Boxing Day Fixture v Yeovil Town FC

Well I m still recovering from the Yeovil away fixture last year. Completed soaked and i have to say the thought at leaving at half time did go through my mind, however we did stay. That has to be one of the worst performances I ve seen over the last few years so this year i want to see us destroy Yeovil home and away.
Hopefully this bad weather which is forecasted holds off until after fulltime.
I feel extremely lucky to be able to attend this game so lets just hope we get a good result for all the Yellow Army.
Merry Xmas everyone.

National League Torquay United v Dagenham & Redbridge Plainmoor 15/12/20 7.45pm KO

To me it was certainly a game of two halves. The first half the Dagenham front 3 tore us apart. Our full backs Cameron and Buse couldnt deal with them. The main defensive job of a full back is to stop the cross and we failed several times. Warren was struggling with there centre forward and it was very poor defensively. We could not get a grip with the midfield and that affected our passing and it was just very very poor. I thought at the break we were lucky not to be 2 down.
I do have some sympathy with Buse, he s not a right back and he's had very little football so it was a gamble that didnt pay off. Cameron is far more familiar with playing in that role and when he watches the highlights i think he will be disappointed.
I couldnt see the sending off from over in the pop side however looking at the players reaction it appeared a correct one.
Then in the second half with the formation change it was like the charge of the light brigade, wave after wave of attack, how many corners did we have??I dont know if it was just bad luck or we are just missing that quality but all in all honesty we could have been playing until today and we wouldn't have scored.
So fair play to Dagenham who defended with everything.
GJ will reflect however the players never stopped trying and gave everything until the whistle.

National League Torquay United v Wrexham Saturday 5th Dec 2020 3pm KO

Firstly I would like to commend the club and its staff for doing a good job considering the situation.
After talking to some of the stewards this week they couldn't wait to get fans in. I thought they did a great showing people to there spots and assisting.
To the game, i thought we were excellent in the first half. Some of our play down our left with Whitfield was causing Wrexham so many problems. Considering the amount of chances we created we probably should have scored more.
I ve not seen Randell play before apart from on the streaming service, he is quality, his work on and off the ball is excellent.
Apart from the corner which they scored from(which i thought came off their player) they didnt create much. On a negative note that was poor to concede from that set piece.
It was great seeing and hearing the fans in the second half try and lift the team. We basically struggled to gain any control and Wrexham pressed forward. We defended very well and counter attacked when Randell was brought down by what looked like a stone wall penalty. All in all not a great second half and a deserved goal by CLE who i thought was excellent today. In fact i thought that was his best performance in a yellow shirt that Ive seen.
Considering we made changes at the back we defended well and i have to give credit to Jake Andrews. Im not his biggest fan, i know he has the ability but his workrate drives me up the wall usually, anyway he was excellent today and played the full 95 min.
Well done everybody great to be back.

National League | Torquay United Vs Boreham Wood | 14/11/20 | 3pm KO

I thought while we had 11 players on the park we were poor. As soon as Randell got sent off and we went down to 10 i thought we actually did well so I m happy with the point considering.
CLE and Nemane looked like our best chance of creating today. No complaints from me regarding the sending off, its was a naïve challenge for the 2nd booking. He will learn from that.

Emirates FA Cup 1st round | Torquay United v Crawley Town | 08/11/2020 12.45pm KO

I m obviously gutted that we have lost that game, however I m proud of our lads who gave it everything. It was one heck of a match full of everything, the reason why the FA Cup means so much to us supporters.
Of course we made mistakes and should have done better defending and managing the game at critical times.
I hope their keeper is not seriously injured and fair play to Crawley who were just too strong for us physically and mentally today. We showed today that we are not that far away from that standard of a league 2 team. This should give us the confidence in the league to make a serious challenge at promotion.

National League - Eastleigh FC v Torquay United - Tuesday, 6 October (7:45PM Kickoff)

What concerns me is the spine of our squad. Wright, Hall and Warren. Through pre season and the opening couple of games Wright doesn't look fit or able to show any impact. Hall is undoubtedly one of the first names on the team sheet however how many games are you going to get with him before he succumbs to an injury. Then there is Warren who struggled last season with injuries and who is injured currently.

Jamie Reid's Off......

Seems like a very long time ago I logged onto this forum, I forgot my password.

Very best of luck to Jamie, Im sure he wanted nothing more than to be playing league football with TUFC next season. Over the last couple of seasons I have seen a big improvement in his game and I hope he gets the opportunity he deserves.
He's not had an easy season with his injury and the injuries to other key players which has impacted on his game. I m sure there is something already lined up for him.

Its not going to be easy to replace Jamie with somebody who can make an instant positive impact with goals.

For me Grockle i expect 100% effort and at least trying, i can accept being beaten by a better team as long as we do our best and put the effort in. Too many times this season we have been bullied and out worked.

Apart from a handful of away games we just haven't performed away from home. I cant remember anybody posting that in defeat we had played well this season. Its about time we produced a performance for our travelling fans. Its about time some of our players stood up and at least give 100% effort.

Torquay United v Chorley 29/2/20

I don't think our set up is helping Jamie Reid. He needs to be running into space, playing off the shoulder and linking with the midfield quicker. We are very defensive in how we are setting up, 3 at the back with 2 wingbacks who are quite deep, then Asa playing just in front of them. Jamie is dropping deeper and deeper to collect the ball and linking in with the midfield. If any of the midfield picks up the ball and looks forward its not an easy pass forward and then you look left and right and the ball generally has to go back before going forward and by then the opposition are defensively set up.
I think GJ is concerned about how many goals we were leaking and is giving as much protection as he thinks they need. So what we are now seeing is that we are becoming defensively hard to break down however we are not creating the offensive opportunities.
So we are now not seeing expansive attacking football with 4-5-6 goals a game, to not conceding and with fewer scoring opportunities.

Torquay United v Chorley 29/2/20

Obviously a welcome 3 points and home victory. If we hadn't won this game today with the chances we missed and squandered I would have walked out of those gates and ripped my season ticket up.
I still cant believe how did Reid and Azeez missed those chances. Travelling home I listened to the Radio Devon commentary and it was laughable and they were laughing.
Firstly Chorley are dreadful, 90 odd of their fans who travelled down to watch their team are a credit to their club.
From my point of view Chorley are the worst side I ve seen at TQ1 this season. We started with the same formation as last week playing Whitfield and Longridge as wingbacks. I hate seeing Whitfield in that role. Jake in for Armani and Shaun in for Covolan, injured I guess.
We had all of the possession in the first half however we made the wrong decision or lacked composure in the final third.
Just before ht and we get a freekick and Cundy get his head on the ball and in it goes. Im delighted for him, he hit the post, bar and deserved that goal.
2nd half starts and same as last week we fall asleep for 5 min and give Chorley the possession however its difficult to describe the next 10 minutes of just how we managed to make such a mess of 2-3 opportunities when it was easier to score.
We do eventually score again with Reid(checkout my earlier post of goalscorers and prediction). I thought I was going to be correct.
No idea what Shaun was doing flapping at corners and crosses he was clearly never going to get. Never a dull moment with him.

Torquay United v Chorley 29/2/20

Heavy rain again overnight(Thursday) and more due overnight tonight. I noticed the floodlights on last night which i assume is the ground staff working on the pitch. Hopefully all will be ok.
Hoping for a really positive formation and really go at this Chorley team.
3-0 home win...Reid, Azeez and Cundy to score his first goal. Yes i know i m being optimistic.
