Eunan Okane

With Leeds getting promoted any chance we will get some cash? I remember watching Eunan who was clearly too classy for us, and after turning down a move to Crawley that would have brought us some much needed money he went to Bournemouth and we negotiated a 15% sell on fee.
Bournemouth totally screwed us by sending him to Leeds for with a rumour that the fee was dependent on them getting to the prem, but we got no money at the time. Personally am happy that Bournemouth went down.

Anyone know?

Re: Paul buckle

IMO - Leroy was the best coach we ever had - the quality of football played was the best I have ever seen at Plainmoor, or ever likely to see again. However, he coached the best out of a team built by Roy McFarland, and for that reason Cyril should be rated as best in my era.

Difficult to look past Frank O'Farrell for all time though

Buckle was odious but unfortunately has to be in Top 5 for his considerable achievements - we'd still be in Conference now without him

Re: A Tribute to a Missing Fan

My Dad is also now diasabled following a stroke, so I am now also starting to get used to using the Disabled section at the ground.

I have to say I am also very impressed by the facilities in the Bench (thanks again Tony Jordan), and particularly the helpfulness of the TUFC staff who did anything they could to help.

However, I also agree with the need for a roof for that area so for anyone watching from TUFC please try to resolve this for our League 2 campaign next year

TUFC Away Support

http://www.football-league.co.uk/static ... 951,00.pdf

Apologies if this has been a thread before but the article in Express about our away support at York got me thinking about where we stood in the League - ie away fans as % of home gate.

Turns out we are first, and third in the Football League overall.

Apparently ferrarilover that is a fact. :na:

Re: Elliot Benyon?

The average League 2 player earns £747 per week or c £38k - fact. Does not include bonus payments.

Good strikers seem to earn about double what good defenders are on in most leagues.

So:

I reckon Benners is on about the going rate.

Mr Ellis was probably on £40k or so - so I can see why he would think £100k was a stretch

We should offer Southend to pay half his wages - good deal all round.

Separately - Given Rooney is on £250k a WEEK (and probably netto) then you can see why players want to move on and make the most of every opportunity they have, in what is a short career.

Also separately - PFA used to be a socialist organisation (in a good way of raising standards for all) but now seems to be centered on self-interested capitalism. Gordon Taylor actual wage is £940k.

Re: Five game assessment

We are solid enough but with little creativity.

Playing 4-1-4-1 home and away will see us comfortably mid table at year end, which ensures Lingy another year of employment.

Adding creative midfield player to replace Eunan would see us pushing for playoffs

Re: Torquay United v Plymouth Argyle, 8th September 2012.

First time I have seen us this season on Saturday.

We are solid and won't get dragged too far down the table - but without the creativity of O'Kane we will always struggle to break teams down playing 4-5-1 (or 4-1-4-1 if you prefer) which we did for most of the game. Looking a solid mid-table bet with outside chance of a play off spot I would say, and a draw was a fair result overall on the day.

When Danny Stevens is your most creative player (and he played well Saturday) that tells you something about the quality of the squad more generally. Also Howe seems to have accepted that one up front means he can walk around aimlessly without trying too hard.

Re: cheltenham town v torquay united - 14/2/2012

Wasn't at the game so can't comment but looking at cheltenham websites today they were not that impressed by us. General view of 'we scored from one attack, parked the bus, took 3 points we didn't deserve and won't go up automatically'

Anyone who ever wants to understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder should look at two sets of fans verdicts on watching the same game :~D

Re: Dave Caldwell

While having slightly alcoholically blurred memories of the game, I vividly remember getting my head kicked in by about fifteen lads in the town centre on the way back to railway station

a valuable lesson never to wear your colours away, even if you think they will be viewed sympathetically as a genteel west country lower league club who had the grace to lose

live and learn :)

Re: Dave Caldwell

Greatest player EVER

Best moments were the diving header against Bristol City in FA Cup from Lors cross, overhead kick as mentioned and my personal favourite, punching himself in the face in away leg against Swansea trying to get a penalty

How we didn't win that rain swept second leg at Plainmoor I'll never know..................

League One

I have us down currently as a good team that knows how to win, rather than a great team. In terms of squad depth, we don't have a lot and two key injuries would affect us significantly - pick any two from keeper, Ellis, Mansell, O'Kane and Howe

SO - the perennial TUFC question - IF we managed to go up (which clearly would be a miraculous achievement) would we realistically come straight back down again, and would that cause the death spiral we usually go through? ie loss of form and confidence, poor results, sack the manager and struggle to avoid the Conference in the following year?

or have i just been a TUFC supporter for too long!
