Fleetwood United champions UAE second division.

Other clubs moving forward with new ideas to increase revenue while at Torquay :-/ Shhhhhhhhhh don't tell em.

“We are trying to find those players from parts of the world like Senegal or Canada then potentially send them to England or Ireland if they are good enough.”

Trading players is a big part of the business plan. It is needed for a club like Fleetwood.

CornishGull wrote: 24 Apr 2024, 12:02 That sounds like Mel and Ian Hayman then. Whether it not or it includes Edwards is anyone guess given the radio silence coming out of Plainmoor. But then again is the source for this rumour accurate? The local press have hardly covered themselves in glory in the past.
Exactly. I just about lost patience with all this.

We don't appear to have any proper journalists in the South West investigating the fortunes of Torquay United. Why don't they ask the people who have been mentioned as potential owners so we can eliminate them?

All they seem to print are rumours from social media or even news from this forum. Lazy and piss poor journalism.

I think we all suspect from the lack of news who the people involved are. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm reading in the rules that we need to submit a PSB pre season budget by the 14th of June.

I really hope all this is being sorted out right now. I really think Osborne has dropped us right in it and given us a near impossible task. :@

I think we may be able to start under a sort of supervision if we can't provide a pre season budget in time. Which means starting under a player embargo and paying a bond upfront
I read somewhere else in the rules about max of 16 non contract players and only 1 goalkeeper. Having to apply for permission to bring in a loan to cover each injury etc.

Isn't there an embargo in operation until we come out of administaration to the satisfaction of the national league?

Gateshead kicked out of National league playoffs

Due to the council not granting them 10 years tenure of ground as per EFL rules. Bastards :red:

happytorq wrote: 22 Apr 2024, 16:10 "bitcoin club" seems like a hiding to nothing, honestly, because that $4.5m could be worth half that next year (equally, could be twice as much; crypto is a little bit too volatile and opaque for my tastes).

Bedford is going to be very well placed to grow as a town in the next 5-10 years, though. The Universal Studios theme park hasn't been officially confirmed yet (still very much in the planning phase) but if it happens they'll see a huge influx of visitors, *and* it's fair to assume that there will be a lot of peope moving close by for work.
Well I wish they were investing in us. We need some news fast! 8 weeks to go to the AGM?

I know Bedford quite well and it's a commutor town 45 mins London and on the planning arc of towns from Oxford -Milton Keynes -Bedford to Cambridge. New expressways and rail lines. There will be a lot of well paid work in these areas and seems a shewd move. And of course Bedford has a non league football history. They were for many years in what is now the national league until the brewery evicted them from a rather nice stadium.

Gemini founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, have just invested $4.5m (about £3.6m) into Bedford town who intend to become a football league club within 10 years This is just the sort of investment Torquay need
.

The Bitcoin podcast owner of a non-league football club has said a county town where it is based can "support a team in the Premier League".

Peter McCormack, who comes from Bedford, said "patience" was needed to get "Real Bedford" into the top flight.

He took over Bedford FC in 2021 and on Tuesday secured a second successive promotion and will compete in the Southern League Division One Central next season, which is the eighth tier of the English football league pyramid.

He said with plans for Universal Studios to open a theme park in the area, the town "is only going to get bigger".

Mr McCormack said the club was "relentless about success" and "we're trying to build a club for the football league".

He said he was trying to do "something different" and create an international brand.

"We're seen as the Bitcoin club and if you're a Bitcoiner anywhere in the world you will be aware of our club," he said.

He said because of that it has access to sponsors, including Gemini founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, who have just invested $4.5m (about £3.6m) into the club, to become co-owners.

"Everything is on track... having them as co-owners is a gift to the town," he said.

"Our ambition is big; we want to approach this professionally, do it right and that means investing in the club."

He said it was making a profit and has two audiences - people in Bedford who "want to support a team and are excited by the project"

Gemini founders Cameron and Tyler Winkl ... e bigger".

The other is its US fanbase, which he said was 60-70% of the total, who are able to watch live coverage on streaming services.

The club's McMullen Park ground, just off the A421 near Cardington and right next to Bedford Town's ground, is owned by Bedford Borough Council and the lease runs out in two years.

Mr McCormack said he was negotiating an extension, but the long-term plan was to move "somewhere bigger".

Stoneybroke wrote: 19 Apr 2024, 23:44 Regarding the new owners of Torquay United

I hope I'm wrong...but I think if they are a complete new team with no previous connections to TUFC, then surely an announcement should be made before tomorrow's game .

Looking Ahead

No-one at Plainmoor can pretend that 2023/24 has gone how we would have wanted or planned, and amid the celebrations and relief shown in Somerset was the determination that this night will go on to serve as a springboard for future success.

Although securing our status in the division was an achievement in itself, given the setbacks and uncertainty of the past three months, Torquay United AFC is a Club that continues to aspire to play its football much higher up the footballing ladder, and with you, the supporters, firmly behind us, we will continue to strive towards the success we all crave. No supporters throughout the land deserve it more.

Last week, the Club announced that a preferred bidder to take over the club had been identified, and we are pleased to inform supporters that discussions are continuing regarding concluding the sale. As soon as we are able to provide a further update regarding the purchasing process, we will, of course, update our supporters accordingly.

In the meantime, we thank you for your continued support & patience, and most of all, for standing with us.

There’s every reason to be optimistic about the future. :-/

FA Cup replays scrapped from next season

Another lifeline gone for lower league and non league clubs.

Didn't Exeter draw away with Man U and earn a reply to save their bacon?

Traditionally Cup replays have been seen as a chance for smaller clubs to earn substantial extra revenues. League Two side Newport County, who had a fourth-round replay at Wembley against Tottenham in 2017, saw their turnover increase by nearly £1m that season, enough to drag the club into profit. The new changes mean there will be no replays, with all games going to extra time and then penalties.

What about Luke Garrard as Torquay manager? Did well for wood for a few years but had a poor season this time around.

It is with deep regret, and huge sadness, that Boreham Wood Football Club can announce we will part company with our long-serving Manager Luke Garrard after our last game of this season against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday, April 20th.

Wood Chairman Danny Hunter said, “This advance announcement is made with a very heavy heart on my part, and because of Luke’s service I want his departure to be dignified, respectful and honest. That is very important because he should not be remembered for one disastrous season but for his volume of work over so many seasons.

“I remind those amongst us who think a Manager should be sacked every time a club has a bad run, that if I adopted your policy Luke would have gone many times and because I was patient and he was supported, we created magic moments, and look over the years what we’ve achieved together.”

Reflections on the 23/24 season

The departure of Shaun Donnellan seemed to result in a drop off in form in the New Year. I liked Callum Dollan who gave good energy and would shoot on sight.
