Truro Match
SBP wrote: ↑28 Jul 2017, 21:57 Just got in from the game, not the best weather!! Well that was interesting, Truro were dead and buried within 14min. Truro were completely shocking, totally asleep from Luke Youngs free kick, they were just a complete shambles. Saying all that, TUFC were strong, fast and passed the ball very well. Higgins goal was one of the best strikes I have seen for a long time. Jordan Lee was exceptional, Grey must have thought it was xmas.
Even had to laugh at the ref giving his assistant a dressing down and reversing a throw in decision.
All in all some really good individual performances and collectively this side looks like they have something about them. Of course it will be a totally different proposition against Tranmere, however I m optimistic. This side looks confident and they have some very promising individuals.
A quick mention about Truro, Gerring and Richards looked dreadful, when Ed Palmer came on I didn't even recognise him, how heavy is he now!! They are going to need to improve dramatically or they are in for a very tough season.
Totally agree, Lee played like he did at the end of last season, Gosling and Higgins looked impressive together on the right in the second half. Felt a bit for Keating who worked very hard and was desperate to get a goal. Sam Chaney did well at left back in the first half and when pushed further up in the second, looked very accomplished against what has to said a very poor team in Truro. Not what we needed a week before Tranmere but definitely some room for some optimism for the season (hopefully!!)

Can only really be Gowling IMO, leaves Young (who I would think is in with a shout) to play football without the burden. It probably doesn't matter who's wearing the armband, it would be pleasing to see leaders all over the park this season, something we haven't had for a while.

forevertufc wrote: ↑22 Jul 2017, 13:09 To follow on from my last post. I think the proof of the pudding is in the eating, in the P.S.F v Plymouth , as said in the match thread, first half our team by and large, were the better team, we saw some slick passing, had Plymouth pinned back for long periods and were causing them problems, all with out the magical target man, it was only when Fallon came on, and our team reverted to hoofing it, that the Gargs took complete control of the game.
On the evidence of the Plymouth game, my question is. What's the panic to sign a target man ? Yes, of course it's a good thing to have different attacking option available, but for Christ sake, wait, search, as Mesre say's have to look around step 6 or below, see if there is a young , hungry player just waiting for a chance at full time football, and don't waste our time or money on a donkey who's well past his best.

New Stadium
Regardless of GI's intentions (which I think we are all aware are unknown at present, especially with their history) I think a new stadium will definitely generate more revenue. This is why football clubs all over the country are building new ones, from the premiership all the way down. The only venues in the south west that are available for music/comedy shows for example is Powderham Castle, and Plymouth Pavilion's. Whose to say the stadium cant have a facility to cater for that sort of thing. Food outlets like that and shops that you see at all the out of town precincts that are being build around the country, Hotel, a Crèche, swimming pool, bowling alley, indoor bowls facility, the list is endless!!
I'm aware this is all costly and its highly highly doubtful that GI or Torbay Council are going to fund anything at all, but to not consider a new stadium as a good revenue source is just narrow minded, IMO.

Probably the same time the season tickets will be ready or the names on the seats changed or the new badge changed throughout the stadium, maybe even when the new stadiums open or the new purpose build academy, the list goes on..........

He was definitely there last night, seen him walking in from the car park behind the players entrance, in the TUFC training kit. hopefully its not too serious, there was no sign of a limp!

Plymouth PSF Tonight
forevertufc wrote: ↑18 Jul 2017, 22:09 Went along to the game tonight, and pretty much agree with what's said above. Whilst it was a PSF, and you can't take to much from a bad defeat at Tiverton, you can't get to carried away with a positive performance either.
First half thought TUFC were the better side pleasing to see an attempt to pass the ball around, rather than countless, aimless hoofball hit rather in hope, and with both Reid and Gray hitting the Plymouth woodwork the were unlucky not to get a better result from the game.
Great to see Young looking like his old self again, displaying full range of accurate passing through out, Lathrope, he actually looked fit, seems have used his summer break well, Gray looks a really good signing, Gosling looks like he's going to add something to the squad. Higgins going to be fair and reserve judgement, had some bright moments, but two poor challenges in the box, both could have been given as penalties, one was, thankfully a poor spot kick easily saved.
More positives than negatives, off the back of this, no reason why we can't be looking forward to a brighter season, but, of course time will tell.
Edit; Forgot to add, Fallon, please no, just way past his sell by date, in my humble opinion.
Only thing I disagree with is Lathorpe. he a passenger. Its as though the other players don't trust him to keep the ball so don't bother passing to him, the woodwork touched the ball more than he did, which means Youngs left doing the job of 2 in midfield. We lost a little bit when Keating and Gray went off, they were working hard occupying the defenders which gave Gosling and even Reid lots of space to play in (If only Reids final ball was any good!!).
Agree with previous post that it was good to see them try and play football instead of hoof and run being Plan A. Still need at least 3/4 new players for the squad though, and what's the point of employing a fitness "Guru" if the players take their own warm up? should that not ne his speciality?
Fallon is crap, if that's how good you need to be to get a trial, ill take my boots and pads to Weymouth on Saturday!

Would be a good signing if we can get him back. Really looked to be more comfortable in the team at the end of last season and was probably MOTM on the last day.

How do we know that the process has not already started? maybe started when they first invested into the club, 12 months ago. lets be honest neither GI or the council have been transparent with the dealings with Plainmoor so far.

exilegull wrote: ↑16 Jul 2017, 21:52 I find it hard to look at the signings and squad last year and the signings and squad this year and not think that KN is developing.
Williams is a misfit - a player who clearly has the talent to play at a higher level but for whatever reason - presumably attitude and application - has not progressed beyond conference level and is on his 5th club in 5 years. Presumably KN knew this and took a gamble that he could harness him, but the gamble failed. Williams clearly played a vital role keeping us up, but its simply unfair to put all the blame on Nicholson for the whole season. Williams simply went missing - apart from the odd booking - when the team's struggles got worse towards the end of the Autumn.
I'd say KN has learnt from that gamble and does not seem willing to take the same gamble this year. There appear to be very few questions regarding the attitude of the players signed this year.
Also look at the rest of the signings last year - Dan Sparkes aside, the rest of the signings were very average, either players who had found their level at mid conference or inexperienced players. I think as a club we always need to try and look around the lower conference and for younger players to try and find some talent and ultimately transfer revenue, but the squad last year was far too inexperienced overall - only McGinty really looks to have paid off.
This year he has signed experienced and proven performers at this level and above (Gowling, Clarke, Davis, Pittman, Klukowski) and has combined that with promising potential (Keating, Higgins, Gosling). The teams looks to have a much better balance between experience and youth, with no risk taken around the attitude of the key signings and some leaders in there as well.
Unless we are particularly unlucky with injuries, I simply don't see this year being a struggle - I think the squad is probably a bit short of goals to challenge into the top 8, but perhaps there are a couple more signings to come.
It looks a far safer propostion which for me is Nicho learning.

Torquay vs Bristol city
portugull wrote: ↑12 Jul 2017, 22:52 A good gate of 1283 watched an entertaining game on an excellent pitch finishing 2-0 to United.
Our new signings:
Ryan Clarke. A Man Mountain. Did not have a lot to do.Looks good.
Ryan Higgins. Excellent debut. Quick, alert, great going forward. Superb anticipation in 15th minute to take a pass and cross with precision.
Josh Gowling.Played alongside McGinty looks a key player.
Yan Klukowski. Very tall commanding player gives height and physical strength to the team.
Jake Gosling. My MOTM. A real playmaker and a brilliant signing.
Jon Paul Pittman. Very good first half until nasty head injury just before half time.Another good signing.
Absolutely top signings by Nicho with no exceptions.
On Trial:
James Gray. Scored both goals the first a penalty. Experienced.
Yemi Odubade. Nearly scored near the end. I have seen him play at Plainmoor for several teams and he seems to score a few every season.
Possible signing plenty of experience at this level.
Well done to Sam Chaney at left back. Did well tonight.
I think we have the makings of a decent side if we could sign a striker as good as Kieffer Moore.
Very good post, couldn't agree more. Higgins my MOTM, look good throughout, both in defence and attack, and was visibly guiding the younger players who came on in the second as well, which bodes well. Gowling and McGinty look good together. Plenty of positives to take forward to Tranmere on 5 Aug.
