Make money from selling players Taelee is a dream.
Maybe McGavin will become a worldbeater or has he peaked in his 2 games this season ?

Hemel Hempstead Town v Torquay United, 23rd September 2023

JimNichol'sdog wrote: 28 Sep 2023, 17:48 Although the League Cup - I'll keep calling it that - is much devalued these days I wouldn't call it meaningless for lower division clubs.

No doubt Exeter made money from this week's tie and will generate more income from the game against Middlesbrough. There's even a chance they could progress to the next round and draw a Premier League side.

I'm sure Exeter's set up isn't perfect, but I expect that their cup income will be invested wisely. In addition, at least they have owners with an interest in and knowledge of football unlike Mr Osborne.

It might be sacrilegious to say so, but Torquay could do worse that follow Exeter's example.
Good point, far too many here just seem to accept
that our slide to this level is ok.
That is a major problem never mind a victory in the cup over the Mighty Hungerford and some here will thinking all is wonderful in the world.

DB57 wrote: 27 Sep 2023, 11:34 But it does matter doesn’t it.
It’s indicative of where we are as a club. We have an owner who has no interest in football whatsoever, a management team who are unprofessional, sloppy and have
taken us to the depths of the NLS, and a squad of players who, overall, are a disgrace.
Failing to beat Ivybridge says it all and sums up exactly where we are and where we are heading
Shameful result.
Down the road Exeter beat Luton for further monies, Plymouth on a roll after hitting 6 v Norwich it’s tough to swallow. We get turned over by Hemel and 6 first teamers can’t beat Ivybridge in the Insignificant Cup.
Next up the mighty Hungerford, surely it cannot get any worse..can it ?

desperado wrote: 24 Sep 2023, 20:44 You have to ask why Gary Johnson is not addressing this ?
14 goals conceded in ten games , several teams have let in 14 but only 7 teams have conceded more.
This is costing us , I suppose he is thinking they will improve the more they play together , well it's it's not happening yet and how much longer is he going to let it go on ?
14 goals conceeded if it was not for the Mark Halstead heroics it couls so easily have been 30+ goals conceeded is the reality.

Like last year results like this will cost us dearly . Just can't believe Johnson's after match interview. Seems that he wasn't watching the same game as us supporters. Need an experienced Centre Half and more ball winners if we are going to get anywhere this season.

I ask the question is Johnson the right man for the job?
Is Johnson the right man for the job ?
We all know it’s probably a 50/50 split.
This season nothing but promotion is acceptable after the shambles of last season.
We need to strengthen in the areas everybody has identified.
Failure to do this with loanees soon and we will fail miserably and it will be another season wasted.

A key game will be Maidstone at home and the 2 in early November will shape things up v Bath and Yeovil both at Home.
Not easy with this present bunch, and that is why we need to strengthen if we are going to be contenders this season in my opinion.

Stickingitin wrote: 23 Sep 2023, 19:51 Thing is... This team would be great if they were taught how to defend!
thats down to Downes then
but the facts are
Donnellan was not bought as a Right Back at 26yo you would hope he can defend with 200 appearances in football behind him
Marshall 23yo would like to think he would have learnt how to defend with 100 career appearances ...not convincing at all
Tomlinson 21 is far too weak at this stage but he has been a defender and 60 appearances in his career
Moxey well he should not need teaching surely...500 appearances.

Very worrying we are carved open time after time at this level and unless its sorted we all know it will be a long hard season.

Hemel Hempstead Town v Torquay United, 23rd September 2023

10 games in 2 points off the top in this Mickey Mouse league. Taunton above us btw, who would have thought it ?
Clear as day this defence simply ain't good or strong enough, an embarrassment we cannot hold a lead against another team consisting of the Burcher the Baker and the Candlestickmaker.
Centre back maybe 2 needed surely Johnson realises this, we have been papering over the cracks and have not played well all season.
Wake up and smell the coffee is my message to the rose tinted ones who only post here when we tend to win.

McGavin much improved 🤔 well he could not get worse than last season could he ?
Hall and Dawson back and he will be benched is my opinion.
He will have to wait his chance again, and with the Old timers he might have to wait long for the next muscle pull to get another chance.

culmstockgull wrote: 17 Sep 2023, 13:47 MellowYellow, This has nothing to do with the Johnson in or out campaign which is not really anthing more than annoyance held over from last season, several people moaning about him does not constitute a campaign. Besides he is experienced and old enough to look after himself.
My comments are based purely on what I see, not a single game taken out of context, if you had been at wimborne yesterday you would have seen as I have have since the start of the season exactly what i mentioned in an earlier post, our back four struggled against a part time, overweight team from two leagues down. Moxey was good on the left but judging by the way he was moving is still carrying an injury and mcgavin was his permanent shadow covering for any mishaps, Hanson if could stick to his task and not go walkabout is a secure and competant right back with an eye for a pass, Tomlinson and Marshall would in all honesty struggle to get into wimborne's team, they are a disaster waiting to happen. On paper we have a squad of 20, take out the spare keeper, two long term injures, one gone to havant and a first year pro who will in reality be going out on loan and we are paper thin, yesterday, two went off with injuries, Hanson holding his hamstring, Jarvis, as he was face down and sparko for several minutes probable consussion.
If this constitutes a Johnson out posting then so be it.
I was at Wimborne yesterday Culmstock and I agree with you. We and many others can see the frailties despite the recent run. Yes it has improved
but we have just beaten a side that is in the 8th tier of English football, so its a win and into the next round. Nothing else and we need to strengthen this defence now.

Wubble U wrote: 17 Sep 2023, 10:48 I have to agree regarding our defence, every game we look flaky at the back and the one area that was crying our for being strengthened since last season and we've brought no one in.

How many times this season have we seen Marshall and Tomlinson open a massive gap between them and the strikers getting in time and time again.

When I saw Yeovil bring in Michael Smith last week, it confirmed my thinking that Yeovil will win this league. It was the sort of move we desperately needed, wiley old head steering the defence, but at best we'll end up with lightweight 'starlet' from an U21s team learning the game.

I guess it's purely down to the contrasting finances, but will be the difference between winning the league and settling for playoffs.
Spot on, central defence is lightweight and needs strengthening if we are to win this league. The Big games will be against Yeovil without doubt. Nouble v Tomlinson I wonder who might win that battle ?
We need Hall and Dawson back asap, then the likes of McGavin and Hanson can warm the bench or farmed out like Crowe.

Torquay United v Chelmsford City Sat 9 Sept KO 3pm

A massive 3 points against a good Chelmsford side.
Missed chances early on, and the visitors hit the post and crossbar. A worldly strike from McGavin and worthy of winning any game. Massive gaps in central defence is still a concern and needs addressing, as is very obvious.
The late show continues , a huge win against far better opponents than sorry Farnborough.
On another note huge mention to Jules for the magnificent playing surface of which I congratulated him on before kick off. COYY
