Bath Away jan 19th

gateman49 wrote: 21 Jan 2019, 21:18 Handbags?

After our first goal it looked as if there was an organised fistfight across the barrier. That was thuggery. In addition possession of a flare at a football ground is a criminal offence with a possible prison sentence of up to three months.
A Liverpool fan being left brain damaged is thuggery. Leeds supporters getting knifed to death is thuggery. What I saw on Saturday was pissed up twats throwing air punches over a fence. Not condoning it but use perspective.

Flares were being lit in the city centre as soon as the fans got off the train. If they had one police officer in the city centre, which they did not, the club could have been aware. Again, not condoning but bath knew well in advance how many were coming and, like WSM, chose not to treat it as a higher risk game.

Just the presence of a few police would have nipped all of that on the bud

Just having a couple of shandies of course !! I didn't travel up on the train either where several had drinks aplenty. I believe the police were on the train back.
I was on that train and I believe it was because there was Torquay and Exeter supporters on the same train, as they had been playing at Newport.

There was no trouble at the station or on the train back and the police got off at Taunton.

In fact, apart from the handbags in the corner after the first couple of goals, I didn't see any trouble and thought the atmosphere was, generally, cracking.

Boreham Wood v Torquay

Teigngull wrote: 16 Dec 2018, 22:10
Really ? You base you argument on the fact that because we & the other ex league clubs deserve to be in the football league is because we can attract bigger crowds than the likes of Boreham wood ?
If you take a look at our so called big crowds whilst in the football league, you'll find we're one of the worst supported ( numbers wise )
If you look at our average attendance in the last 40 odd years as a football league / non league club (1973-2014) :-

Year. Ave Att. Pos out of 92.
1973 3235. 80/92. 1991. 2987. 78/92. 2009. 2243. Conference
1974 3312 76/92. 1992. 2734. 85/92. 2010. 2856. 85/92
1975 2788 81/92. 1993. 2695. 85/92. 2011. 2631. 87/92
1976 2481 85/92. 1994. 3437. 74/92. 2012. 2869. 84/92
1977 2927 83/92. 1995. 2973. 80/92. 2013. 2709. 86/92
1978 2859 85/92. 1996. 2438. 84/92. 2014. 2642. 88/92
1979 2662 86/92. 1997. 2289. 86/92. 2015. 1949. National league Premier
1980 3174 82/92. 1998. 2679. 83/92. 2016. 1803. --------- " " ---------
1981 2050 90/92. 1999. 2600. 87/92 2017. 1888 --------- " " ---------
1982 2248 85/92. 2000. 2555. 90/92. 2018. 1731. --------- " " ---------
1983 2336 81/92. 2001. 2556. 89/92
1984 1992 87/92. 2002. 2563. 90/92
1985 1386 91/92. 2003. 3132. 87/92
1986 1240 92/92. 2004. 3460. 87/92
1987 1777 90/92. 2005. 3511. 85/92
1988 3005 74/92. 2006. 2851. 87/92
1989 2547 86/92. 2007. 2633. 86/92
1990 2134 89/92. 2008. 3125. Conference

We are consistently in the bottom 10 of attendance figures & since 1973 our attendances have virtually shrunk by half , Stockport, York, Hereford, Wrexham, Orient, Hartlepool, Chesterfield etc could all have the same argument they should have more rights than Boreham wood & us .
It is sad we're where we've ended up but size has nothing to do with it. It's how you run your club that matters & all of the 'ex league clubs' now in the National league system have had issues that's why we're here with them, not because the size of our crowds.
Jesus, you must have had nothing to do today..

Against Billericay, first half we not only deserved the two goal lead but then come the second half it felt like Owers was back in charge and we tried to sit on our lead again doing it badly.

fred wrote: 01 Nov 2018, 22:54 So I was at Fulham Bournemouth on Saturday with 25,000 others and no problems at all! Walked backed to Putney bridge train station with both sets of fans, no problems!!! So forward wind to Tuesday night to a national League south match between WSM and Torquay and and the only thing people are talking about is a few idiots that caused trouble. Wherever you go, a pub, club, football match there will be a few who's only intension is to cause trouble. Who's to blame? In my opinion WSM were absolutely not prepared for the size of crowd, in terms of facilities or stewarding! Unfortunately people will take advantage of this. As for the 'trouble' did anyone really feel their safety was threatened in the ground. I certainly did not.
100% correct on both counts - it was hardly Green Street!!!

Jesus, they even tried to stop people going for a piss during the game. One "steward" I saw was up late for a school night.

You are always going to get idiots in an away crowd of over a thousand. Proper crowd management was required and clearly lacking. That's why it's relevent
P.S if you think that's atrocious, you clearly weren't at the Cardiff and wolves home games in the 80's :)

Kernowgull wrote: 01 Nov 2018, 19:58 Westons shambolic match arrangements are irrelevant, a) they will probably never face that size away crowd again, and b) I managed to behave like a normal bloke trying to watch a football match in spite of the arrangements, so therefore it wasn't the arrangements that caused the behaviour. Some people seem to be downplaying the behaviour, but it really was atrocious in parts. If a bigger club came to Plainmoor and acted in that way we would be up in arms.

I agree entirely we have injuries, but Weston are hardly fielding super stars. Having gone Wealdstone on Saturday, the players set a high standard which regrettably they didn't deliver last night. My sense of perspective is clearly different from yours, the players let everyone down last night and as a result they have put themselves under considerable pressure on Saturday to deliver against the Essex circus.

The fact they could not put two good performances together is the reason why they are NLS players. Playing poorly, which we did, and avoiding defeat is a good habit.

Come April/May, we'll be ok

culmstockgull wrote: 31 Oct 2018, 19:57 In response to last night minor outbreaks of disorder if there is a league enquiry then by the time that get round to our part in the proceedings they will have got bored with the whole saga, the total lack of proper stewarding, the ones I saw looked like they needed a good meal and were scared of the dark, the lack of a police presence at what could be considered a local derby and when they did show up were as much use as a chocolate teapot. The ability to wander where and when you liked were always a recipe for disorder, the WSM goalie could not of complained if he ended up wearing that dustbin for all his goading.
I spent ten years watching West ham, when I say that most weekends even with the presence of 200 plus coppers and a similar amount of very large and capable stewards who you would not wish to meet on a dark night there was still pitched battles most Saturdays, the single brain cell supporter were greatly in evidence and it seems football continues to attract such people like a magnet, and we like every other club have our share, the only difference with ours that as a group they share a brain cell.
I watched the Truro Billericay game in August and they didn't bring many supporters but the ones they did were mainly of the eye in the middle of the forehead and knuckles that dragged across the ground variety, they were rude, offensive and if they could have found any supporters to wind up they would have been a right good punch up . If they turn up on Saturday then our stewards will be in for a busy afternoon.
