Guardian Article On Torquay

toastkid wrote: 17 Apr 2017, 07:26 This Merse fella sounds like a right idiot. Going to a national newspaper and trying to stir things up to distract the team from the job in hand and try to turn the fans against them. Idiot.
In what way has this turned the fans against the team? Christ some of our fans are ridiculous. Have you not read the "clubs" response? Is that the kind of people you want running the place? Are you happy that we could be relegated to the Conference South today?

The article is actually perfectly timed in so much as it should, if we have enough fans who understand what is going on now, mean a very supportive crowd of the team, and a very anti the board atmosphere. Our chances of staying up are tiny, so it's better that there is some sort of protest against GI hole the season is still on and there are home games left to highlight it.

If the game today passes off with little protest, nothing for the media to latch on to, the the fan base will be guilty of letting GI get away with this, and it will be they who are the idiots, not Merse, who is trying against the odds to bring GI down.

Club Update

It's like the kind of note I get from my boss if he's in a bad mood, not the kind of message you'd expect someone who talks about engaging with fans to put on the website for keeping fans engaged.

I really thought these guys would be more business savvy.

The Nolan sisters often attended games in the 1980s when they were high in the charts as Anne was married to a TUFC player.
Summer show stars have often attended when performing in the bay and it is a long list.BUT cannot think of a Hollywood star apart from Vinnie Jones!
I assume everyone knows the film that included footage of a Torquay United game as Leanardo DiCaprio was also starring.
I know you shouldn't believe everything you read, and it appears you know Andy Parsons, whereas I don't, but there are several references to him being a Torquay fan. See link below. I'm certain he used to post on BTPIR.

I believe Andy Parsons, the comedian, is a Gull, and he used to post on one of the forums. I can't remember his username and think he's stopped posting now.

I don't know what the capacity of the family stand is, but you would certainly need a few hundred extras in there, and properly organised, and it would need to be sustained for the whole pre, during and post match to not just be a bit cringe.

You would need to get all of the central section of the pop, and quite a lot of older heads, in there for it to be effective.

If this is somehow organised correctly, for a specific match, I would probably make the effort to come down and join in.

But it will take a proper organised effort to work, not just a few people from the forum changing stands for one game

UCFB Wembley Student: Final Year Dissertation Participation Request.

I completed this, however I depending on what the survey is designed to find, I feel that the results might be misleading. Do the club use Twitter/Facebook etc? Yes. Does this mean they engage well with the fans? Umm, we don't even know who is in charge at the moment!!

I found myself answering yes to a lot of the questions, but yet fan engagement has gotten worse since the takeover, and that really is saying a lot!

Club Ownership

All well and good telling us to join the TUOSC, but I can't find a way of applying, that doesn't involve going to a game. As I live nearly 3 hours away, I don't get down very often. Doesn't seem very inclusive considering the well know fact that there are lots of Exiles around the country/world.

MOTM - Forest Green

Sparks
Blissett
Reid
Verma
McGintey

Tough one, thought Gerring and Fitzpatrick were excellent also. Moore made some great saves but equal amount of dodgy ones. I'd love to see the one with two terrible defensive clearances which led to a very weak K Moore header which B Moore somehow bumbled over the bar. It looked ridiculously easy to catch

Torquay United v Forest Green Rovers National League Mon 26 Dec 2016

I haven't been to Plainmoor for a while and wasn't going today, until 1230 I decided to drive down rather than go to Bristol rugby. Don't know why, but what a great decision. [br][br]Unbelievable game, some good football, FGR looked like probably the better footballing team, but we had as many chances, although poor finishing meant at half time I thought we were unlikely to get anything. 2 good chances before the first goal for Blissett had me certain we'd lose, and then all hell let loose.[br][br]I was impressed with the crowd, I really believe that a crowd can help win a game, and the crowd seemed to really get to Pinnock, Noble and Bennett. Kieffer is a Yellow, after he missed a great chance, was very funny.[br][br]We looked great going forward at times and solid at the back for 90 of the 96 minutes. Richards and Rowe-Turner have very poor distribution at times, and on another day could have gotten us in trouble a few times, but both did a good job defending/tackling and got better as the game went on.[br][br]Having seen that game, I'd be disappointed if Blissett goes, a real handful, should have had 3 or 4 but excellent none the same. Would I swap him for Moore? Not on today's performance, however I wasn't there for Moore's 5 goals and imagine overall Moore is the better player.[br][br]Great day out, if New Years Day is as good I'll be tempted to make the 2 hour drive more often.

New Owners - Soon?

lucy6lucy wrote:Until the takeover is done, and we then slate Phillips for selling us to A,B or G and I. At the moment I wonder why he refers us to keyboard wankers.
Hmm, to begin with today I didn't think it was GI/Masters, but I now think it may be. The club may not be able to say who it is, but they should be able to say who it isn't. Keyboard Wankers or not, assuming they are or become aware of the negative reaction to this statement, if it isn't GI/Masters, they need to come out and say it's not.

The only thing that makes me think it might not be is that I can't see what due diligence needs to be done by GI if the club is coming their way anyway?

MOTM - Lincoln

Reid- First half was excellent
GG- bar the penalty, didn't put a foot wrong
Ward- will be a good player in a year or so
Moore- bar one horrendous cock up, looks safe and secure on crosses and good quick thinking distribution (one kick aside)
LRT- someone commented he doesn't look a footballer, unfair I think, thought he defended well and one great goaline clearance

Torquay v Lincoln Sat. 3 Sept. (k.o. 5:30 pm) match thread

Maybe different perspective at the game and on the box, but the last 25 minutes we didn't keep nicking it, we rarely go one pass to one of our team. Up til then agree, was good, but after that was clear we needed a change. Still, I think we'll be fine this year, on the pitch at least

Why did he bring on 2 players with 3 seconds to go. Mental. First half good, beginning of second half ok, last 25 minutes, diabolical. I don't think we put 2 passes together. Livid that that fat prick Rhead got the winner, inevitable though.

Eunan O'Kane

Plainmoor78 wrote:The value of O'Kane's transfer deal rests on appearances and Leeds finishing position so it could be almost a year before the club find out how much they will get. The loan from GI has variously been been reported to be between £50,000 and £70,000 plus interest (it should be noted that unscrupulous business men have made profits from loss making football clubs in the past by lending them money at above market level interest rates). Thea Bristow made a £200,000 interest free loan to the club with no fixed repayment date. One would assume she will continue to receive a cut of transfer dealings until the 200 grand has been repayed.
And don't forget the money the club lost on the yellowfest debacle, around £35,000 I believe.
Surely with the MacDonald sale, this Eunan money (even if what you say is correct, we must have received a little bit up front), the WBA and Plymouth Friendly money, and potentially a couple of k for Bowman, even if all that is split with Thea, that must be enough to pay off GI and save any further interest payments? And whilst we might have made a loss on Yellowfest, wouldn't that loss have been paid up front, instead of monies owed after the event?

So surely the day to day running costs should be taken care of by normal revenue streams, the above mentioned incomes will have not been in the budget, and should take care of most of the debts, barring Thea, which is alledgedly interest free and not time bound, so until we sell another player, shouldn't that be sorted?
