Torquay United v Wealdstone 30/3/19

brucie wrote: 30 Mar 2019, 23:21 I wasn't there but I can't see the point of congratulating Wealdstone to be honest.

We were 2-0 and 3-1 up and missed a penalty for 4-1 - could have been a turning point perhaps as they got a goal back but had we scored the penalty its probably another shellacking. In fact given that we hit the post at 3-2 were Wealdstone really that unlucky?

Since the fluke result against Weston we've gone to Billericay and won emphatically. We've beaten Dartford emphatically despite playing with ten men for 80 minutes in a monsoon. We've gone to Concord Rangers and beaten the team with the best home record in the division. Today we've beaten the team with the best away record in the league.

What this suggests to me is we are by far the best team in the division and are deservedly top. Chelmsford will be a hard game but theres every chance they are going to go the same way as the aforementioned teams - nothing to fear and everything to gain.
Except the referee, eh brucie ?

When will we be crowned Champions??

Kingsgull83 wrote: 29 Mar 2019, 18:38 Is anyone brave enough to predict if and when we may be crowned champions?
This may be a bold topic but I’m just putting it out there with results going our way last weekend and Woking having a tough game Saturday is it to soon to dream???

Here we go I am going for us needing to get a win at home against Eastbourne to clinch the title. I think we will go from strength to strength and Woking are going to implode...

COYY #daretodream 😂
Try composing a sentence including the words 'count' 'chickens' and 'hatched' and then think what will be all over your face if Woking do not implode and are crowned champions instead …..

Teigngull wrote: 19 Mar 2019, 15:13 Yes Exeter are 'the model club's but let's not forget where they were before the 2 Man U games !
And where would we be if we could've beaten Crawley that fateful day ?
A roll reversal more than likely, we were one f.a cup win away from salvation.
As for the fan ownership, I get what you mean but there's no getting away from the fact the bookie & his mates found it tough, they were screwed over by a few & some of them realised before it was too late & pulled out.
Whilst it was an admiral thing to do by trying to save the club from administration, are we any worse off now ?
I don't think so. Fan ownership is fine if you have the backing in numbers, I don't think we have, I think it's a non starter for TUFC & CO knows it.
'A roll reversal' - what's with the gymnastics?

The 'admiral thing' may have worked if they had shown the Nelson touch but it was more like turning a blind eye.

However, your last sentence is pretty accurate. Last season I was pilloried (as usual) for suggesting that fans would prefer to follow a team succeeding in a lower division rather than struggling at a higher level, yet the attendances this season and the general comments on the forum do bear this out. Unfortunately, either way, TUFC is unlikely to be able to generate sufficient income from its (relatively small) fanbase to satisfy the aspirations of those fans, so the club is therefore always likely to be at the mercy of the benevolence and competence of its owner. Whilst an occasional windfall from a big cup-tie is welcome, it can only be a short term fix which staves off the routine financial struggle for a while. I am sure that you are capable of drawing your own conclusions regarding the benevolence and competence of the current owner (and his predecessors) but there is no real evidence that a fan owned TUFC would be any more stable, successful or secure.

Trojan 67 wrote: 17 Mar 2019, 08:29 Thanks go to standupsitdown and culmstockgull for ignoring the forum pedant-phile and bringing the thread back on topic.

Would arrywithsh*tforbrains like to contribute a football related post to this thread or does your sick perversion preclude that?

Thanks go to a trusted Friend of TorquayFans.com who assisted in revealing the identity of the serial offender.
Yet another moronic post from a worm who cannot take a little bit of hectoring but that's only to be expected from someone who was stupid enough to lose everything on a horse. What does the 67 signify? Is it your attention span in seconds or the number of words in the English language that you understand?

In response to your request for a football related post I would suggest that you ignore anything that your trusted Friend of TorquayFans.com might say as they are obviously as ignorant as you, which would indicate that the future is bleak if they typify the fans who would attempt to resurrect a potential phoenix Torquay football club. However, it would be interesting to know what the current views of genuine Swindon speedway fans are, regarding Clarke Osborne and Gaming International, as their situation seems to have been similar to that of TUFC and could be indicative of what is in store for Plainmoor. I would expect Osborne has reason to consider that he does have some security for his financial investment and as such that security may be detrimental to the future of TUFC, but he may have transformed into a benevolent philanthropist. Perhaps, Trojan, you know whether it is wise to beware Greeks bearing gifts …..

In that case you should be removed from the forum and not be permitted to return until you learn to spell the first person personal pronoun correctly. (Genuine adults know how to use the key marked 'Shift'.)

dawlishmatt wrote: 14 Mar 2019, 10:11 Hi Teigngull. I have supported Torquay United for over 45 years, when Mike mahoney ( probably spelt wrong) was our keeper. I am 54 years old now and I went to school in torquay and used to skip school several times to travel on the supporters coach to midweek away games. Yesterday I tried to work out how many away grounds I've been too and came up with 83. I've been to Blackpool, Workington, Carlisle, Macclesfield, Southport, Chester, man City, Old Trafford, Stockport, Hartlepool, Scarborough Hull ( both grounds) Doncaster, the last ever match at the old scunthorpe ground ( Mark loram scored a cracker), Bolton, York and dozens of others. I even have walked to plainmoor 7 times from Dawlish on a boxing day when there has been no public transport. I'm not looking for a medal but I just want to point out my commitment to the club. I even worked in the old caravan cafe serving customers at the Babacombe end, sold match day programmes and even sold lottery tickets for the club. My suspicions are that you probably don't attend most games

It's not that I feel superior to you and I certainly haven't been hit on any raw nerves: I just love bursting balloons. When you (or Merse or Brucie or whoever) pontificates as though they are the fount of all knowledge it's fun to have a verbal tennis match (nothing personal or malicious) and when personal abuse starts flying around (with or without a feck) I am quite happy to stand my ground. I felt quite sorry for poor dawlishmatt when you launched into him as though you were leading the Charge of the Light Brigade, merely because he made a minor spelling mistake. It seemed like Sgt-Major Teigngull of the Word Police was seeking the Death Penalty for a parking offence, which would hardly be excusable even if your own use of the English language was on a par with that of an Oxbridge Professor of Literature. When your own posts would benefit from some surreptitious proof reading it seemed reasonable to observe that you were exemplifying the adage regarding pots and kettles but it's just bants, Old Bird, just bants .....

Teigngull wrote: 12 Mar 2019, 17:35 If you read my post back, there was no attempt to quote your name sir, it was an attempt to describe the image emblazoned in my mind that I hold you in by calling you Mr no brain. Any resemblance to your chosen moniker is purely coincidental.
Your obvious narcissistic arrogance becomes you sir.
As usual you do not comprehend plain English and consequently fail to appreciate the irony of your self contradictions. However, I do appreciate you dipping your toe in Greek mythology in an attempt to improve the imagery of your vocabulary: at least you are trying to use real words rather than Neanderthal grunts and onomatopoeic euphemisms.

Teigngull wrote: 12 Mar 2019, 15:32 I don't give a flying feck what your opinion of me is Mr no brain !, it's common decency to get an individual's name correct if you're going to talk about them in these forums, no matter what your opinion is of them, I would of thought you would be shouting it from the roof tops my man, after you're so readily keen to put grammatical errors correct with others, don't you think ?
Only using quotes from posts that you have made! It is obviously stupid and hypocritical to berate others for failing "to get an individual's name correct" when you are incapable of such "common decency" yourself: I don't really mind you abbreviating my name by omitting the 'Arrywith' but to insert an unnecessary space between 'no' and 'brain' is absolutely unforgivable. If your post was more comprehensible then it is possible that I might give you more credence, but how can anyone be taken seriously when they employ the word 'of' as a verb and use nonsensical words like 'feck(in)' and 'twot'?

As a paying supporter I'm allowed to voice my opinion.
Don't take it personally - there are a lot of 'grumpy old men' on this forum who take exception on principle to anyone new. In a country where free speech is permitted you don't even have to be a paying supporter to be allowed to voice your opinion, although in Torquay you must surely be a troll from another club if you can't remember Eric Webber or Bill Towers .........
