Torquay United v Altrincham Sat 21 August KO 3pm

Reminded me of the bad old days, no tactics, slow plodding defence, lightweight attack.

Why do we always resort to 50/50 long balls? We look dangerous when we play it on the ground.

It's hard when all 3 goals should of been avoided. Bad decision making for all of them.

There was no criticism of Little, the team or Johnson from Bristows. Certainly being abused isn't going to help anyone during a game. Tbf though Little looks a red card waiting to happen at times. There isn't enough space for him to make telling passes or crosses. But the set pieces were terrible. 2 of 3 corners went straight out. Just stops any momentum.

I actually thought keeper was OK, and not at fault for any of the goals, and made one excellent save to keep us in it. Maybe I saw it wrong!

People have praised the new centre back, he certainly won a lot of headers, but I thought he was slow, and passing was poor. But something that can be worked on

Hopefully Asa, and CLE back in the first team soon.

Two 30 somethings up front didn't seem to work, was expecting one to start and one to replace him. It was like Waters was playing again.

Crowd would certainly of been more with pay on the gate.

I thought they got behind the team well till we went 2 down. A bad day at the office, too many newbies I guess. Some losses you can accept, but today was so poor.

Fingers crossed, time, players back and we'll come good.

Expectations

A lot us will remember Plainmoor in the 80s/90s, we seemed to be forever stuck in Division 4 (Oh to be stuck in League 2 now!) No fees paid out for players, our best one sold every season it seemed.
It felt we had no ambition, but in reality it was spending within our means. I didn't see that as a 20 something!

Expectations. The season after such a near miss can go a few ways. The players could still be shattered mentally and physically, and fall away the falling season. Two things stop that with us, Gary Johnson is one. He just won't tolerate it. The other is losing a few of those players, so bringing in new ones who haven't had to deal with that and reenergising a squad.

Or we use that experience and push on. With other clubs spending, maybe some unknown Dark Horses emerging, Play offs would be a good target.

Expectations are also that we need to be a league club sooner rather than later, what happens at the end of our 5 year plan if we're not.

Hopefully today will see a continuation of our high energy pressing game. Maybe with more pass and move rather than pacy tricky players. Please not hit and hope if it doesn't work straight away.

Lastly, Asa Hall? Our club is famously quiet on the player news front, but has there been anything?

Logged in looking to see chat about Bournemouth, and there was none!

Friendy games can of course give no indication of the season ahead, but 5 wins against lower opposition is still a good return. With form and fitness coming. The team have more of the look of the one pushing over the second half of last season.

The intense high energy pressing game is there. We've lost the pacy tricky wingers, but gained a striker who will shoot on sight, and fierce tackling midfielder.

A week ago I'd imagined a mid table finish, with a chance of the Play Offs. Now, it does feel we may have a better side than last season. Maybe!

Injuries will be key, our 2 (experienced) older strikers must be kept as fresh as possible, the same with Little and Hall. The keeper looks a good replacement.

And us, the Plainmoor crowd has a tendency to be quiet, or moan at the slightest mistake. I've never seen the benefits of Booing at halftime, save it till the end if you must.
We don't seem to give much encouragement.

Anyhow, im quiet positive about the season ahead. If we play as we can, we'll give anybody a game.
I feel more upbeat than anytime since those horrid penalties.

Seating issues

Sat in the Bench yesterday, yes I found the voucher hard to understand.
When you have a large stand with only two turnstiles, you are going to have delays. Especially with cash only.
The obvious solution seems to be to use one of the adjacent two Family stand turnstiles as a third way in.
Or have another turnstile next to away end ?
The other point for me, being all the way down by the away section, it took an age to get out. Didn't bother me, because I had a robust discussion with the Gloucester photographer over the disallowed goal, as I waited. Just would of been easier to walk out by the away end.
And lastly, lots of stewards in the Pop side and empty away end. Not a single one in between their vocal supporters and us.
The only thing separating us was the steps. They were no real trouble, but only takes a word or two. Just didn't seem the best idea.

I said he talked a lot, didn't say it was interesting !
You know when you go round a mates or relatives house to watch football, you like BBC commentary and they have itv on ?
starts every sentence with "I'll tell you what", and there are a lot of sentences (the other two guys with him didn't get a word in)
TBH he just gave a match commentary, with opinions on players and what they should be doing and where on the pitch.
I guess it was interesting to hear what footballers talk about, mostly football !
The one thing he said about his future at Tufc I think we all alread know, so no need to say it.
And should of recognised konchelsky. Fair play dropping down the leagues to keep playing.

Torquay United v East Thurrock United 11/08/18

Enjoyed the game today, well about 15 minutes straight after halftime. 500 down on tue, shows what happens if you don't steamroller the opponent in your first game.
A few things,
32 away fans, for those who wanted to know, according to a steward as I walked past the away end.
Fairly humorous moment, when the Thurlock goalie claps empty away end at the start !
Most genuine moment, when waiting to take a corner, the East Thurrock player playing one twos with a ballboy.
Best strike of the match, Dave with the crossbar challenge, £50, well done that man.
Ear opening 90 minutes, having Josh Gowling and a player who may be fit for tue ?, sat directly behind me, heard every word said. And there were a lot.
Our number 8, great header of the ball, but awful passer, 90% of his passes went to opponents. nobody pass to him, ever.
Well done Ruairi Keating, at least shows it means something to him.
An ok performance, but 7 points is 7 points, and no goals conceded.

Torquay United v Macclesfield Town, Match Day Thread 23/9/17

Terrible performance.
Apart from the goalie and josh gowling, none others can claim credit.
As has been obvious all season, we have no attacking threat. No one who can at least hold the ball up.
You can see more emphasis has been placed on playing the ball on the ground against our normal hoof ball.
Unfortunately this means more misplaced passes, (gave the ball away) poor ball control (gave the ball away) and too many back passes, one of which lead to their goal.
We gifted the opposition another 3 points, they weren't great.
The only positive was, I was sat in the sunshine, with a lovely view of the moors.
Next home game, if the suns still shinning, I know where I'll be.

Highest and lowest TUFC away support.

Torquay Utd has traditionally always had a large away following. After seeing the amazing 49 who turned up at Barrow, I was just wondering the facts and figures of our away support over the years. Just how few and how many have watched us in an official match.
So if you guys can better my numbers, please do tell.
I was one of the the hardy band of 30 or so who travelled to Scarborough and the Mcain stadium somewhere around 1993/4. We lost 1-0 in front of 1,300. It was the match where Wes Saunders had his career ending injury.
The highest was the 1500 to 2000 again somewhere around 1993/4 who saw us head to Home Park And lead Plymouth 2-1 at halftime, to ultimately lose the game 3-2.
So can anyone beat 30 and 1,500 ?
Lee.

5 worst/least favourite players since watching TUFC

David Byng did actually score for Torquay.
He got two on his debut away at Walsalls Bescot stadium. Think he was only 16 at the time ?
TBH he looked a natural goal scorer that day.
The player that grates with me is the guy that scored 4 against us at Plainmoor for Scunthorpe (1-8). Andy ? Sure we signed him the next season and he was dire for us.
Yes for Marc Sale, awful player.

Woking v Torquay match thread Monday 28/8/17 3pm

In 28 years, nope.
It may now be in the past, but why can't or shouldn't we blame kn to at least a degree, this is his mess ?
At the end of last season I totally believed in him, in his reasoning for all that was happening.
There was and is a lot going on behind the scenes no doubt, but isn't that true at a lot of clubs ?
The quality players he signed are injury prone. As proved yet again today. It's why no one else wanted them. The rest are garbage, even on the cheap they should at least show some guts. These are meant to be professionals !
Players with an attitude have been shipped on, yet these players managed correctly, will score goals or die for the cause.
The players, tactics, fitness regimens, are all his. We shouldn't lose regularly to part time clubs, no matter the multitude of excuses I've read on here.
We have the best pitch in the league, it should be our trump card, yet we continue to hoof the ball all day long.
GI may well screw us over, but no one else put their hands up did they.
And Yorkieandi, to call Torquay United home supporters simple is insulting. We pay our money to watch and support TUFC.
Is the wait for a new manager worrying, of course. I'm thinking there aren't many candidates.

Gateshead vs Torquay United 12.8.17

Afraid with no Josh Gowling in defence, we look very poor defensively. Upfront we are lightweight, how is it only us the supporters can see this ?
We keep signing good players who are injury prone, it's why no one else wants them.
It's difficult to stay positive, think people will soon start turning on KN.
and no matter what people say, we should be winning these games.
Guessing next home crowd will be 1700.

Torquay United vs Tranmere Rovers 5.8.17

A committed performance from both sides. An entertaining 0-0.
Tranmere moved the ball around better than us, hit the woodwork twice, and had two debatable red cards.
Their number two should of been shown a straight red for an awful challenge on Chaney I think, but wasn't. A minute or so later Keating let the player know what he thought of the challenge, one of theirs put a foot out to trip him up and received a second yellow for it.
Keating should of stayed out of it, the boy has a temper.
The second red was for an elbow, which occurred within a minute of a Torquay player appearing to do exactly the same thing.
It felt to me that we were lucky to escape without a red card during the game.
The ref was poor, too lenient at the start, to harsh in the middle, then after the second red, felt he coundnt show another red.
Up front we were lightweight, whether that was the opposition, the wind, or our midfield making the wrong choices.
But a totally committed performance from us, some good play, but lacking in the last third. the keeper looks good.
He may well need to be.

Keating Signs!

Fantastic news.
If he keeps up that high energy, high commitment play, and keeps learning, he'll be a great addition to us.
Just need Williams alongside him please.
And young in midfield of course.
Great news.
