Great post Dave.
I do wonder if the TUST have considered whether savings to running costs could be made without resorting to a part time model.

Really! I've supported this team for over 50 years and like Mellow I've had enough. These bunch of so called professionals can't even rouse themselves to save the club from the threat of relegation to the Southern League. Losing consecutive games by a combined score of 7-1 to two part time teams is an absolute disgrace. None of them are fit to wear shirt. They just don't care.Skillsy wrote: ↑17 Mar 2024, 01:07 Mellow......
I fully accept our football team aren't very good at football at the moment, but we all need to pull together. I don't understand why people would abandon ship in our desperate hour of need.
Given that we were nigh on favourites to win this league in August, the season has been a complete disaster. That is an indisputable fact.
I will be there against Hampton....please be there too

Where's the money going?
Sounds like the business was appallingly run if the club is woefully overspending.wbw wrote: ↑25 Feb 2024, 18:54 Someone, an Administrator perhaps, needs to assess the situation and see what's possible in the very short term.
2 home games a month has achieved a £20k a week loss, so that's not the answer.
Basically, the club is woefully overspending and that's OK as long as someone keeps covering the shortfall. When he's driven out.....disaster looms, I'm afraid.

That is a very defensive line up. A team picked not to lose? Dawson starting after playing 20 minutes on Saturday is a huge gamble.UnitedinDevon wrote: ↑20 Feb 2024, 19:06
BigDave certainly needs to calm down and have a word with his father to go!
Anyway back to the real world, it's an all out team with Dawson and Jarvis starting and Stobbs also back on the bench!
I will predict a win - Farmers 1-3 Torquay
Oh and Gary Out!

It's interesting that you mention the Hartlepool play off final because that's when Johnson should have been sacked for blowing the best chance this club will probably ever have of getting back to the FL. Instead, Johnson was given a contract extension during that season and it's been down hill ever since.BigDave wrote: ↑19 Feb 2024, 22:27 If he means MONTHS then why does he say YEARS? Is it an attempt to show how clever he is - being wise before the event, rather than after it? (Perhaps he can answer for himself.)
Poor humour is better than no humour at all and gallows humour appears to be what is necessary on this site with all the Johnson detractors seeming to think that hanging, drawing and quartering would be too good a fate for him: were they all baying for his blood after that Hartlepool encounter in June 2021? Fickle, fair weather fans with a sense of entitlement that is not based realistically on the club's achievements should be hoping that Johnson can produce some better results rather than taking a negative stance. If a new manager takes over the reins and fails to get Torquay United into a higher division within a year or so, will UnitedinDevon, WainwrightGull, WestLondonYellow, et al be proclaiming that they knew that that would be the case? If Johnson stays and somehow manages to achieve promotion there will doubtless be some Damascene conversions among those harbingers of doom so blessed with omniscient hindsight.

I've got zero sympathy for Johnson. His team, his players, his tactics and his mess, which he never takes responsibility for. I suspect he blew the budget on sick notes like Hall, Dawson and Martin together with players who simply aren't good enough leaving little room for manoeuvre. Couple that with a chief scout who couldn't spot Messi if he saw him play and you have the current situation we are all having to endure. The Great Muta! wrote: ↑17 Feb 2024, 21:19 I get zero pleasure from watching GJ struggle post match, he obviously badly wants to correct things in the hope we'll make the playoffs and go up, it's a pride thing, and I get that, it can't be easy for him, no matter what line of work we're in, personal pride is important and integrity, once upon a time he was good for us, but those days have gone now, I even think for his well being and mental health he should walk away, why he needs all this aggro at this stage of his life God only knows.
He's probably the most arrogant manager we've ever had and if he had an ounce of pride or respect for the club he would resign. But no, he keeps going either in the mistaken belief he can turn things round or he wants to keep picking up his wages for grossly underperforming. Johnson out.

What could be worse than the position we are already in? We have an owner who doesn't care about the club but wants to use it for his own ends, a CEO who treats supporters with contempt, a manager who is well past his best and a team going backwards.culmstockgull wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 18:18 Westlondon gull, carry on the petty comments and mind games, it just proves your arguement is weak, I have said all a long when complaining about the club,be careful what you wish for, you as you have taken on the mantle as agitator in chief you could be the one we talk about when the club is no more, that should make you popular

Message to the "protesters"
The problem with this strategy is that it plays into the hands of Osborne, Edwards and Johnson. What they want is compliant fans whilst they systematically destroy the club we all love and support. We can't be far off the same position in the table we were when Johnson was appointed, which shows how little progress has been made on the field in the last five years. I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson has had something to do with yesterdays club statement because we all know he doesn't take criticism well with his digs about the wrong sort of supporter in his interviews.portugull wrote: ↑09 Feb 2024, 18:26 As North Curry House says and supported by Skillsy our job tomorrow is to give our full backing to the team. OUR TEAM.
If you cannot do that stay away. When times are bad that is when you have to inspire the team with your whole hearted support.
I am backing the team to play really well tomorrow because they know to a man they let us down last Saturday and they let the Club and themselves down.
I back them 100% and go 3-1 to the Gulls. COYY.
The club is a mess on and off the field and nothing will change whilst Osborne, Edwards and Johnson are at the club and 2,000 fans turn up every week and compliantly support the team whilst giving the club their hard earned money.
Like Admiral I no longer watch the team. I look for the results and listen to Johnson's ludicrous pre and post match press conferences but this is no longer the club I've support through thick and and a lot of thin for over 50 years.

Lee Johnson would be lucky to get a job at 6th tier level given his recent managerial record. Being a crap manager obviously runs in the family.TorquayUnited wrote: ↑03 Feb 2024, 17:59 Blimey. So he is going to drop 3 to 4 levels below his career level to come here.
Mourinho to Dagenham and Redbridge or Barnet is more likely.
We are 6th tier.

It's not the job of supporters to name the next manager. It the job of the owner & CEO to find a suitable manager to replace the current incumbent, who clearly isn't up to the job.TorquayUnited wrote: ↑03 Feb 2024, 16:00 So name me one manager that is going to come here full time???
A sacked ex football league manager???
Wouldn't come anywhere near this level.
A upcoming manager going to give up his job and life to go full time.
Ok then.
Give me 3 names by full time??
Let's see how deluded you are.

Yet another terrible loan signing. I'd love to know how much Pete Johnson gets paid for scouting these players.aggrey_25 wrote: ↑24 Jan 2024, 08:51 collins has proven a poor signing, and tonight showed what a real lack of firepower we have upfront.
if foyo has gone back that is another terrible piece of recruitment, WE NEED A STRIKER!!
what's even more worrying is the pack lining up behind us, lose a few more and we will be 12/13th quite easily with an uphill battle

Klaidi Lolos also scored 16 goals in 35 appearances for Oxford City in the NLS last season!Stoneybroke wrote: ↑07 Jan 2024, 15:01 Just want to mention Lolas. Went from us to Oxford city and now at Crawley.
His main claim to fame was being brought as a sub in our "heyday" in the Conference and then Our beloved leader brought him off after 10-15 minutes on the pitch.
Scored a cracking goal seen on Match of the Day last night.
So Gary,,,,,,what was wrong with him? Another player improving himself in League Two.
Also see Wearne signed up to play at MKDons another League team.
Another one that was deemed not good enough by our illustrious leader and his cohorts
Still as George keeps telling us...he's the best man for the job...Really !!!
Discuss!!!

I didn't advocate we should sign any players on loan. I simply made the point that if we hadn't given contracts to players who can't stay fit and we had adequate cover in the squad we wouldn't have the current problems regarding player availability.TorquayUnited wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 15:05 How and who are we going to sign on loan in this league.
Nobody will come here to advance their career by playing part time players.
No part time players are coming to sign or on loan to give up their jobs to earn less money by going full time.
We are 6th tier. I think some people don't realise this yet and still.think.we are a league club at times and operating on that basis because we are full time.
We are not.
