Potential Buyers

Mysonjackg wrote: 01 May 2024, 19:07 You two must be such sad individuals to feel the need to spout such nonsense. Have you ever met Nick? The guy has worked his nuts off alongside the TUST team to try and save this club . What the hell have you done?

You should be ashamed of yourselves. An absolute disgrace
I see no reason to slag off Nick or any member of the tust, I am a tust member but do not like the way the attract attention, it does seem at times certain TUST officials consider tthay are more inportant than what they stand for in terms of self publicity, now it seems the TUST have been marginalsed by the bryn consortium.

Bryn Consortium Take-Over

standupsitdown wrote: 01 May 2024, 18:26 Do you know what is contained in the NDAs and do you know how much money TUST have currently and how much they could raise in a share issue?
I do not know what is contained in the agreement but broadly it should mean you say naught, if it doesnt then its not a NDA. I am a member of the TUST but even I would admit they are a very marmite organisation, most of the the TUST board post as just a TUST committee member except Nick who perpetually puts himself forward under his own name. As of last month the TUST had 60K in the bank not including the 5K they got in the fund raiser and slightly less as they decided to be a sponsor for the under 18's final.
If it comes to a share/bond issue by the TUST, we have five known consortium members who will take 94 per cent of the shares, the other six per cent being in private hands, if the TUST wishes to buy a seat at the table and dilute the ownership of the other five we know that the buy in is the region of 150K. Assuming the other five have put in a similar amount.
So everyone who say donates 100 pounds for a bond/share in the TUST offering it is a very slim to nothing chance you would ever see that money again as your share is 1 in 1500 of slightly less than 15 per cent of the shares available.
That is also assuming that the other five consortium memeners permit the shares/bonds to have any value in terms of voting or value retention.

Bryn Consortium Take-Over

Good news on may day, lets see how it pans out, the suggested previous preferred bidder obviously had the cash or else they would not have been in the position of being preferred, did they discover a black hole in the finances, who knows, but we are left with the Bryn group, interestingly neither Traylor Begbie or the local news articles make any mention of TUST involvement. I see nick broderick has said on devon live, we can be that safety net if the bidders cannot get it over the line by the league AGM, possibly to arrange for us to play in the western league as a phoenix club but anything more is just wishful thinking, they have very little cash and their crowd funder failed in a big way.

Until the ownership issue is resolved, and we know what scale of ambition they may, or may not have, it's difficult to know type of manager we'll attract to the club, but then, that would be stating the obvious.
Agree with your comments although not necesarily your choice of manager, Even at our lowly position I think if the role went to applications they would have to be a big paper sift to reduce it to a manageable number.

Torquay Utd under 18

I enjoyed that game today, the young no 7 who decided to do a booth for the first goal, I think he was more shocked than we were judging by the look on his face, I strongly believe that bridgwater had a ringer in their no 10 , tall and built like a second row forward, supposedcly under 18 but he looked at least 25,
I was sat next to a coach from Bristol rovers development squad who was supposedly running the rule over two bridgwater players but he did say he was impressed by our right winger (no17) and one of our central defenders (no4). which worries me a bit as we cannot sign anyone let alone youth team players.

Southampton Gull wrote: 26 Apr 2024, 12:24 And you shouldn't trust Hayman either.....
As a matter of hard facts I know little about edwards other than his association with osborne, similar on hayman, but she has been in place at the club for longer than both the former names, it is not a great leap to think that with both of them in post throughout osborne's reign and his subsquent departure they were ideally placed to not only know about all the debts and creditors and probably more than one skeleton, but also they may have had access to privileged information regarding other bids and bidders.Regardless it is all speculation until we know who the bidders are but edwards and hayman must have been blind, deaf and stupid if they did not see and hear the abuse they got during the Havant match.
If this is to be a clean start then for me they must play no part in the club.

Totally agree, while this forum very occasionally becomes the home of the conspiracy theorists, the deluded or the weirdos from the BTPIR they are ususally shut down very quickly by those with factual knowledge or close conenction to the club with more knowledge than most, on balance it is one of the best football forums I have encountered.

desperado wrote: 18 Apr 2024, 13:40 As much as I like Aaron Downes, I feel if he is told to carry on next season he will try and re- sign as many of the squad as he can. I don't imagine he has a massive amount of contacts either.
Too much of a Johnson influence on his coaching. too.
I think Downes is in a dificult position, yes, he had Johnson weaving his victorian ways of football all over him but I think he is his own man and his comments in pre and post match chats indicate that truth and fact are inportant to him, will he get the job, I do not know, but the likes of Nicholson who has learnt an awful lot in the intervening years and Tim Sills must also be candidates, I hope it doesnt go out for applcations as that will delay any process of squad building that much longer.

FA Cup replays scrapped from next season

TommyGunn wrote: 18 Apr 2024, 12:51 Another lifeline gone for lower league and non league clubs.

Didn't Exeter draw away with Man U and earn a reply to save their bacon?

Traditionally Cup replays have been seen as a chance for smaller clubs to earn substantial extra revenues. League Two side Newport County, who had a fourth-round replay at Wembley against Tottenham in 2017, saw their turnover increase by nearly £1m that season, enough to drag the club into profit. The new changes mean there will be no replays, with all games going to extra time and then penalties.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... ext-season
Interesting read and just goes to show how much power the premier league has over the rest of the UK game, it is total protectionism of the elite, for the sake of a 33 million bribe to the FA, or slightly less than three months wage bill for say man city they have bought the FA.
Longer summer breaks , only benefits the premier darlings on their yachts or earning millions playing friendlies all over the world, for the likes of us,no revenue during the summer and a later start to the season just when we desperate for the cash. No replays, again potentially less money for the likes of us, we get arsenal at home in the third round and manage to hold them at 90 minutes, off to the arsenal stadium for a mega payday, no longer, nothing like keeping the little people down an in their place.

TommyGunn wrote: 17 Apr 2024, 14:38 The departure of Shaun Donnellan seemed to result in a drop off in form in the New Year. I liked Callum Dollan who gave good energy and would shoot on sight.
Completely forgot about Dolan, never went out on loan again after us, he was similar to lapslie but on steroids and a good shot on him, got another two years on his contract with fleetwood and we would be very lucky to get him back on loan.

desperado wrote: 17 Apr 2024, 12:27 Think Lovett is good enough for this league.
Ash can score goals ( 36 in the last two seasons - how many do you want ? )and works hard, but ridiculous playing him on his own up front
He needs a strike partner
Despite people moaning about their legs Hall and Moxey have been excellent in the defence but probably a season too far next year.
Archer could be a big player for us next season as he learns the basics of the game.
Tomlinson will stay and improve.
Like to keep Jarvis but not going to happen.
Jenkins Davies may get another loan here ? he's not ready to move up a level yet.
Agree about ash, he is a typical no 10 who cannot thrive without a big no 9, Moxey defo keep, who would have thought he was one of our top regular starters, his experience will be essential, Hall, keep him on a playercontract but have him as assistant coach under any new set up, we get two for one and will reduce costs. Mcgavin, arguably the most talented player in the squad but also the most frustrating, needs too much space and time to make things happen and when he is man marked its like playing with only 10. Tomlinson please no , the only thing he achieves each game is making the other defenders nervous, he has had two seasons to improve and hasn't. Craske if he recovers should get another season, Archer, yep every game improving, if he can focus that energy into footballing brain power he is going to be a good un, Dawson, yes, keep but only on a pay for play deal, Lapslie, keep for his energy but needs another larger version of himself in the middle to stop attacks,
Martin, acheampong, Marshall, tomlinson, stobbs, collins have not justified their salaries this season so they can go for me.

Reflections on the 23/24 season

Other than this saturday's carnival atmosphere game which for all I have no doubt will be more in relief than anything else, I wonder how this season went so horribly wrong, we were short odds to be champions or at the least honourable runners up, no one to touch us, full time squad, too many good players for this league.
What the heck happened, everyone will have a view, was it just Osborne being the owner, be honest the season was down the toilet before christmas and well before he pulled the plug.
Johnson for me should have left at the end of the previous season and rightly we would have remembered him fondly as one of our better managers. His reputaion would have remained largely intact but he so completely mismanaged this season to the extent his reputation no longer exists, all due to his out of date attitudes to football, a single way of playing and stupid ill conceived comments that caused the fan base to rise up as one, it became toxic.
His experience alone should have told him after the opening few games against part timers this league had yet again improved, and he needed a fresh game plan but we saw he was incapable of that even allowing for the fact that he wasnt starting from scratch, he had a good cohort of experienced players that had played for a season together, whether several of them should be in the pro game at all is still open to debate. We knew by end of september we needed additions in the forward and backline department, his logic was to stuff the team with midfielders and ask players to play out of position, our best two players by a country mile this season were both loans and at left back position.
Injuries , yet another season plagued by long term and repeat injuries but we seem to have suffered more than most, was this because we signed injury prone players, signed players that have struggled to play 10 games in a season , all this ultimately meant was that those that played week in week out were in the main bench warmers.
Next season, all I ask is that we bring in players who can manage 40 games, have the heart of lapslie, the non stop game of archer and please a back four that does not concede nearly two goals every game, will it happen, who knows , its Torquay.

United62 wrote: 17 Apr 2024, 10:07 Now that our league safety is secured, I'm sure the club would NOW love to tell us who our new owner(s) is/are.
If only it was that simple, there may be a confidentiality clause between buyer and club until they have done due diligence.
