wrote:Brucie - we've gone behind in 14 league games this season. We've gone on to lose 8, picking up 11 points from the other 6. I don't think it's quite so clear cut as you think.
