This is it. During the past two seasons when we were right down at the bottom and it looked bleak I still never really believed we'd be relegated. Things are different now though, I have no faith whatsoever that Owers can conjure up the kind of belief and confidence that Nicholson found in the past two seasons. Before, no matter the abilities of the players, it still felt (to me) that they were giving it their all and there was more of a togetherness between club and fans. Now there is none of that. There are players who I don't think are up for it, mentally and physically and who don't want to be there. I can't see any way out of this one.Plainmoor78 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2018, 19:30 No chance. I dont get any vibes from this team or management that they want to do it, let alone can do it.

Jim Parker Herald Express
This kind of petulant writing and deliberate attempts to antagonise the readership is something I normally associate with the Guardian's Opinion page rather than the Herald.
Also if Harrop knew what he was talking about he'd know that Fleetwood's ground (Highbury) isn't new at all. They've played there since 1939.

I'm guessing about 80ish away fans, the terrace was closed but I paid £15 so they charged terrace prices. I can't imagine they open the terrace unless they play a team with large away support.

Indeed, I didn't think he lived up to all the hype. I'm really hoping he finds some form and does well for us though.

I haven't said it's a good point. I said twice that I've resigned myself to relegation. However, I enjoyed going to watch my team play and surprisingly compete with the league leaders. As it's probably the last game I'll see for the foreseeable future living in Manchester it was more than I expected.

Oh you should've seen the reaction when he walked over to the bench at the start of the game, never mind when he came on in the second half and proceeded to offer about as much as Reid had done. It was quite comical as I don't remember this complete devotion to Williams last time he was at the club. Bizarre.dannyrvtufc4life wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 16:35 Hate to be a negative nelly, but it's not like one player is going to magically move us up the table? And, even if he did, we have a bigger problem on our hands than just the players and the management. Bringing in a striker who can score goals is great, but when we're almost already relegated with an owner who has no interest in the club whatsoever, one player is not going to change that. I just think that the reaction is way OTT, it's the like the messiah has returned. It's certainly not that.

Macclesfield Town v Torquay United 27/1/18
Considering I'd resigned myself to a crushing defeat before I went, I was pleasantly surprised that we got a point. The performance was not as bad as I'd expected. Granted we couldn't pass very well, or control the ball particularly well, and we didn't create that many clear cut opportunities. However, se got a point away from home at the league leaders so we must have done something right. Macclesfield weren't great but they should've converted a few of their opportunities in the first half especially. We rode our luck at times.
I still can't see us staying up but if we are going down then at least we made a go of it, hopefully we continue to put the same level of commitment into every game for the rest of the season. To some on here who bemoan the fact we only got a point at the league leaders, just cheer up at least until the next game, yes we're going down but you could see how much it meant to the players and fans at the end of the game. Noticeable that Owers didn't come over to us at the final whistle though.
A few players that I thought stood out:
Young seemed to be everywhere in the first half, it'd be interesting to see how much ground our players covered as he seemed to be playing in every position on the field. You can see his commitment to the cause, he gives 100%.
Reid I thought was very poor. Our control and passing as a team was often slack and it's amazing that we weren't punished more often. Maybe I'm singling him out unfairly but I noticed Reid more often that others miscontrol the ball, give it away to the opposition or make poor passes. He looks like his confidence is shot and it's no surprise. He was rightly substituted in the second half and that leads on to another player that stood out...
Given the hype and the vocal expectation in the stand I thought Williams contributed about as much to the game as Reid. He had a couple of off target attempts and gave away the ball a couple of times. All in all I don't think he did very much while he on, I'd start him ahead of Reid next time but only because he can't possibly be offer any less.
Gowling I thought was decent in the centre of defence. He had a calmness and assuredness about him and always seemed to know what to do. I thought there was quite a difference between him and McGinty, who at almost every opportunity would launch the ball up field where it would often come straight back at us. Though this has been his style in all the games I've seen him so I can't imagine he'll change much.
I'm glad Romain got a goal as he like Young never stopped running all afternoon. I'd imagine him and Williams up front will be the way of things from now on.

Will be coming from Stockport, can't imagine I'll be seeing any games in the Conference South so this'll be the last game for the foreseeable future. Can only see a comprehensive defeat, 3-0.

Dorel (Thought he looked assured most of the time he was called upon)
No one else, Reid tried but he still didn't do much.

AFC Fylde v Torquay United 18/11/17
"Torquay United determined to stop prolific Fylde striker Danny Rowe" according to a midweek article in the Herald.
Well that worked well didn't it. The last game I saw was against Halifax last month and we were far superior then, we looked dangerous when we got the ball forward and seemed quite cohesive. None of that was present today. Today we looked utterly toothless in attack and Fylde easily dealt with anything we managed to create. In the first half there were numerous occasions when players hung back, waiting for the defender to get to the ball rather than trying to attack and win it in the first place. When we did actually manage to get some nice moves going and get into a position to test the keeper our finishing was such that it was easily dealt with, their keeper had an easy afternoon. Something I noticed that had changed from the Halifax game was that our first touch here was often woeful. Again, too often potentially promising opportunities were snuffed out very early because of a wayward or careless pass, or failing to control the ball.
Despite making a big song and dance about stopping Danny Rowe, we failed completely in preventing him scoring two goals that (certainly in the case of the second) could have easily been avoided. For the second he was given far too much time and space on the edge on the box to carefully slot it last Dorel in the corner. I thought Davis was particularly noticeable for this, giving opponents too much room and just standing off waiting for them to shoot.
I've heard a lot lately about how if only we can convert all these chances we're making then we'll be alright, well today we created almost no chances. We're in deep trouble and things are getting worse, not better.

2-0 down. It's been coming, Fylde have been getting closer and closer the last ten minutes. Whatever was said at halftime has made impact whatsoever.
