I think the negativity comes from a sense that we maybe sleepwalking towards a repeat of the Hargreaves appoiappointment.
I worshipped Hargreaves as a player but really didn't want him as manager as I feared the scenario that unfolded. I fear a Nicholson appointment (if it happens) would be on the grounds of a spurious feelgood factor.
This is Plainmoor not Disneyland.
Sean Joyce trumps Nicholson every time for me if we have to go down that route with Sean North as coach

Quigley and Lavelle-Moore
Wow
Quigley no better than Yeoman ???
At what - cricket, draughts?
You seriously can't mean as a centre forward?

Next Manager
The next appointment needs not only to be right but spectacularly "Cyril Knowlesesquely" right or we sleepwalk into oblivion.

Torquay United v Boreham Wood TUE-22nd
dreadful
The only thing of promise was the link up of Berry and Hurst going forward - which the players seemed reluctant to exploit in favour of aimless long balls for extended periods.
Worst substitution decision ever to remove marsh and replace with yeoman immediately after marsh thought he'd equalised - which killed the momentum that was building.
Briscoe is only of use as impact sub - he made things happen for five minutes when he came on but I can't forgive his physical condition - shameful!!!!
Worst of all was the lack of leadership - four seasons of struggle have begun to imbue a losing mentality.- I couldn't sense any urgency, desperation or passion - I want my midfield throwing itself about hungrily a la charlie oatway and Sean Joyce ...I want to see players busting a gut to get forward supporting the attacks... I see bodies in shirts who are accepting where we are - not good enough! The ckub is in turmoil granted but some home truths need saying because I feel the side is excusing it's performances because of the backdrop and the support - bless our hearts - are reluctant to get on their cases as we feel grateful we have a club to support and the players are doing the best they can - crap!!! Let's not patronise the players into relegation or worse!
Performances have dropped partly due to confidence but someone out there needs to start taking some bloody responsibility too!!

Cox Resigns
Taking my lad to his first ever game tomorrow. Grandad coming along too. I shall be explaining that, yes, it IS usually like this...get used to it and simply rejoice and celebrate those rare occasions when it's otherwise. Thus it is for us TUFC fans. The next Chelsea fan I come across crying into their beer because of their poor start to the season will be getting a long, cold, hard stare!

If my memory serves me right - that game was against Fulham. Alan Lee was a cracking forward - the much maligned Joe Quigley has something of the Alan Lee about him (I think!)
Was Kevin Keegan manager at the time?

Heartbreaking to read. Really respected and liked Martin Ling (as the players did also, clearly) having read this I think my respect for him has doubled.

Tha nks RussianGull. Delighted to hear your assessment of Quigley as I really rate him and have been surprised by how underwhelmed others have been.

that's a great point earned - Cox has to be admired for his organisational abilities and the way in which he's moulded a team out of a pack of liquorice allsorts!
I have great faith that not only can he set a side up but will also develop this group into a unit - all the signs are already there - but most of all I'm grateful!!! feels good to be a gull again!

Yeah - I also thought that article was way wide of the mark.
I also think there's been some unfair criticism of Quigley. Though heavy set, he has quick feet and if the pair learn not to play so far apart from each other there looks to be a useful little triangle forming between Quigley, Fisher and Briscoe.

First half I thought we looked great - especially Carmichael, Quigley and Hurst. The formation looked solid, the football quite entertaining and the side had teeth with Richards getting about, Exodus winning everything and Macdonald even bursting down the wing at one point. When we came out for the second half we looked disjointed and lost every second ball - the substitution fiasco made things worse though Fisher and Quigley didn't link up anything like as well as the first half.
As for huggable Huxtable... It irks me to say he had his hands tied on the substitution, the fourth official probably has to be questioned there... However, the clear pull back on Fisher and the trip on Richards were pretty unforgivable misses - particularly the first. You can't place your hands on the shoulder of a forward moving away from you towards goal with no one left to beat and get away with it these days ( unless Huxtable is reffing obviously...)
