AFC Fylde v Torquay United 18/11/17

Plymouth Gull wrote: 17 Nov 2017, 11:44 With Klukowski, Chaney and Anderson going out on loan, do we have a 16 for this?
Indeed we do, with Lee, Dowling, Pittman and (arguably) Gosling to spare.

Management options

I completely agree - that's not what I was referring to in my post so I apologise if it came over that way.

It just seems silly to dismiss Paul Cox (who would be my choice), purely because he has worked here before. He has experience at this level, he has had SUCCESS at this level, and he's different to KN in that he's a tough bloke who will give the players the extra kick and the bit more bottle they need to finish off a game rather than flopping in the final third of the game as we have seen far too often in recent times.

An ex-player on the other hand will have had no experience, no success, and even if they are tough will have no credibility as a manager for the players to take him seriously.

I really don't get the whole "no connection with the club" thing that's being emphasised by a few members. I can see why they're saying it and their points are valid - but is it really that important?

One of their reasons for this is that 'any manager that has history with the club, there will be a bandwagon full of people who never liked Cox and will say "I told you so" when it all goes wrong'... This will happen whoever is appointed, whether they have a connection with the club or not. This is a forum of people with varied opinions and most on here will have their preferred options - Yates, Money, Rose, just to name a few. A few will dislike Yates because he failed at Crawley. Some will dislike Money because he's had 2 years out and will take a fair wage leaving less money for players. Even more will dislike Rose because he's never had experience in the National League.

So, whoever is appointed, there will be a group who dislike them. And due to the nature of football, when things go well they will accept the manager, when things go wrong, back onto the bandwagon they go and the 'I told you so's will flow.

There never has and never will be consensus between football fans, but that's part of what makes football football.

Brace yourselves

Has anyone questioned the possibility that Georg, mushroom and co. may have had something to do with GI? I don't know, and I have absolutely no facts nor am I making a statement with any basis. Just enquiring as to what people think.

He was on trial at Swindon earlier this pre-season. Interesting to see how he does tonight.

So what do we need......?

Who says Verma even wants to play first choice RB next season?

We could be cheeky and nick back Joe Oastler from Aldershot too to make the trio

Announcement this week??

What the f**k.

I can only presume it was a negotiation along the lines of "if you want me to work here for that pittance, Dave, then you'll have to give me an extra year on the contract."

Well, he is basically un-sackable for two years, so I hope he lives up to the hype!

Next Years Squad

4 of our loanees have contracts that run out in June this year - Moore, Verma, Rees, and Wright
Nathan Smith's contract runs out in 2017 and unfortunately I see him playing at a higher level than the Conference next year
I doubt we will see Lavercombe back next year.

Moore and Rees have been outstanding and I would love to see them back. Verma would be a very good player to have back as he can do a decent job in both midfield and seemingly full back too.

I would be very happy with a team like this next season:

Moore
Berry (Hopefully back around September if not sooner, seeing the progress he is making)
MacDonald
__________ (preferably Smith but unlikely)
Butler
Allen
Young
Chaney/Rees
__________
Blissett/Wright/_________
Blissett/Wright/_________

I feel that a few class signings where I have left the blanks and we could really have a playoff push on. Blissett and Wright are good but I feel that we would need a prolific regular-scoring striker to consistently get results. Not saying they haven't done a good job but I feel some extra fire-power would be required for a serious push.

However at the end of the day it's down to the the new owners to decide how much of their own cash they want to splash. If the board don't want to spend their own money, and they predict a 1800 avg gate then our budget will be exactly the same! Hopefully though we can average around 2000 and we will have a budget big enough to get some decent signings and really show that we are contenders to return to the Football League.

Torquay United v Altrincham

Some stats which I feel are important leading up to Tuesday's game...

Altrincham haven't won in 5
Torquay haven't drawn in 6
Altrincham haven't won away in 9
Torquay haven't drawn at home in 4
Altrincham have only kept ONE clean sheet from 20 away games this season

Whilst I will not make any predictions to tempt fate, I'd say the stats are in our favour.
Let's hope our nerve holds out and we can scrape a win. :goal: :scarf:

Torquay V Chester - Now Tue 5th April

I don't understand why Halifax winning is such a bad thing? Halifax winning means:

21st place Boreham Wood P42 pts41

A draw means
21st place Halifax P40 pts 41

I'd rather be 3 points clear of relegation with a game in hand.

Our Final 9 Games. Can we avoid Relegation.

Sesimbra wrote:SG the four matches are only winnable if Torquay can put the ball in the net. The BBC stats show that in the last 6 matches, mostly against lower league teams,we have only had 7 shots ON TARGET resulting in 1 goal. Draws will not be sufficient to stay up.
The revealing two matches for me this last weekend were; Dover 5 Torquay 0; Relegation contenders Boreham Wood 3 Dover 0
BBC Stats are completely wrong. I've been at matches and followed BBC stats at the same time and they are almost always way off.

3 points behind both Boreham Wood and Halifax with 2 and 1 games in hand respectively. Next 3 opponents all in bottom half. Looking good if we can keep the momentum going!
