Expectations
A lot is being said in various places about certain clubs over extending themselves, but we are in the same boat. We spend approximately £1 million a year more than we earn in income and Clarke Osborn's five year plan probably comes up for renewal next year. Will we be able to pay if we don't make it? I doubt it very much.forevertufc wrote: ↑13 Aug 2021, 10:02
As a footnote to the the money spent y some clubs, only two clubs as we know can get promoted, that means at least two clubs if not all of them could be facing a bill for this season that I wonder whether they'll be able to pay.

Anything short of a genuine promotion challenge will be a disappointment. I don't think just because some teams are able to out spend us that is an excuse to accept a mid table position with a sniff of the play offs. The last two seasons have seen Barrow, Harrogate and Sutton promoted to the EFL whilst the likes of Notts County and Chesterfield must have been spending a lot more money than they did.

2 New Signings Announced
No doubt GJ thought Manny Duku and Josh Umerah would score goals for United as well. Be honest, none of us thought we would have to resort to signing a player who has already retired from the game and whose form over the last three years is patchy to say the least, in order to get a striker. If anything it shows how difficult it is to get players to come to Torquay United.
As someone else has said this brings back memories of the Rory Fallon debacle. Don't get me wrong, I want Holman to succeed but this is a gamble. Unfortunately I think there were no other options available, GJ obviously does not think Koszela is anywhere near the first team and like I said our club is simply not attractive to other players.

All players are assets when they are under contract. The reason we lose players to free transfers is because they will not renew when offered a new contract. You can't force a player to sign a contract if they don't want to, the only way to get players to sign is to offer what other clubs can't , but there are always going to be clubs who can offer more than us.smw1989 wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 12:19 ... we never see a player as an asset and we always loose players to free transfers. I have said that if I won the lottery and purchased Torquay then I would want to run a model where every player would be seen as an asset and we would command fees and not rollover like we always seem to do,

They didn't "basically decide to ignore the rule" for last season. The Football Association approached UEFA and asked for the rule to be lifted under exceptional circumstances and UEFA agreed.

The UEFA broadcasting black out for England is actually 14.45 to 17.15.MellowYellow wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 19:45 I see the club state that Article 48 of the UEFA Statutes precludes streaming of our match against Chippenham Town on August 7th.
This is the day the broadcasting blackout exemption ceases (EFL season starts)
My understanding of the rule is that in the UK, matches are prohibited from being broadcast between 14:45 and 15:15 on Saturdays to protect participation in grassroots football and the gate receipts for lower league clubs.

No it wasnt. Although not completed the results were not expunged and PPG was used to determine final positions. If the league has been voided there would have been no promotion/relegation.yellowmonkey wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 12:37 The league was not completed and declared void due to COVID.

The real reason for posts of this nature is simply the fact that a lot of our fans are scared of Notts County (despite the fact we beat them recently) and have an inferiority complex towards them.

Has anyone considered that what Cameron put on his Twitter regards #agentcam was in jest, you know a bit of fun. Jesus, some people need to get a sense of humour.

Except we are one of them, we are being bailed out to the tune of £1 million a year by the owner. If and when he decides that is no longer tenable then we are back to where we where when Dave Philips has to salvage the club on playing budgets that would almost certainly guarantee relegation.knightmaregull wrote: ↑20 Jul 2021, 19:48 As has been said by others, the NL has gone mad with clubs spending sums that will for many risk their very future.
I for one am glad Torquay are not one of them. For some of Notts, Stockport, Wrexham etc etc it may pay dividends but it can't for all and I'd rather be watching professional football in 10 years time, even if it's conference.

If that is the case then surely Wiles-Richards will be the first choice keeper, otherwise why would Bristol City loan him to us just to sit on the bench.Hammdog2601 wrote: ↑16 Jul 2021, 14:43 Mark Halstead and Bristol City under 23 Harvey Wiles Richards going to be the keepers
