FA Cup 4RQ draw

£15 is a bit steep, but as a supporter I will be there to support my team. You never know, we may not have many more chances to play in the FA Cup.
This is a game we're expected to win, the kind of tie we'd of wanted. But obviously huge potential to be embarrassed.

The Ownership of Torquay United.

Yes, the plan it seems was for Spires to give their sea view fields up for housing.
New stadium is supposed to be multi purpose, why people keep banging on saying it'll never be more than a quarter full. That's what Osborne is saying, attracting uses for the stadium as well as football to bring more money in.
Does he mean it, will a new stadium attract other uses, will it even get built? Who knows.
I though 2,200 was a decent attendance on Saturday certainly we may get 1,800 tomorrow but down to 1,400 is hopefully not going to happen any time soon.

TUFC v Scunthorpe United Sat 1st October KO 3pm

Well it won't be as bad as 1995 and that 1-8 to them.
Hopefully Moxey will return, but how often are our injured players back within a week or two? always seems to be 6-8 weeks out.
Am going for a 0-1 to them or 3-1 to us, if we finally create and finish our chances.
However it goes, loud support, not toxidity has to be a given until the final whistle.
Attendance 1,900.

Gary Johnson, stick or twist?

Unfortunately your restaurant analogy doesn't really work here, we can all comment on the food quality, but if you don't know what's happening behind those kitchen doors? And we're more back street cafe than 4 star hotel.
None of us know the budget this chef has to spend on his ingredients, maybe low quality is all he can afford. Certainly when he's gone for quality, but past their best, it generally hasn't worked. This chef may also only be able to get most of the ingredients locally, unlike most.
My belief is Johnson has gambled, he has seen our best players picked off and our experienced ones injured too often. As a consequence he has chosen lots of youngsters and given them decent length contracts, in the hope he can mould them into a team with longevity, and the security stop others taking them. I believe if we stick, then this season is unfortunately about survival/building, but next season we'll have a better but still youthful team, that could be successful in the longer period.

Torquay United v Solihull Moors FC Tues 13th Sept 19.45pm

Definitely a penalty and a sending off for their keeper. Think he may of already been booked for time wasting. We thought it was an obvious pen from our place around the half way line.
Would it of affected the outcome? Probably not but who knows.
Johnson is shopping in the bargain basement, of course some are not going to work out, or not in the time they'll have. He'll find the ones to fill their places as the season progresses. We need to tie our best players to longer contracts, if we're offering one year deals it's no wonder most leave if offered something better. We're not going to sign the Armstrongs of this world. We have to find the gems amongst the dross and they have to learn in games.
Yes, for at least two goals our players backed off, that was infuriating. But I thought we at least looked like being able to create chances of our own
The attendance wasn't great, but certainly not 1000 down as has been mooted. Would of hoped for 2000 on a Tuesday night. Not being able to pay on the gate (regardless of being able to pop into the office before) has made a difference to our attendances.

Johnson isnt going to shoulder the blame, he'll look weak to us, the board and more importantly the players. Is he struggling, yes of course he is and it is showing a bit. Will he be able to produce a good side for us, yes of course he can if we have patience. Not even 10 games in yet.

MOTM - Solihull Moors

Goodwin, non stop effort, a goal, and at least looks like a professional football player. With the right support, would score a fair few.

Wyatt, I think someone said he changed position after Moxey went off. If so, looked much better for it. Won the ball, looked up for it and tried to drive us forward.

Torquay United v Solihull Moors FC Tues 13th Sept 19.45pm

The attendance, i only realised myself we were playing 24 hours ago, so maybe some didn't even know. Crappy weather, previous poor home performances, low amount of away supporters all contributed.

Think we can all see the deadwood players, hopefully they'll be gone soon. At least 3 players from the first 11 shouldn't be anywhere near the first team in my opinion. One up front, one from the midfield and one from the defence, won't name names.

For me, that was a definite penalty we weren't awarded and a sending off, and theirs was a penalty as well, but tbh I think Moors would of won the game anyhow. They look a very decent side, we tried to press them at the back and were rewarded with one goal and what should of been a pen.

There's no doubting poor requirement has played a part in this squad. Some of the new players could become good players, but others..........
And Lapslie, still injured. Hall on the bench but played no part.
Jarvis looked like a player who has just come back from injury, so he gets a pass tonight.
Is Johnson still the right man? I guess rather naively, I still think so.

Maidstone Utd v Torquay Utd Sat 27 Aug 3pm

Relegation battle, in August. 🤔
Unfortunately every other season we lose the spine of our team, Gary has to rebuild constantly, the injuries we continually suffer mean we rarely put out our first choice eleven for consecutive games.
Certainly the injury situation needs addressing, in my opinion its what's been stopping us returning to the football league.
Does Gary try to get players back playing too soon? Are they pushed too hard in training?
With no reserve team, there is no alternative but to be hard on them and then put them straight back in. We certainly need an experienced and strong physio who can say 'no' to the second part.
Do we gamble on experienced and/or classy but fragile players? Yes we do, some come off but most haven't. Do we gamble on marquee signings? Yes, because we can't seem to bring on our own younger players.

Is Johnson still the best person to drive us forward? I'd say yes, even with the the issues we have. What's the alternative? Pay him off, put Downey in charge with limited funds. Pay them both off, and new guy has no money to spend?
Last seasons start was very similar, leave it to him to get it sorted.

Torquay v Boreham Wood - Sat 20/08/21

Yes, the same player who wanted to leave. What were the club meant to do about that?
Yes, it's a poor start, will Johnson sort it out, yes of course he will.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but if you haven't watched a single minute of a game this season...........

The players will toughen up to this league, or he'll get rid of them, that's how he works. His record speaks for itself.

Ex-Gull watch

With only one goalkeeper, where's the pressure needed to keep him 100% focused every game? Knowing he must be consistent, knowing he needs to keep improving. And as someone said, Play Off final, leading until he's injured and then they lose. That choice mosylt likely cost them promotion.
Know which option I'd go for.

PSF TUFC vs Exeter City 23/07/22

Yesterdays game was a bit Clint Eastwood. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Players gave everything, throwing themselves in front of everything. Now and again with the odd bit of quality, but the front two couldn't keep hold of the ball or chose the wrong option. So the ball kept on coming back at us.
On another day City would of scored four, but we took our chance and they didn't
Thought Halstead looked excellent, but it feels one mistake and some will turn on him.
Excellent support, but seeing the youngsters from both sides goading each other was entertaining I guess. Guess I'm getting old. At least we have the next generstion supporting us.
All in all, a typical Johnson display. It's refreshing to see players wanting to give all they have for the team. Hopefully the players gelling a little more and there could be a decent side there.

An Academy is a must. Having parents needing to pay is ridiculous.
Both South Devon College and Torquay Academy have the facilities required. Isn't Chris Todd already in charge of the under 18s and connected to the college, could he take charge of this as well?

Even if we start low key, low budget, all it takes is one find and we're away. Maybe we should be checking out Exeters' set up and replicating it on a smaller scale.

Academy is a must. Exeter have generated huge money from theirs.
Maybe we just don't have the personnel or time to run it correctly?
Certainly Johnson doesn't trust the players it's produced, maybe he's worried about his brothers job?!

Yes, Gary normally plays it tight, to his chest, but the way he spoke, it certainly feels like any or all who played today may of played their last games for us.
