Michael Poke

I think Poke is most likely to be on double the wage bracket that Ricey's on. Although it would be great to have 2 senior keepers, I would be quite happy with Ricey and that Dan Lavercombe as a back up, as he won youth player of the year. This would then free up the cash to help get players like Cureton, Agyemang or Calvin Andrew or whoever... that's where the money should be going

What I would do if I were Hargreaves on Saturday

So Bodin is out for a while and Shaquille Coulthirst, who I would love to have next season, has gone back to Spurs. I think this is a great opportunity to line up the players who are likely to be here or who will be offered contracts next season. This is what I would do(excludes O'Connor, young player of the year for me but not likely to be here next season)
Rice
Tonge - Pearce - O'Connor - Cargill/Cruise
Thompson/Stevens/Sullivan - Manse - Lathrope - Cameron
Yeoman - Sullivan/Benyon

I believe we will be able to get Cargill back next season. Hargreaves has constantly been mensioning he wants to make youngsters. Perfect oportunty to get the likes of Yeoman, Sully and Thompson playing! Thoughts?

Shrewsbury Town's board of directors did this

Just reading what they said about the loan system. We did almost exactly the same, relied upon it and made us go down. This should be a lesson to all football league clubs...

How not to run/manage a football club...basically!

Right from when we signed 2 strikers the day before match day 1, you knew something would go wrong! Yes I definitely think these players will do well in the what I now want to call 'Confo'. What will the board want to say?

How not to run/manage a football club...basically!

As a football club we have taken some wrong turns that in the end has proved costly. Whether it has been the board or poor management.

No disrespect to Mrs Bristow. She has done all she can to try and keep us up by pumping more and more money into it. However, it's alright pumping all that money in but it's got to be used in the right way.

The things that have hit us hard this term are:
-Knill being manager till christmas, fair enough he kept us up last year but for me we should have kept lingy or got rid of earlier
-No 'Rene Howe' type foward signed in the summer
-(No foward signed perminantly at all)
-Not using our own young players as much
-and lastly... the amount of loaned fowards we had.
I would like to focus on the last one. Having diffrent strikers each month provided no consistency or chemistry within the team. It also pushed the likes of Yeoman and Sullivan, who personally I thing have bags of petential, out of the squad. If we had one on loan for the whole season, like McCallum for a whole season or Marquis(who admittedly got recalled), there would have been much more of a bond. Take Goodwin. He was here for a while and started building confidence mid to late of his spell. He was no where near settled in the first month. Even, O'Connor, although he isn't a stiker, he has been outstanding, but we've had him for most of the season and he build a chemistry with the rest of the squad, particularly Pearce, whom for me is player of the year and O'Connor being Young player. We fast foward to the last few games. 3 wins out of 4. Out goes Stockly, not ours, out goes Hawley...aha Hawley... and in comes Yeoman. Bang bang, 2 goals. Coulthirst is different because he is from Spurs and wants to play and puts the effort in. If we can keep the few players I have mentioned above i believe we can do well in the conference!

Amen

Contract renewals and extensions

I was just wondering if we were to go down, who on our squad would stay with us and sign a new contract. Some of our players signed on to 2/3 year contracts last year, meaning the likes of Pearce(whom I think can play a lot higher) and unfotunatly Hawley, will have to stay with us unless they are sold or bought right? Some goes with Chappell and Downes. Bar Hawley, these playes would be great in the conference or we would get a good fee for them. Who else would stay on and who do you want to stay?

The Blame Game

What I struggle to understand is how around 18 months ago we were fighting for promotion, and within a blink of an eye, 2 seasons running we're battling against relegation. O'Kane was obviously a big loss, and then the likes of Howe and Jarvis. I agree totally with arcadia, not that long ago quite a few of you were sl*gging of Rene, wouldn't you just love him back right now? Craig, Yeoman and Thompson I though all broke through last year, take a look. Craig: can pass, can cross, shoots and can use both feet. Yeoman: Proved himself last year, can score, can shoot, can run fast, got good feet, better than Hawley probably, if it were me id get him back, better than a O'Brien who costs more right? Thompson: Unbelievably quick, powerful, not afraid to cross, runs at defenders, could be a real asset if we actually used him. Play the bloody loaned players! However admittedly they are young and inexperienced but still!

Goodbye Football League....Hello Conference

Hi new to the forum, there just needs to be a consistent line up, changing the formation to match the opponents isn't going to save us from relegation, we need to work on our own formations and line ups, this changing it around every game is not working!
