Season Ticket Renewal - Retained List
Dave Thomas in the Herald said it will probably be announced on Wednesday, although Hargreaves will have been holding talks with players today.Neal wrote:Is the retained list announced tomorrow?
Going by Nick's Squad Overview thread, out of those whose deals are now up I'd keep Rice, Lathrope and probably Yeoman. Wouldn't mind Poke, Labadie, Thompson and Bodin staying either.

Downes & Nico.
Odd that Downes wasn't even on the bench, with Hargreaves opting for a Cooper surely short on match fitness instead. I notice Downes did an interview with the Australian Daily Telegraph (http://m.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/au ... 6874983512) on Saturday morning in which the journalist said "[Downes] will line up for Torquay...against Scunthorpe", as if he was guaranteed to start.
The interview was also titled "the worst team in the English Football League", which, although clearly an epithet of the author's making, not of Downes', hardly breeds confidence. If I was a conspiracy theorist I might suggest Hargreaves saw that title and took offence...

Unless EA decide they want to pay for licensing rights for the Conference, then yes, it does mean Torquay will no longer be on the game. You can make them yourself in Creation Centre, but it's not the same.

Agreed. Rather him than Hargreaves to be honest - too much of a risk.

I don't know, maybe the chance for one last shot at management (and a geographically convenient one at that) may appeal?Southampton Gull wrote: I'd be happy to see him appointed but just can't see our budget being an attractive proposition to him.

I have heard that Sturrock will take over - from the same source who confirmed Knill's sacking before it was official.

He wasn't great today but I can't see why Knill refuses to move O'Connor to right-back in place of the woeful Tonge and put Pearce alongside Downes. O'Connor apparently played RB for Burton last year and he's decent on the ball, which Tonge quite clearly isn't.njgull wrote:Not to restart the why is O'Connor starting over Pearce debate but it seems O'Connor has been quite terrible today...

Banning Orders
Surprised it's that high but we do have a high mong contingent who I've noticed travelling in a pack on matchdays; I'd imagine they account for most of the bans.

Re: Torquay United v Portsmouth - 26/10/13
Thought the overall performance was much better, and McCallum looks a decent signing. He's great in the air, and Azeez is pretty handy too, but if we're going to play hoof ball, we need to play to their strengths - almost all of McCallum's flick-ons went harmlessly through to the keeper because there was no-one running onto them, and though Azeez won most of his aerial battles, he either headed it backwards or infield. Knill could also do with telling Azeez not to jump too early.
I was ready to suggest the decision to play Nicholson over Cruise was the wrong one but, surprisingly, he stood up pretty well to Pompey's winger in the first half. Sadly, though, he looked out of his depth in the second. Have to say Hawley was very good, had no right to win as many long balls as he did, and showed great control to bring down a couple of them.
