Three Strikers

Stickingitin wrote: 15 Jan 2023, 19:11 Eifion Williams added an instant spark to the change from the 90's to the noughties which is part of the reason the club started to flourish, Leroy took over from great names Roy McFarland, Colin Lee and the brilliant Wes Saunders.
Eifion's record from much lower leagues was profound and he carried that forward with TUAFC and Hartlepool into the higher league than we find ourselves now.
Tony Lee is pretty much the same age as Eifion when he came to us, the managers that managed Eifion were pretty tough in everyone's book. Perhaps GJ needs a hard man in the backroom.
Williams was absolute pish you melon, I can still remember when he came back for Hartlepool against us and we gleefully chanted "Willo, Willo" as he fluffed chance after chance, just as he had for us. You just got told the stats and yet you try and say going to 25% of your record is "carrying it forward"?

He scored a hat trick on his debut, great, it was all downhill from there. Shocking player, no coincidence our actual success came when we got rid!

More Hard-To-Swallow Pills:

Being 22 stone means you are incredibly physically unwell. Overeating is an addiction that costs billions in your pockets as tax-payers, and it's killing people because we're all too wuss to take responsibility for our own health.

"How you look" is things you can't help, like your hair colour, or freckles. It's not "choosing to have a consistent calorie excess."

And sorry, before the "you don't know their situation", no I don't, but the VAST majority of overweight people don't have some underlying condition.

Not trying to be mean, I just get very frustrated when people rush to defend a way of life that is LITERALLY killing people who'd rather die than accept blame.

Gary Johnson, stick or twist?

Cheddargull wrote: 25 Nov 2022, 13:45 Alternatively look at the attendances of Woking, Barnet and Solihull. Those are compariable or worse than Torquay's and yet those clubs occupy the play off places.
GJ has **** up, like he eventually did at every other club he has managed. That said I don't think the club will sack him because he appears to enjoy a good working relationship with the owner.
All clubs near either London or Birmingham, meaning it's easy for players to jump between clubs and keep their career going. For someone to uproot their family to the arse end of nowhere (costing thousands, disrupting kids etc) for the pittance of a wage we can offer over ANY of these other clubs (where they can stay living in the major conurbations) is madness. Not to mention that with a 1 year contract, theres ZERO job security, so again why not just stay where you are so that if you get dropped there's options nearby?

Any footballer coming to us has to be DESPERATE and exhausted all their options elsewhere. Everyone asks why we can only get teenagers, not experienced pros, this is why - any experienced pros dont want to uproot their families, whereas young lads with no offers have nothing to lose, and probably dont mind the thought of some nights out with the small town girls. Think of it like any other job, not football manager, and you'll realise how unattractive a proposition Torquay is. It's not the Victorian era any more, no one is coming here for the seaside; all they'll find is drug addicts and charity shops.

GJ is working with the scraps who'll come to us, cos that's all we can get. The players aren't good enough, cos that's all we can get.

It's far more comforting to think "ooohh if we could just change this one thing everything would be okay " cos it's easier than realising how dire out situation is. Sorry to burst some rose-tinted "we're a massive club" bubbles.

Appreciate it mate, and for the record I use 'conspiracy' to mean 'point of view other than the commonly-accepted one', hence me saying your view of the Uncle Clark 'conspiracy' is bang on, sorry I didn't articulate this very well :) I'll definitely give those articles a read, even if they don't meet my threshold for 'no covid' I would not be surprised if there is some seriously shady s**t going on!

Laterel flow tests

Southampton Gull wrote: 21 Jun 2021, 10:24 Imagine just going ahead and taking one of these tests which is medically sterile/b] just because some person/b] thinks his highly-qualified fiancee knows best..... . .

Don't think a personal attack was really necessary there, maybe let's leave those at the door?

I'm sorry that you've lost your faith in experts, Southampton Gull. I'm sorry that the way the country is run and covid has been managed ultimately craps on so many people that they'd rather believe a conspiracy than the simple truth that it's a horrible virus, and we're bungling our way through. I won't go into everything her qualifications have entailed, but YES she is qualified to make judgements on covid, and YES she has seen people die OF covid (AND from covid aggravating pre-existing conditions).

I'm not gonna try and change your view, but for what it's worth I always read your posts on various topics with a very open mind. And it's true, there's times when we need to call out what we see as conspiracies/plots - your stance on Uncle Clarke has always been very persuasive, and I'm inclined to agree with you as to his ultimate intentions. But please just try and keep an open mind on covid. And ask yourself, is it more likely that a bunch of silver spooners are caught up in some incredibly well-ordhestratred global plot, or that they're just idiot humans like the rest of us and are cocking it up a bit?

Please just be careful, as much as you do grate on me with your "uniquely abrasive" ways sometimes, I get the sense from your posts that you're a decent chap underneath, and the bottom line is I just really don't wanna see you or your family (or any of the other myriad covid-doubters I see on here) get sick.

I'm not doing it cos the government say so, I'm doing it cos my fiancee, who is a doctor in the NHS says so. With her having seen these people dying, having another degree in human biosciences, and specialist qualification in infectious diseases, I'd say she's pretty qualified.

Huh, guess after all of the accusations of being "hysterical" or "absurd", I was right all along. I'll accept the apologies now. :|

desperado wrote: 02 Jan 2021, 17:38 Harsh comments particularly the ridiculous rant from Madgull. Thought we were seeing it out quite comfortably and going to get a 1-0 for a change. Yeovil weren't a threat , keeper error though . Neither keeper is up to the level required in my opinion. They both make me nervous. We were never going to outplay every team with our attacking football, a game we should have ground out a 1-0 though for sure.
Not ridiculous, I just believe in having a winning mentality, and that requires us to see performances like today for what they are. We have a massive target on our backs as league leaders, need to make sure days like this don't happen again. I'm sure GJ will be saying much the same as I said, cos that's what winners do.

Love that it's taken 20 minutes for the commentators to not dispute a foul given against Yeovil! Deluded doesn't even begin to cover it...

EDIT: Not overly impressed so far, need to get a grip on this game. Commentators back to disputing fouls again tho!

ALSO, can someone please tell the camera man that when the ball is down the far ends they should zoom IN and not OUT! =D

Taking The Knee

There's always an excuse for these cowardly snowflakes to be "offended" by anti-racism gestures, isn't there? Pretty sure that they changed it to taking a knee "in solidarity with the victims of racial injustice" because too many of the snowflakes kicked and screamed about not agreeing with the politics of the BLM movement. It's cool, though, I guess victims of racism can think "well at least those guys didn't need to feel they were supporting an organisation they didn't fully agree with" the next time they're getting shot/abused/attacked.

Man, I remember the days when people had the balls to say what they REALLY think instead of hiding behind all these phoney soundbites.
