Torquay v Boreham Wood 07/01/17

Just by way of following-up my own posting, I notice that Keiffer Moore was not in FGR's line-up for their 5-1 away thrashing of Bromley today. Should we read anything into this, or is he just injured?

Torquay v Boreham Wood 07/01/17

Oh dear, such a frustrating performance. Only my first match since November, the 75-mile drive from Bude was totally wasted apart from meeting my mate Kev in the Popside. The match was so poor we had plenty of time to talk about prog music (the stunning Steven Wilson remix of Jethro Tull's classic 1969 album 'Stand Up' was a major topic of conversation), my daughter's recent wedding and our families' forthcoming holiday plans! The Boring Wood goal was just so inevitable, one shot on goal and it goes in. Celebrated by their 5 fans - how does a club like BH manage to sustain a 5th tier club anyway, with so few supporters. The Gulls should have made mincemeat of them, the team that is, not the fans! How do the BH players stay so motivated playing in front of 300 people each week? Do I bother to make the effort to see the Woking match next week? Answers on a postcard please.

MOTM - Boreham Wood

Hugely disappointing performance but the following players did OK:

LRT - Excellent performance, the best I've seen him play
Sean McGinty - Apart from his error, a good defensive display
Paul Rooney - looks a great prospect for the future
Courtney Richards - A good captain's performance with some neat passing and timely interceptions
Er ...that's it I'm afraid!

OVERVIEW ON GAMING INTERNATIONAL LTD

Excellent posting and very informative – just what is needed after all the anguish and gnashing of teeth on this site over the past couple of days. I have been a follower of this Forum for a couple of years now but only recently joined as a contributing member, feeling that these are momentous times for our club. I have supported the Gulls since 1972 when I moved down to the Bay from Manchester with my family as a teenager. I now live in Bude but regularly make the 150 mile round trip to Plainmoor, usually with a depressing drive back these days following another frustrating performance..

Like others on the Forum I have lived through the bad and good times of supporting the Gulls, the worst being the Chris Roberts era but closely rivalled by the Paul Cox debacle of last year. I remember sitting in Bristow's Bench last year watching a dismal defeat by Boreham Wood shortly after Cox's departure, thinking that this was the end of our club. Only the fantastic support offered by Argyle supporters that night lifted the atmosphere of gloom and despondency.

The club has actually come a long way since then, helped by the appointment of a bright young manager in Kevin Nicholson and – yes – a cash injection by GI to help us stay up. The standard of football is not great, but I have yet to see a good footballing side at Plainmoor this season – the Gulls are certainly not the only side playing mediocre football in the National League.

My point is that we are genuinly at a watershed moment in the history of our club and we need to take on board what has happened in a calm and measured way. I find the personal attacks on David Phillips unwarranted and distasteful. He seems to be a decent chap and he would be the last person to claim he was an expert chairman. The veiled threats about what might happen if he turns up on Boxing Day are quite appalling. I would like to personally thank him for doing the best job he can in very difficult circumstances.

Our club clearly cannot go on the way it has for the last few years. No other serious investors have come forward, even though our club has the potential to be another Bournemouth. GI are no fools and we may even find in a couple of years that they were the best thing to happen to our club for a long time. The probable alternative was administration – do we really want to go down that route? We await tomorrow's press conference with interest and anticipation.
