Taunton Town v Torquay United Tues 16 April KO 19.45.

BigDave wrote: 16 Apr 2024, 22:37 Don't wish to be pedantic but if you check you will see that a win and a draw could be enough for Taunton to survive if Eastbourne lose their last match away to Braintree.
Personally ,I would like Taunton to survive in this league not least because its a short away trip and saves on travelling costs for the club and besides it seems they are very close to experiencing what we are going through at the moment.

Taunton Town v Torquay United Tues 16 April KO 19.45.

Did I enjoy the win, no, I aged ten years, the pitch was a cross between the somme and a beach, not condusive to our way of football, after watching the endeavour of the lads last night I am now more than certain that we threw in the towel before the Yeovil and Bath game, we knew we could not compete so just tried to get out of there without getting hammered.
In game 45 of 46 Mcgavin puts in a performance worthy of his talent , besides a very nice goal, in the first five minutes he headed the ball more than I have seen him all season, run far more than normal oh ,and I am sure I actually saw him tackle a Taunton player. As an aside the pasties were very nice.
Now for the first time in months I am actually looking forward to the game on saturday. I would prefer not to see Acheampong ,jarvis, dawson or martin on the pitch, it would show total disrspect to those that have turned up and played week in week out.

Whoever it is, be it Brewdog, be it The Range, be it Poundland, we're all going to have something to moan about once they are announced...and that is the crux of it... WHEN they are announced. All this speculation and rumours is doing my head in.
You have to question the motives of those that consider any potential bidder to be a negative in some shape or form, those that support a particular bidder, those that support only a TUST based model, how many, we do not want them comments are on this particular link, its just mischief making, remember, we have until the national league AGM in June to resolve this or else it is a phoenix club of some description, while we may be blessed with many very rich people in south devon how many are daft enough to throw millions at the club to get us in a position where most of us think we should be,and of those small select group, who will pass the most rigorous sniff test of propriety.

IJN wrote: 14 Apr 2024, 18:14 That's exactly the wrong approach though, that's what causes problems for clubs.

You have to check the reasoning and intention of anyone that is buying your club BEFORE they buy it. Just look at Bury, Oldham and more recently Reading.

Know who they are, then support them!
We may wish to check them out but we cannot do diddly squat about it, who every is mad enough to buy the club will have skeletons, if they vote labour or green, a member of the national trust, goes to butlins for their holidays, and hasnt paid two parking fines. Regardless they put up the money they make the decisions. Rinse and repeat.

Goodness ,we are quick out of the traps to condemn someone that might not even know about torquay united let alone buying the club, same goes with brewdog, I bet the negatives are being typed up as we speak.
Who ever buys the club , let them at least sign the paperwork before we start destroying their credability because they do not have the morals of mother teresa.

Positives from today, the yellow army who were totally amazing, the rest of it was worse than hopeless, if the team are on their coach and wondering whether they deserve their wages, you do not, perhaps boyd and Hall and archer for his non stop game, the rest of you were should collect your P45's, because no matter what league we are in next season I do not want to see to you in a Torquay shirt. we lacked belief, confidence, interest or ability. What was tomlinson doing and not for the first time this season failing to put a ball safe and look how that turned out. Stobbs, has lost his early season pace and looked like he wanted to be anywhere but twerton today. Ash cannot play as a stand alone forward, Archer has the confidence of youth but no footballing brain but he seems to get a little better each game.
I wished we had stayed at home and saved our legs for Tuesday because Taunton will be up for it.
You so called players do not deserve the support of the fans , you are a disgrace.

Ok, consider me the preferred bidder for a moment. Now ,I get my accountant and solicitor to go through the accounts and company set up with a very fine tooth comb, considering the previous set uo I would probably pay to have fine combing done twice .That will take a few days. Assuming their are no black holes that havent been disclosed I may consider waiting a week or so to see what league we are in, it will make a huge difference to the overall business plan, staffing etc.
So I am not expecting anything until well into next week or even later.

hector wrote: 12 Apr 2024, 19:22 I have a feeling it was in the Paul Buckle era and possibly involved Jake Robinson. I think Bill Phillips was meant to be involved somehow - perhaps he was the one running up the side of the pitch trying to stop the substitution. As it happened, it didn’t prevent us reaching the play-offs but possibly dropped us down a place.
Cheers ,the fog lifts.

This is not the first time this has happened to us, I remember before the Johnson area the manager whose name escapes me wanted to bring on a sub and the people on the benech were screaming at him the player was eligible, but he went ahead and played him. How long ago did this incident occur, I believe the national league only meet once a month for decision making issues. The club has said we wil make no further comment at this time, hello, step up and give the facts and tell us who messed up and apologise. Stats man we need some new calculations as to points required.

Next season.

Who we would like and who we end up with will be very different fish.
Other than Booth , I think archer has another season, likeways mcgavin, although I do not see him staying.
For me with new owners, a new season approaching I would clean house totally of everyone connected with johnsons regime.
If we could I would start with Ryan Law from truro, he is available at the end of this season, he fits the bill of a fit, fast left back who loves running the wing plus he lives locally.
No matter which way we play it,we cannot have another season of leaking goals for fun, it is embarassing, if we do then no matter how many we score we will still be lurking around the bottom of the league.

Dave_Pougher wrote: 10 Apr 2024, 09:40 On the Torquay Talk forum there’s a suggestion that The Torbay Weekly posted that the Edwards, Hayman bid was the preferred bidders and that was then edited and removed. No great surprise and I do hope it’s wrong but saves me a journey for the last game of the season

I refuse to give my money to an individual that has overseen our demise.
Dave, good morning, as we all wait and feed on scraps to see who are new custodians are may I suggest you get you poet's head back on and update your ditty on Johnson that follows your postings. New owners maybe a new manager and a new beginning.

Trip to bath is the most difficult of the three remaining, havant are relegated and logic dictates tauntons games will catch up with them, I am not sure it is right but on bbc sport, truro are shown playing eastbourne tonight and yeovil tomorrow night, seems a little harsh.
I will hope for a 1-1 at bath.

Two friends at the match last night say they had a natter with Ollie Watkins who had come to watch us, I did tell them they missed an
opportuntiy to get him to have a word with his boss and arrange a pre season friendly at our place.

Spot the difference one is a full back on loan with passion and the other is a Marquis signing ! 🤔
I think you are being a tad hard on Jarvis, the injury he had before christmas could have been a career ender, and he inflamed the same injury a month ago , so I am not surprised for obvious reasons that he is taking it easy, Although I would love him to stay I suspect after the Havant game he will be up the A303 never to be seen again so why jeopardize a decent contract somewhere else for the sake of three games.

knightmaregull wrote: 08 Apr 2024, 20:43 Absolutely true. Hence the club needing to be run sustainably with focus on medium to long term rather than trying to buy immediate success. The post Bateson era has proved this to be needed but still people are knocking TUST and wanting to gamble on Masters, Hayman etc. Crazy!
If my memory is more than partially correct a considerable amount of the money that Thea Bristow invested went into the construction of Bristows bench, a fitting monument no doubt, however I do remember that season we were still in the league but struggling badly, if only half of the cost of bristows had been invested into the team ,well i suspect we would still have been in the league, I do appreciate the old stand had been rightly condemned and what was left was a serious fire hazard but there was no urgency to re build at that time and on such a grandeous level, but it seemed a new stand was more inportant than league survival it has never been full to this day, we could have lived with a three sided ground, look at Oxford united. I suspect she was badly advised by people who took advantage for their own benefit but that seems to be a recurring theme in one form or another where Torquay is concerned.
