Expectations for the forthcoming season in NLS

Anything less than promotion or a helluva good crack at it should result in the lot of them being booted off Berry Head.

If we are struggling after 12 games then Owers must go.

Quietly pleased with a few of the signings, but then again I was this time last year and when Owers was appointed. Shite management appointments has been our downfall over the last five years or so, lets hope Owers can step up, prove us wrong and redeem himself.

New kit on the way?

Just typed a huge rant and lost it all somehow. Not writing it all again. In short f**k the people running this club, got no respect or care for identity or heritage. That kit is an insult, an abomination and shits all over TUFC. We are and always should be yellow and blue. Nike can go screw themselves, couldnt even be bothered to do any various colours for their designs. :@

As for all yellow, BORING!!!!

Whoever signed off on that thing can bugger off as well. :slap:

I thought a few years back when they started adding random stupid white bits or white socks with yellow shorts and shirt, or god help me yellow and white stripes three times it was bad enough, but yellow and black, get f***ed. :Z

Christ at least season the only half decent thing was the kit, the shirt was a bit dodgy but as a whole it worked. Quite looked looking like Brazil even though we played like shite. :-/

Not amused :red:  :|

Thirty Years Ago Today

Never forget this game, disappointed like you wouldnt believe but to be honest not as much as a few weeks previously against Scunthorpe. I went to Vetch field for the fisrst leg of this which was my first ever away game. Bunked off school for the afternoon.
The pitch would have had the game called off these days. Cant remember why but Lee Sharpe didnt start this game. It was exciting and tense stuff but the goals were scrappy. I recorded the highlights on TSW next day and must have played them over and over again analysing what went wrong, as if it would change it.

Still to this day though the biggest disappointment I ever endured as a Gulls fan was the last day defeat at Orient in 98, nothing has come close to that.

Good luck to Exeter City

Dont see them as rivals any more, never hated them or Argyle unless we were playing them so good luck. Be nice to see at least a couple of Devon teams doing well

Who stays? Who goes?

Well, if Owers is staying he will go up slightly in my estimation if he shows some balls and shows the door to absolutely every player other than Dorel. Cant see Dorel staying though.

SHOULD WE MOVE TRAINING BASE AND GO PART TIME?

Well, all I can say is nothing I have seen, read or heard in the last few days has changed my mind. A fantastic post by Forever TUFC a bit further back did have me questioning and reined me back to 50/50 but now I am definitely 90/10 in favour of taking this radical action because something drastic needs to happen.

If we stay full time we are going to get the same old shit type of players and same old shit type of manager of the last few seasons, or its going to cost us a ridiculous amount of money. Until or if we are back up a league or two then part time players from a more affluent area is surely the way forward.

Like I said, would rather have some bloody good part timers at affordable cost than some shite full time players who are professional in name only.

Gary if you had any shred of decency, self respect and dignity then you would admit you arent up to it, you failed spectacularly and you would resign and f**k off right now.

So, f**k off Gary. :@

SHOULD WE MOVE TRAINING BASE AND GO PART TIME?

Well, so far nobodys really shown me why I'm wrong or changed my mind.

In fact after hearing Clarke Osbourne on the radio today I am further convinced that these measures are a sensible way forward until the club is sustainable or at least in a division that it should be. We have a league history, a decent ground a fanbase albeit fluctuating.

We pay over the odds in wages to over the hills or wannabes which make never gonna be's, just to drag them down to South Devon and still some cant see the benefits of the point. If we cant get decent players to come here lets go to them. I would rather relocate the training ground and get some bloody good part timers than pay stupid money to make shit so called full timers come here. Keep doing the same old things and you will keep getting the same results.

UNCLE CLARKES RADIO DEVON INTERVIEW

Coinciding with the article on BBC newspage, did anyone else hear the piece about the club on Radio Devon this morning. Gordon Sparkes actually seemed very smypathetic to our plight to be fair. Finally Clarke Osbourne granted the BBC a proper interview, there were interesting highlights played, I'm sure it said the full interview will be added to the BBC iplayer at two tomorrow.
There was also a good interview with Chris Fleet.

SHOULD WE MOVE TRAINING BASE AND GO PART TIME?

Some good points but no I dont expect to see the best players or a team that always wins, christ 31 years of watching TUFC you dont expect much at all. But we should want to see our team win every game, have some ambition and give ourselves the best chance of success. I would say the main thing at the moment is survival and plugging the holes that are haemorrhaging money and reducing debts. We havent been getting value for money from players in a long time, so if we can find an alternative way to do this then its worth exploring.

Again this community thing. Have the club and players really got involved and done that much, really? Again, how many of them have actually relocated here properly and spend most of the week here. There are other clubs that have taken these exact suggested measures to aid recruitment. Also a fair few of our supporters dont even live in the area anyway so why would they be too bothered about training location or keeping it local when they arent even local themselves. If the team is winning then will they really care where we train. As long as the club begins to do the right things and makes the community part of the TUFC family then who gives a toss if most of the players arent seen until matchdays.

When I was a kid TUFC used to train at clennon valley field and astroturf , I could look out our lounge window and watch them all morning, sometimes even strolling over and getting up close. That was awesome to me and a few friends at the time, great memories. But these are changing times, trying times and a unique situation for us, something big has to change. We need to do something drastically different.

You have to weigh up all the pros, cons, costs or savings, what gives at least some chance of success.

SHOULD WE MOVE TRAINING BASE AND GO PART TIME?

Gulliball -your first two paragraphs were pretty much exactly how I felt, I was incensed by the idea of training up country but its all about circumstances and we have to adapt, we need to do something drastic. If we had a winning team I dont think anybody would give a toss where we train. As I said before there are many supporters who apart from what happens on matchdays dont know sod all and arent bothered about sod all. They only know what the Herald tells them, which is guess what...

Midlandgull - I would dearly love to see us bring our own talent through again, it brings that bit more to joy of watching your team, there have been many memorable players come through the ranks but I cant ever see this happening . It makes it even more special to see some local lads given a go but for some reason we over look them, stories of never having scouts at local games are all too regular. Most of our apprentices/academy players down the years werent from the area. But thats another story.
Academies are expensive and out of our league but I wouldnt be against possibly picking up and trying to bring some young lads through each season in the old apprenticeship style if this could work. Thing is we arent going to be bringing any players through any time soon.

It would hopefully be a short term thing to be part time and train elsewhere, hopefully it would get us through these tough times just enough to start building a decent club again that can afford to pay its way.

How would setting up/renting/sharing a ground elsewhere be any more expensive than having one here. Especially if its like Seale Hayne where we spent a shit ton of money on it and still couldnt use it for months.

How many existing players are based in the south west, how many have been lured here by high wages, they obviously came all the way down here for more than they would have got elsewhere. It obviously wasnt for success or winning things. Many stories in recent seasons of our players who never actually moved down and couldnt get away quick enough every chance they got. Anyway, Im not worried about the exisisting players because I hope they all bugger off.

Zippygull - Staying full time and training in this area hasnt exactly worked when it comes to attracting decent players for a long time has it. Word has it there are better part timers than our so called full professionals but they live where the work and wages are I'm afraid.
