Mike Fondop - Remember him?

budegull1954 wrote: 14 Oct 2017, 16:34 Just goes to prove my posting earlier in the week that ex-Gulls players always seem to do better when they leave Torquay.
Also scored for Guiseley, KN got us in this shit with his poor player judgement amongst many other failings.

Mike Fondop - Remember him?

Yes he looked good but the opposition was non-league... perhaps Gray is just not the type of player that Owers wants? Although I mean Murphy has hardly set the world on fire. Yes lets see how he get's on.

Arrywithnobrain wrote: 14 Oct 2017, 12:38 The rather hysterical and 'flouncy' "Oh Christ, he's having a go at Gowling now, I don't know whether to laugh or cry" is what drew my attention as if no-one can be identified as being at fault with something that goes wrong.

Gowling clearly was very poor in both of those goals conceded last week and I'm sure he would be the first to admit it. I agree he is a superior player to those who have preceded him in his position; a better footballer and retainer of the ball ~ something that the side has been crying out for over a prolonged period of time ~ but he is not infallible and neither is anyone else in that squad!

There are 635 more square yards of space on that huge Aldershot pitch than comparatively tiny Plainmoor on which the defence were so badly caught out last week ~ Aldershot: 117x75 yds set against Plainmoor's 110x74 so the sort of alarming gaps and spaces evident then will only be exasperated if they play in the same manner today and Aldershot certainly do play a brand of football that mamixises those wide open spaces as you and I both saw when we went there earlier in the season Dave!

On the other hand; can Owers and Kuhl get them to drop the ball into the spaces behind Aldershot's defence if they can turnover possession after they have played the ball out in their inimitable style?

Oh Merse - it is a shame that whilst you are talking out of your arse most of the time, you do not use the English language correctly to do so, as it enhances the impression that you do not know what you are talking about: it is very difficult to envisage "exasperated" gaps and spaces so perhaps you could enlighten us as to what they are, in the same dogmatic manner in which you comment on matches that you have not seen.
Bless you...

Last weekend against Dover their CB must have headed the ball straight back about 20 times from McGinty's aimless distribution.

Will be interesting to see how Mike Fondop does for Guiseley, rejected by KN pre-season.

Gowling hands in transfer request

forevertufc wrote: 03 Oct 2017, 22:53 I don't know whether this is true or not, but, out of all the players who started the season, Gowling has been the only one to show he's truly and fully committed to the cause. His reaction after the game showed he is still fully committed to the cause, and suggested this rumour is a load of old cockwobble.
Yep that committed that he ball watched for both goals against Dover...

Trojan 67 wrote: 13 Oct 2017, 08:22 While some on here (not all) are "ball watching" after Gowling fails to put in a headed challenge, I'm watching the player Gowling was marking head straight for the penaltly area while Gowling flounders ball watching. That is of equal concern. I do hope Owers/Kuhl and the gang have seen this and get down on it. :-D
This is true, watch the Goals and watch Gowling... it baffles me how there can even be someone questioning this... Gowling was poor!

merse btpir wrote: 11 Oct 2017, 10:50 I would agree; those who are fit for purpose are not performing in a fit for purpose manner either; and the very experienced management will now it is either 'them or us' if this continues.

Weak challenges, lack of resolve to maintain and win possession; stop and block crosses and balls coming through unchallenged from opposition goalkeeper to the back of our net are rife amongst this squad and it all has to stop because that is why they are bottom of the league.

Some players are clearly unfit for purpose and others are letting the supporters, the club and themselves down because whilst they have the attributes they clearly do not have either the desire or pride in themselves to perform even adequately.
Frustrates me as in most other professions you would be reprimanded if you did not perform to a minimum set standard, just seems that footballers can pretty much do what they want whilst under contract. Who writes these contracts? Can they not introduce KPI's that if consistently not met then internal disciplinary measures would be taken?

St Lukes Cup vs Cullompton Rangers

forevertufc wrote: 20 Sep 2017, 21:47 Buckland Athletic played a second string team and lost 8.0 at Tiverton, is this because, they know the importance of not risking injury to their key players in a meaningless competition, when promotion is their main aim, is it also, because they know the importance of giving squad players who haven't played yet some pitch time, I guess so.

Had Owers played a full strength side last night and won, yet we'd lost Dorel, Young and say McGinty to injury, what would some have said then ? We have bigger fish to fry, picking up a win v Cullompton would have meant jack shat as far as confidence is concerned, right now, keeping the fit players we have left fit, is going to be key.

Owers clearly took the decision to use this match, to have look at a couple players he hadn't seen play in a match, and run the rule over a couple of potential signings, sounds like a fair decision to me.

Looking at the age and experience of some of the players who played, to then suggest they should have won this game easily is wide of the mark.
