New signing Rhys Healey

You’re right about Keating Teigngull, he would always give you 110% but just lacked that knack of being in the right place at the right time or he’d miss when it’s easier to score. Either way I don’t think we’ll be seeing him for the rest of this season or after the summer.

Solihull Moors v Torquayunited 17/3/18

I’ll be up there on Saturday to cheer on the boys. Although I’m quite confident we’re done for I still think a win will spark that little bit of excitement in us all that maybe just maybe there’s another Great Escape on the cards!

Maidenhead v Torquayunited 10/2/18

fred wrote: 10 Feb 2018, 21:31 Really good day out today. Friendly club, unsegregated proves it can be done at football matches. Their stewards/rules could certainly teach ours a thing or two. Good performance from the team who actually look like a team as last! Great away support.4 points from safety but a few games in hand for those around us. All we can do is keep winning! Gutted if Romain is unavailable next week.
I take it you didn’t see the fist fight that broke out after our second goal in the Maidenhead end? A Torquay fan who was in there getting some friendly stick at 1-1 “who the **** hell are you?” And other chants around those lines. We score, he celebrates then all I see is punches being thrown and people being dragged away by stewards and police. In my opinion while there’s idiots who want to punch one another for supporting and celebrating their team scoring we need segregation, fair enough if Boreham Wood brought their 3 away fans then you wouldn’t bother but we brought 300ish which is a lot more than most other teams take I imagine.

Maidenhead v Torquayunited 10/2/18

Very good win, scrappy performance and far from perfect but the win was all that mattered on that pitch! It was cutting up from just the warm ups.

Dorel in my opinion was man of the match, he made 3 or 4 top quality saves which kept us from going behind and I don’t feel if we had gone behind we would’ve got anything out of today!

A very happy Gull! Come on you Yellows

Torquay United v Barrow 3/2/18

Although I’m a firm believer in it isn’t over until it’s mathematically impossible, if we lose this game we are done. For the first time in our 3rd ‘great escape’ I don’t believe we will get out of it. Nicho had a bit about him to get the players to perform in these type of huge game, like Dover away last season. I don’t see that with Owers, he’s out of his depth and I think the dressing room know that too.

Score prediction;

TUFC:1
Barrow:3

Guiseley v Torquay United

Time for the players to stand up and be counted. Tuesday night they were terrible defensively, Boreham had pacey players and the back 4 were too tight and turned slower than a freight tanker. I don't know of Guiesley's strike options this year but if they are pacey and we defend the same way again it will be another loss.

Still though, another part time team, another defeat.

Guiseley 3 (1)
Torquay 1 (0)

Management options

We need an experienced manager who's been around the block and has contacts. We aren't in a wealthy area of the country, why would London, Birmingham or any other big city based players want to up sticks and move to Devon when they can join the likes of Boreham, Solihull or something similar for more or less the same money and not even move house just possibly increase their commute.

I just don't think an inexperienced manager gamble is enough because that's exactly their nature, it's a gamble but one we cannot afford to take. Yes you can look at the likes of Danny Cowley who took Braintree to the play offs in then Lincoln to the FL with a good cup run but who honestly expected a school teacher from Essex to do that. It's too hit or miss for our situation.

I don't know off the top of my head any experienced managers who are available but there must be some surely!

Nicholson sacked 17/08

I feel like any good feeling, as small as it was, that GI managed to get with the new kits, new badge and slight increase to the playing budget has gone. Yes the first 4 games have been poor barring the Tranmere game and maybe even the Aldershot game where they showed a fighting spirit to get one back after going 2 behind and having a goal in my opinion wrongly not given where last season they may have put their heads down and that's that. Getting any points at Aldershot which was one of the hardest grounds to go to last season would've been a good result.

4 games is not a barrameter of how a season will go and we don't have our full strength side yet. Davis isn't back yet and Gowling and Lee are out also. I think 10 games would have been fair, if it was still the same rubbish then you've got 36 games to rectify.

On a personal note, Kevin Nicholson is the only manager i have ever seen feel so strongly for a club and have immense pride everyday he was manager. It may just be my yellow tinted glasses but I always hoped he would take us back into the FL and fully believed with backing and patience he would do so.

The next step is finding his replacement, I think if we want to be in the football league then we find a football league manager. Someone who has been there and done it, maybe with something to prove if they've been dismissed elsewhere. Which in this day and age doesn't necessarily mean they're a bad manager just that their face didn't fit for the board at that club.

Season Cards/Tickets

Reception and Club Shop now combined which seems to make sense.

Handed a letter of appreciation signed by the General Manager for buying a season ticket!
Could turn out to be a very clever move if they can generate more merchandise sales from it especially now as it is club owned.

Rory Fallon

As has been said previously, there is surely a young target man in a football league or premier league club youth setup who is available?

It's a zero risk move, more than likely we wouldn't pay any of his wage and if it doesn't work out then you send him back. Fallon is a risk no doubt about it, injury prone, couldn't hit a barn door and would take money away from our playing budget which could be spent elsewhere.

Plymouth Parkway

brooker wrote: 26 Jul 2017, 10:46 It was a good game to watch actually. Bolitho Park is a nice little ground, and Parkway were up for it from the off, the tackles flying in all over the pitch; Tallan Mitchell was absolutely clattered in the first minute, they obviously decided to stick one on him early. There didn't seem to be a huge amount of Gulls who had made the trip, we were next to some Parkway fans, who instantly pointed out Austen Booth (Torquay triallist), who had been on loan there from Truro towards the tail end of last season. He stood out as one of our better players; good on the ball, composed for a young defender, and agressive in the air and in the tackle. Sam Chaney also stood out in a wide attacking role, taking people on and moving the ball quickly. I heard a few Parkway supporters at half time name him as the best player on the park.

Despite Parkway's spirited battling, Torquay started to gain the upper hand, a few successive chances culminating in a through ball leaving Reid one on one with their keeper. All he had to do was make some kind of contact with the ball to score, but instead tried a trick to take it around the keeper, forgetting to take the ball with him as he did so. Parkway were a goal up from the resulting play. Quick distribution by their keeper was followed by a few simple passes up the pitch which sliced us apart, a diagonal ball put their striker in on goal, and he wrong footed Osborn with a soft shot.

Special mention in the first half goes to Rory Fallon, who did almost nothing. Even when he won the ball in the air his headers were tame, looping, off target etc. He's never been blessed with pace, but on one occasion when the ball was played for him to turn and run onto, he was beaten to it by a couple of players from either side, all of whom he had a considerable head start on. If we take him on after that showing it will be through desperation alone.

The second half saw us bring on 4 or 5 of our first 11, but was killed by Parkway solidly protecting their lead. We looked short of ideas up top, and didn't even play a single ball in behind, having brought on Pittman for Fallon. We found ourselves level in the last minute of the game, with a really clever set piece, played along the floor around the outside (left) of the wall, Pittman got there first, put a cross in with his first touch, and Gowling headed home from the edge of the six yard box. A fair result all round, and we looked good up until the final third, where a lack of cutting edge still seems to be our biggest vice.
Thank you Brooker, very good match report!

How did Tallan Mitchell react to that clattering? That will show the kind of character he is, no doubt the young man has talent but you need grit when you are his size. I'm glad Booth played well I know we have sufficient cover in defence but he could be one for the future, possible sign and loan out situation? Thought he played well in his other appearance in pre season but the opponent I can't remember.

It's welcoming news that we have some form of tactics from set pieces. Too many times you see it just looped into the box and the 6ft defender for the other team just lumps it away.

I find it strange they didn't supply any kind of coverage for the game other than kick off, half time and full time on the Twitter feed.
