Ex-Gull watch

What happened to the Kalala contract dispute? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sport ... alala.html

Where is he now? I know some days he basically wouldn’t show up but when he switched on he had some magic

Another one who I think will do reasonably well under different management

Away Kit?

On the plus side it’s great to be using a local supplier for the kit, VX3 are based in Paignton.

Away Kit?

One concern with these pastel coloured and odd designs is how well can the players see each other on the pitch, notably in poor visibility. Bolder colours and designs are easier to pick out from a playing perspective.
Valid concern - I remember when Man Utd changed their kit at half time many years ago because of this issue.

Some of these feel like they are designed to create an optical illusion - perhaps it can work in reverse when our strikers end up in the box in stealth mode thanks to the kit 😂

I hope the players at least train in the gear and provide this feedback before settling on a design, there is a likely a reason why other clubs haven’t gone fancy with designs.

Ross Marshall

It’s frustrating as when I saw Marshall against Weymouth I thought he was starting to show a bit more maturity and responsibility. If only he could channel the grit that underpins whatever leads to his poor disciplinary record then he could be a stronger player. At least compared to others there is some ‘dog’ in the fight, though it’s untenable to have a record like this.

As regards to the GK conversation, Halstead on his day can be the best in the division, and on others can cost us games. I’ve always rated Lovett and would consider giving him a shot in the run in, he seems a little more vocal too which I think is needed right now!

Torquay re-take the lead due to a massive clanger from WSM keeper.

2 goal home lead thrown away, unfortunately predictable.

3 “centre backs” is NOT working and Tomlinson should not start another game until he gets the basics in place.

This is absolutely dire.

Try something like this

Halstead
Boyd Marshall Booth Moxey
Stobbs Lapsie Dawson Ash
Jarvis Duane

I’ve lost track who’s fit and who’s sidelined

“Are you Johnson in disguise?”

Downes is a long term Gulls hero and I respect the challenge he is facing but unfortunately he has continued the run of poor tactical decisions and has not yet rallied the mentality required to perform on the pitch.

In many respects the issues off the pitch and sentiment directed at GJ has meant that individual players have perhaps escaped the kind of scrutiny that is required.

Unfortunately there are several players who are not up to or not ready for the level we’re at. Last night Tomlinson was a weak link in the defence and for all his disciplinary issues, I believe Ross Marshall is a stronger option.

Similarly, it was disappointing to see Acheampong and Jenkins Davies on the bench after building momentum at the weekend.

If I were Downes I’d have a total rethink of the approach, with a far more attacking lineup and consider playing a 433 or 442 to make use of the strengths that we do have within the squad.

Despite a disappointing result today, it wasn’t a wreckless performance. Whilst it lacked passion, it had a degree of stability that we’ve been lacking.

I can’t quite make out what happened with the goal conceded before half time, individual defending errors may have contributed but frankly the team made the space for Weymouth to score. I think both Marshall and Tomlinson are showing improvement and were pretty steady today. Marshall showing some maturity having not retaliated for being completely upended by their keeper.

We needed to make better use of the width today but Stobbs was largely isolated. Dawson and McGavin at times both showed some composure on the ball, but movement around them was lacking.

It’s far from cohesive across the park at the moment which is why I’d rather see Downes be a bit braver in the tactical setup and put his own mark on the formation and game management with an attacking mentality.

I think it’s important to lift the players at the moment and the support today was fantastic throughout.

Lets go
Can I change my prediction in play?! 😊😫

It’s my first game in a while and the crowd and the sun got the better of my judgement.

Our goal was well worked, there has been some moments of decent play but the final ball is lacking.

Ultimately this team is still bereft in confidence and suffering a hangover of the Clarke / Johnson era.

It was my hope that the shock departure of the above would serve as a ‘reset’ and a catalyst for a shift in attitude and conviction, but on the merits on the first half I’d observe the fire is not there yet.

We really lack the do or die mentality which I believe is what the fans are looking for right now. We need a vocal leader on the pitch who will rally the team when the heads go down.

It wasn’t a disastrous first half, but a soft goal conceded to throw away our lead going into half time and the reaction of the players illustrates the lack of belief right now.

Let’s hope for an inspired performance and victory shooting towards our fans in the second half.
