Re: MOTM - Oxford

1. Branston (awsome, scared them to death)
2. Benyon (never stopped running and closing down)
3. Wroe (back near his best)
4. Zebrowski (terrrified them before tactical withdrawl)
5. Bevan (Fantastic saves and was never in trouble)

Re: Oxford v Torquay

Echo those words from Dave. Great night allround for us. What makes it better is that I live near Bicester so have a big smile on my mug this morning and will be seeing my OUFC mates later on. Interesting conversation on the game coming up with them then :) JackFM sounded almost morose last night, anybody thought Oxford had been relegated. Truth is they will fare ok as they have the resources to be a good league 1 side in time so stick with Chris Wilder. Good to see you last night Dave!

Re: Oxford vs Torquay - Match Thread

That was probably the best and gutsyest Torquay away performance I have seen in years!! Down to 10 men and a goal up and OUFC coming at us in waves for the remaining 70 odd minutes or so but the tactical awareness of Paul Buckle completely cancelled out Chris Wilder's boys and you should have listened to JackFM's footy show afterwards on the radio. You'd have thought Oxford had just been relegated!! Yellow army in great voice (weren't we??) Is this a fire drill? as their fans streamed away near the end was just a classic. Great night out and only 16 miles to get home again. bragging rites are mine!!!!!! :) Even said "Hi " to Southamptongull too. :)

Sad news on the passing of John Benson

Just heard of the passing of John Benson. Very sad as I remember John playing in the same 60s team at Plainmoor as Robin Stubbs, Billy Kitchener, Micky Cave etc. Class act and a great manager later on. RIP John and thanks for the memories. :(

Mine too! See you there Chippygull (from Chipping Norton I presume) I reckon its a point apiece with a 1 - 1 but I will gladly eat my underpants if we get a win (well, not my underpants exactly). JackFM are trying to play OUFC up at the moment on the radio. Going early to get a decent parking slot.

Re: Why do you support Torquay?

They came for me back in 1969/70 on a Saturday night under lights and you had to queue at the mini stand end to get in. You could here the music from the PA system as the light grew stronger and the noise and atmosphere grew as you walked between the houses from Castle Circus where the bus from Newton Abbot dropped you off. A neighbour asked if I wanted to go with him and his step Dad and the rest is history. He went on to support the red & white scum up the road when he moved to Exeter. I was only 10 but was hooked for life and couldn't stop talking about it when I got home as my mother & father thought I had gone through a religious experience. Suppose it was a similar thing really. Anyway the game was against Shrewsbury Town in the old third division and Torquay won 2 - 0. Robin Stubbs, Micky Cave, Tony Scott, Bill Kitchener, Andy Donnelly in goal and a host of other heroes to enjoy! The old cowshed stood beside the mini stand then and old HOOO used to live in there. Who?? some older supporters must remember the old chain smoking manic OAP who used to shout HOOO!!! all match. He's long gone to the cowshed in the sky now. Why do I support Torquay? cause I got nowhere else to go!!! On the M5 passing the "Welcome to Gods Country (Devon) sign always makes me toot the car horn and shake my fist in joyous celebration much to the amusement of the wife who just cannot understand me.
Oxfordshire is home now as I settled here after coming out of the army but wherever I went Torquay United went with me. Got pictures of me in Nairobi, the Falklands and Germany with TUFC stuff on as I was always proud, and had the wee taken out of me, but there just isn't any other club in the world worth it is there? :)

Just read this and laughed out load while Annette is in the bathroom Jane  She wondered what I was laughing at and I told her Jane is up to things on the website. She says "Hi Jane" Anyway I can remember Saturday nights under the lights in the mini stand and the old cowshed as an 8 year old and the roar was definately there then. You used to queue for ages to get in and there was regularly 7 or 8,000 at games then. Personally I think the away support, when we are on the road is better than Plainmoor for noise and atmosphere, which is a bit of a shame, but maybe it will return when we are in the championship (dreaming again or is it the mind bending substances?? :O )

Re: JPT - Swindon vs Torquay

Pity i am tied up in Oxford tommorow night otherwise I would have been down the A420 for this one. I think it's a good possibility we will pull this off late in the game.
