I think the defender was claiming he was bitten. He kept pointing to his arm as if there were marks on it.
Ah, cheers guys. Did see the defender waving his arm at the ref but I agree, I'd be surprised if Benyon had bitten him. Benyon was also pretty angry and had to be restrained so I assume it was six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Read it again TG, you haven't written what you think you've written.
Thanks Matt :)

Re: Torquay United v Mansfield Town - 19/10/13

Both teams were poor but thought we might well have gone on to win had Pearce not been sent off. Ref was awful and blew for everything - even, laughably, when Bodin pulled out of a challenge.

Bodin was a lot better today though in a central role and Craig made some good passes when he came on. Didn't recognise him at first: he's been out of favour for so long he's grown hair and a beard since I last saw him!

Relieved to hold on for the draw in the end but got a feeling this'll be one of the games we regret not winning later in the season.

PS - Anyone know what Benyon's problem was towards the end? Started a mini-brawl and lost us a free-kick in a good position!

In our current predicament that is not a bad result even though Mansfield were worse than York.
Erm...I'd have to disagree with you there mate! :na:

Re: OK, so what the hell is going on?

Is there no chance of Pearce being ready by Saturday? If not, I'd assume it'll be Cruise and either Hutchings next to him or possibly Tonge (with Manse going to RB)?

Andy, the youth team keeper Dan Lavercombe was on the bench against Rochdale so I assume he'll be promoted to the squad again against Wycombe.

Wouldn't read too much into FIFA ratings - they had Nico as 91/100 for jumping last year and Karl Baker rated higher than Yeoman...

Ben Harding

I think he's a bit anonymous and the game seems to pass him by when, as a central midfielder, Harding should be one of the players trying to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and influence proceedings. Against Portsmouth particularly, he seemed to shy away from the ball - even remaining rooted to the spot when the full-backs wanted an option at throw-ins - which meant Lathrope was forced to try and be the creative one.

The fans' ire does seem to be getting to him and affecting his confidence, so it might be a good idea to try and avoid getting on his back when he makes a mistake. That said, I'd rather Knill replaced him with Craig or Lathrope until his form picks up (surely he can't always be this bad?)

Nathan Craig

Some of my mates claim he had a big fall-out with Ling in training, but I don't believe that - he doesn't seem the type.

I suppose managers might feel he's not solid enough defensively to be play CM in League Two; perhaps that's why Ling shoved him onto the wing.

Ah, cheers. Didn't realise the Sounders' stadium was that big (CenturyLink Field, I think it is?). And yeah, Dempsey's an impressive signing - him, Obafemi Martins and Eddie Johnson is a pretty decent attack.

Thanks for the info about attendances and the MLS' expansion; will be interesting to see how the new franchises settle in when they start to join. I know New York are joining in 2015 - is that any link to the Cosmos, or did that project never amount to anything?

You're right about it being an exciting league to follow, and I think the trade system (worst teams get first draft pick) makes it less predictable than the Premier League, where you know who's going to be in the top 4 every year.

Don't know if you've seen it, but the MLS YouTube channel really is a credit to the league - they put highlights of every game on there, plus tactics dissection, previews, debate on controversial decisions etc, all free to watch. Not sure the Premier League even has a YouTube channel.

Which game's that then? I think the All-Star game the other week got about 35,000 so it would have to be a pretty major game to get double that. Open Cup final?

At the risk of taking this thread slightly off-topic, just wanted to echo this. Very impressed with the programme, especially the stylish front cover - wouldn't be out of place in the Championship or possibly even Premier League - and the interview with Nicholson. I'd also imagine Tim Herbert doesn't get too much assistance with it (financial or otherwise) so props to him.
