In view of this, I hesitate to point out that we will do incredibly well to beat Dover's points records in both of the last two seasons.dawlishmatt wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 16:40 Be very careful when posting stuff concerning Somerset Gull, he has special powers you now. He has been supporting Torquay for over 5 years before he was born!!!!!!!

I'm with you Portugull.
I thought he did ok when he had a short run out at the end of the Tuesday game (can't call it a match because that implies some balance between the opponents). His passing is a strength.
Re Brucie's criticism of Andrews, he seems to me to have lost weight during his lay off.

I beg to differ. We were unlucky not to be 2 - 0 up before they scored out of the blue at the end of the first half. We were indeed awful for 20 minutes or so in the second period but somehow got going again and should have won it as the ref failed to see a blatant foul in the box on Jarvis when De Silva put in a lovely cross.
We deserved more than a point over the whole game but the second half was painful to watch at times.

Who is Player A? We haven't got anybody by that name??????dawlishmatt wrote: ↑02 Nov 2022, 17:12 .... I'll explain the loan process in simple terms. Player A has recently signed a 2 year contract with Portsmouth and is paid £2,000 a week. Player A can't get into the Portsmouth first team and therefore agrees to join Torquay on a month's loan. Because Player A is still under contract with Portsmouth, he is paid in full £2,000 per week. Because Player A is now on loan to Torquay......

A New Club Record? A strange statistic.
I've now checked back and in 56-57 we successively ran up a 7 - 0 v Swindon, 7 - 1 v Norwich and 3 - 0 v Crystal Palace. That makes 17 in three matches and we followed that with a 4 - 2 win over Aldershot.
The same season we also beat Millwall 7 - 2 at home so that is three matches in which we ran in seven goals. On the other side of the coin we lost away to Millwall by the same score 2 - 7 and also lost 0 - 6 twice away, at Brighton and Ipswich.
As if we need reminding, those matches were all in the football league and just look at the opposition and where they are now except dear old Aldershot!

A New Club Record? A strange statistic.
I think he means the latter!Cheddargull wrote: ↑03 Nov 2022, 14:23 What question are you asking?
If it is does scoring 12 goals in 3 consecutive home games constitute a record then the answer is no.
Or is the question doing that while bottm of the table?
Without looking anything up I was at Plainmoor when Robin Stubbs scored five himself when we beat Newport 8 - 3 so add games around that and see what was what but we were nowhere near the bottom then. Going back a bit further we scored hatfuls at home regularly in the '50s but again we weren't at the bottom.

.......and, coming back down to earth, a few more days later we lost 5 - 1 at Villa Park in front of over 37,000 (luckily I wasn't there that time but I was just over a year previously and I prefer to remember that match).Plainmoor78 wrote: ↑01 Apr 2022, 20:02 2-1 with goals from Welsh and Tearse. Former Torquay United manager Frank O'Farrell has died at the age of 94.
Frank's funeral was at 10.00 am today. Apparently the cortege drove along Marnham Road for fans to pay their respects. I wasn't there but attended the requiem mass (at what is also my family's 'home' church) and I can report that Frank had a fitting send off.
For those interested, the reading was taken from St Paul to Romans C14 V7-12, the hymns were Oh Lord My God, The Lord's My Shepherd, Abide With Me and Sweet Sacrament Divine, the music for reflection was The Banks Of My Own Lovely Lee (there weren't many dry eyes during that ballad) and the recessional music was Danny Boy.
Apart from members of his own fellow congregation at Our Lady Help of Christians and St Denis and a number of fans, attendees included Robin Stubbs representing his first and the best team to play for the club, Bruce Rioch, who worked so closely with Frank in the '80's and managed one or two other teams, John Impey, who also managed Weymouth and TUFC, David Easton, former club secretary, David Thomas, Keith Perry, and Gordon Hines who all reported on our ups and downs in the local press and Simon Baker former board member.
The eulogy was given jointly by his younger brother Jim who gave us a humorous insight into his younger days and grandson Richard Coombes who spoke about Frank's generous nature in supporting others as well as his football career.
Rest in Peace Frank

Biggest traversty of the day, the so called crowd declaratiom of 3100, in the week we were told that Wrexham had sold out of their allocation of 1200 but just over 700 choose to turn up, I was sat in Bristows bench and that was the biggest crowd of the season by a country mile, did we give away a load of freebies again today ?, or are we entering into a period of creative accounting.

You easily beat me then as my maternal grandfather, George McBrearty (who played for Torquay United before the First World War!), started me off in the mid fifties, when I was six but I missed the two iconic matches in that era (Huddersfield and Leeds). My only claim to fame is that I am now the longest serving match day employee by a long way having started in 1966!

Who's that man?
I've just been watching the end of the Qatar grand prix and the cameras have twice highlighted a knot of Lewis Hamilton fans one of whom was sporting a slightly dated TUFC shirt with Sparkworld sponsorship logo!
